The Influence of Japanese Anime Movies on the Consciousness of the Arab Child
This study aimed to analyze how Japanese anime films affect the awareness and behavior of Arab children by examining the values, symbols, and practices depicted in these films. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire was administered to 109 media professors in the United Arab Emirates, and the data was processed using a quantitative- descriptive research design. The study found that Japanese anime films establish different values, including sensory, fictional, moral, and cultural values, all of which can impact the Arab child. The moral significance was found to be 1.983, indicating a strong probability that the audiences imitation of what is seen through Japanese anime can reflect on their behavior, with a probability of adopting the same behavior seen in heroes and main characters at 1.96. Based on these findings, it is recommended that parents, teachers, and policymakers closely monitor the media content that children see and limit their exposure to messages that might encourage negative behavior. Producers of childrens programs should uphold social responsibility, focus on protecting Arab culture, and integrate successful international production models to preserve the identity and culture of Arab children. Additionally, it is essential for childrens media to maintain cultural values and identities while incorporating new and exciting visual techniques and effects. Specific recommendations could include monitoring childrens media consumption, advocating for more culturally sensitive programming, or promoting media literacy education for children and their families
Nematic cells with defect-patterned alignment layers
Using Monte Carlo simulations of the Lebwohl--Lasher model we study the
director ordering in a nematic cell where the top and bottom surfaces are
patterned with a lattice of point topological defects of lattice
spacing . We find that the nematic order depends crucially on the ratio of
the height of the cell to . When the system is very
well--ordered and the frustration induced by the lattice of defects is relieved
by a network of half--integer defect lines which emerge from the point defects
and hug the top and bottom surfaces of the cell. When the
system is disordered and the half--integer defect lines thread through the cell
joining point defects on the top and bottom surfaces. We present a simple
physical argument in terms of the length of the defect lines to explain these
results. To facilitate eventual comparison with experimental systems we also
simulate optical textures and study the switching behavior in the presence of
an electric field
Targeted scVEGF/(177)Lu radiopharmaceutical inhibits growth of metastases and can be effectively combined with chemotherapy
BACKGROUND: scVEGF/(177)Lu is a novel radiopharmaceutical targeted by recombinant single-chain (sc) derivative of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) that binds to and is internalized by vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR). scVEGF/(177)Lu potential as adjuvant and neoadjuvant anti-angiogenic therapy was assessed in metastatic and orthotopic mouse models of triple-negative breast cancer.
METHODS: Metastatic lesions in Balb/c mice were established by intracardiac injection of luciferase-expressing 4T1luc mouse breast carcinoma cells. Mice with metastatic lesions received single intravenous (i.v.) injection of well-tolerated dose of scVEGF/(177)Lu (7.4 MBq/mouse) at day 8 after 4T1luc cell injection. Primary orthotopic breast tumors in immunodeficient mice were established by injecting luciferase-expressing MDA231luc human breast carcinoma cells into mammary fat pad. Tumor-bearing mice were treated with single injections of scVEGF/(177)Lu (7.4 MBq/mouse, i.v), or liposomal doxorubicin (Doxil, 1 mg doxorubicin per kg, i.v.), or with a combination of Doxil and scVEGF/(177)Lu given at the same doses, but two hours apart. Cold scVEGF-targeting conjugate was included in controls and in Doxil alone group. The effects of treatments were defined by bioluminescent imaging (BLI), computed tomography (CT), computed microtomography (microCT), measurements of primary tumor growth, and immunohistochemical analysis.
RESULTS: In metastatic model, adjuvant treatment with scVEGF/(177)Lu decreased overall metastatic burden and improved survival. In orthotopic primary tumor model, a combination of Doxil and scVEGF/(177)Lu was more efficient in tumor growth inhibition than each treatment alone. scVEGF/(177)Lu treatment decreased immunostaining for VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and pro-tumorigenic M2-type macrophage marker CD206.
CONCLUSIONS: Selective targeting of VEGFR with well-tolerated doses of scVEGF/(177)Lu is effective in metastatic and primary breast cancer models and can be combined with chemotherapy. As high level of VEGFR expression is a common feature in a variety of cancers, targeted delivery of (177)Lu for specific receptor-mediated uptake warrants further exploration
Waves in the North Sea: powering our future?
Ocean waves contain huge amounts of energy which almost haven’t been exploited up to now. Along the West European coastline the wave power resource is varying between 30 and 70kW/m crest length (Thorpe, 1999). These huge amounts of wave power increase the potential energy capture on the one hand but hamper installation on theother hand. Furthermore the survivability of conversion systems could be in danger in these severe wave conditions.The wave climate in the North Sea is less aggressive due to the sheltering effect of Great Britain. The wave power resource and potential areas for installation of a farm of Wave Energy Converters (WECs) in the North Sea will be discussed during the presentation.Wave energy is a renewable energy type that is becoming more and more important. Many conversion principles have been invented and are currently being developed, tested and improved. Research on power optimization, structural design, etc. is going on while interest of private investors is increasing.Although many concepts have been invented, only a limited number of systems have already been built in prototype size and have experienced real sea trials. Even fewer have reached a commercial stage. Among them is the Pelamis the converter which is probably most ahead of the others. This system, sometimes called ‘sea snake’ consists of four hinging cylinders that produce electricity via a hydraulic intermediate stage. The Portuguese consortium Enersis will shortly install three units of 750kW each in front of the Portuguese coast. Some other systems that have experienced sea trials - mostly at scaled size - are Wave Dragon, FO³, Wave Star, AquaBuOY, OPT Power Buoy, Pico power plant, Limpet device,… Some of these systems will be treated more in detail during the presentation

We study the propagation of radio waves through a medium possessing density
fluctuations that are elongated along the ambient magnetic field and described
