The Distance To The Hyades Cluster Based On Hubble Space Telescope Fine Guidance Sensor Parallaxes
Trigonometric parallax observations made with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) 3 of seven Hyades members in six fields of view have been analyzed along with their proper motions to determine the distance to the cluster. Knowledge of the convergent point and mean proper motion of the Hyades is critical to the derivation of the distance to the center of the cluster. Depending on the choice of the proper-motion system, the derived cluster center distance varies by 9%. Adopting a reference distance of 46.1 pc or m - M = 3.32, which is derived from the ground-based parallaxes in the General Catalogue of Trigonometric Stellar Parallaxes (1995 edition), the FK5/PPM proper-motion system yields a distance 4% larger, while the Hanson system yields a distance 2% smaller. The HST FGS parallaxes reported here yield either a 14% or 5% larger distance, depending on the choice of the proper-motion system. Orbital parallaxes (Torres et al.) yield an average distance 4% larger than the reference distance. The variation in the distance derived from the HST data illustrates the importance of the proper-motion system and the individual proper motions to the derivation of the distance to the Hyades center; therefore, a full utilization of the HST FGS parallaxes awaits the establishment of an accurate and consistent proper-motion system.NASA HST GTO, HF-1042.01-93A, HF-1046.01-93A, NAS526555Astronom
Parvovirus B19 infection associated with the production of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) and anticardiolipin antibody (aCL
We described four patients who had clinical diagnosis of erythema infectiosum and presented with skin rash, polyarthralgia, polyarthritis, and mild fever. Anti-parvovirus B19 IgM and IgG antibodies were found in all four patients and parvovirus B19 DNA was detected in three of the four patients by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in sera using standard methods. Anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) was positive in three of the four patients included three with anti-b2 glycoprotein I (b2GPI). The immunoglobulin isotype of aCL was found to be IgM. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) included three p-ANCA and one c-ANCA was detected in all four patients by indirect immuno¯uoresence (IIF). Both anti-proteinase 3 (PR3) and anti-myeloperoxidase (MPO) antibodies were found in two patients whom had polyarthritis for more than 6 months. Spatially resolved Spectro-photometry of M81: Age, Metallicity and Reddening Maps
In this paper, we present a multi-color photometric study of the nearby
spiral galaxy M81, using images obtained with the Beijing Astronomical
Observatory 60/90 cm Schmidt Telescope in 13 intermediate-band filters from
3800 to 10000{\AA}. The observations cover the whole area of M81 with a total
integration of 51 hours from February 1995 to February 1997. This provides a
multi-color map of M81 in pixels of 1\arcsec.7 \times 1\arcsec.7. Using
theoretical stellar population synthesis models, we demonstrate that some BATC
colors and color indices can be used to disentangle the age and metallicity
effect. We compare in detail the observed properties of M81 with the
predictions from population synthesis models and quantify the relative chemical
abundance, age and reddening distributions for different components of M81. We
find that the metallicity of M81 is about with no significant
difference over the whole galaxy. In contrast, an age gradient is found between
stellar populations of the central regions and of the bulge and disk regions of
M81: the stellar population in its central regions is older than 8 Gyr while
the disk stars are considerably younger, Gyr. We also give the
reddening distribution in M81. Some dust lanes are found in the galaxy bulge
region and the reddening in the outer disk is higher than that in the central

Refining value-at-risk estimates using a Bayesian Markov-switching GJR-GARCH copula-EVT model
In this paper, we propose a model for forecasting Value-at-Risk (VaR) using a Bayesian Markov-switching GJR-GARCH(1,1) model with skewed Student’s-t innovation, copula functions and extreme value theory. A Bayesian Markov-switching GJR-GARCH(1,1) model that identifies non-constant volatility over time and allows the GARCH parameters to vary over time following a Markov process, is combined with copula functions and EVT to formulate the Bayesian Markov-switching GJR-GARCH(1,1) copula-EVT VaR model, which is then used to forecast the level of risk on financial asset returns. We further propose a new method for threshold selection in EVT analysis, which we term the hybrid method. Empirical and back-testing results show that the proposed VaR models capture VaR reasonably well in periods of calm and in periods of crisis
No positive effect of autologous platelet gel after total knee arthroplasty: A double-blind randomized controlled trial: 102 patients with a 3-month follow-up
Background and purpose Activated platelets release a cocktail of growth factors, some of which are thought to stimulate repair. We investigated whether the use of autologous platelet gel (PG) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) would improve wound healing and knee function, and reduce blood loss and the use of analgesics. Patients and methods 102 patients undergoing TKA were randomly assigned to a PG group (n 50) or to a control (C) group (n 52). The primary analysis was based on 73 participants (PG: 32; C: 41) with comparison of postoperative wound scores, VAS, WOMAC, knee function, use of analgesics, and the pre- and postoperative hemoglobin values after a follow-up of 3 months. 29 participants were excluded due to insufficient data. Fiscal developments and financial stress : a threshold VAR analysis
We use a threshold VAR analysis to study the linkages between changes in the debt ratio, economic activity and financial stress within different financial regimes. We use quarterly data for the US, the UK, Germany and Italy, for the period 1980:4– 2014:1, encompassing macro, fiscal and financial variables, and use nonlinear impulse responses allowing for endogenous regime-switches in response to structural shocks. The results show that output reacts mostly positively to an increase in the debt ratio in both financial stress regimes; however, the differences in estimated multipliers across regimes are relatively small. Furthermore, a financial stress shock has a negative effect on output and worsens the fiscal situation. The large time-variation and the estimated nonlinear impulse responses suggest that the size of the fiscal multipliers was higher than average in the 2008–2009 crisis.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Analysis of urinary oligosaccharides in lysosomal storage disorders by capillary high-performance anion-exchange chromatography–mass spectrometry
Many lysosomal storage diseases are characterized by an increased urinary excretion of glycoconjugates and oligosaccharides that are characteristic for the underlying enzymatic defect. Here, we have used capillary high-performance anion-exchange chromatography (HPAEC) hyphenated to mass spectrometry to analyze free oligosaccharides from urine samples of patients suffering from the lysosomal storage disorders fucosidosis, α-mannosidosis, GM1-gangliosidosis, GM2-gangliosidosis, and sialidosis. Glycan fingerprints were registered, and the patterns of accumulated oligosaccharides were found to reflect the specific blockages of the catabolic pathway. Our analytical approach allowed structural analysis of the excreted oligosaccharides and revealed several previously unpublished oligosaccharides. In conclusion, using online coupling of HPAEC with mass spectrometric detection, our study provides characteristic urinary oligosaccharide fingerprints with diagnostic potential for lysosomal storage disorders
