Cooling of radiative quantum-dot excitons by terahertz radiation: A spin-resolved Monte Carlo carrier dynamics model

We have developed a theoretical model to analyze the anomalous cooling of radiative quantum dot (QD) excitons by THz radiation reported by Yusa et al [Proc. 24th ICPS, 1083 (1998)]. We have made three-dimensional (3D) modeling of the strain and the piezoelectric field and calculated the 3D density of states of strain induced quantum dots. On the basis of this analysis we have developed a spin dependent Monte Carlo model, which describes the carrier dynamics in QD's when the intraband relaxation is modulated by THz radiation. We show that THz radiation causes resonance transfer of holes from dark to radiative states in strain-induced QD's. The transition includes a spatial transfer of holes from the piezoelectric potential mimima to the deformation potential minimum. This phenomenon strongly enhances the QD ground state luminescence at the expense of the luminescence from higher states. Our model also reproduces the delayed flash of QD ground state luminescence, activated by THz radiation even ∼1\sim1 s after the carrier generation. Our simulations suggest a more general possibility to cool the radiative exciton subsystem in optoelectronic devices.Comment: 18 pages, 1 table, 8 figures, submitted to Physical Review B v2: major conceptual changes. Full text link
The Resolution of the UN General Assembly in 2000 has mandated to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, environment, education, health and human rights. In national law, the recognition of the existence of traditional people with customary rights can be found in Article 18 B paragraph (2) and Article 28 paragraph (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia of 1945. This study discusses the rights that grow and thrive in indigenous communities in Bali which are associated with the life of society and state. Also the responsiveness or recognition of Indonesia to the presence of the state constitution means the rights of indigenous peoples has grown and developed in Bali and empowerment efforts need to be done for the rights of indigenous peoples has grown and developed in Bali to be able to be a force in the life of society and state. Studies on the identification of the rights of the traditional lifestyle that are recognized in the community as well as prospective empowered in the state of life in Indonesia can be classified as a normative legal research conducted on the relevant legal materials. Legal materials and supporting information that has been gathered up with regard to research on the identification and analysis of the rights of traditional communities in Indonesian Studies State Laws (A Study of Traditional Balinese Community) Firstly the description and interpretation was carried out, or interpretation of the normative propositions found to be further systematized in accordance with discussion on the subject matter of this study. The results of this analysis are three techniques to evaluate and analyze its content according to the given arguments and conclusions of law to get a top issue in this study. States have an obligation to give recognition to indigenous peoples based on the constitution. Responsiveness or the constitutional recognition of the existence of the rights of indigenous peoples has grown and developed in Bali are envisaged in the constitution, namely Article 18B paragraph (2) and Article 28 paragraph (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia of 1945. The constitutional mandate must be obeyed by state officials to regulate the recognition and respect for indigenous peoples in some form of legislation. While the empowerment of local people has been recognized by constitution, yet much remain to be done. The rights of indigenous peoples which has grown and developed in Bali should be legally enforced in the life of society and state

Thermal Transport Imaging in the Quantum Hall Edge Channel

Research focused on heat transport in the quantum Hall (QH) edge channel has successfully addressed fundamental theoretical questions surrounding the QH physics. However, the picture of the edge channel is complicated by the phenomenon of energy dissipation out of the edge, and theories treating this dissipation are lacking. More experimental data is also needed to determine the coupling mechanism by which energy leaves the edge channel. We developed a method to map the heat transport in the QH edge to study the dissipation of heat. We locally heated the QH edge and locally detected the temperature increase while continuously varying the distance between heater and thermometer. We thereby obtained the thermal decay length of the edge state, which we found to depend on magnetic field strength

The purpose of this research is to analyse the behavior of single piles under axial compressive load, as far as settlement, load transfer mechanism, and static loading test are concerned. It includes a literary review of two elastic theory-based methods, the Poulos and Davis method and the Randolph and Wroth method, as well as axisymmetric elastic modelling using the finite element-based program Optum G2. The result given by each method are organized in dimensionless charts of settlement and proportion of load transferred to the pile base in terms of the pile slenderness ratio and soil inhomogeneity and the load in terms of the pile settlement and compared amongst each other. This reseacrh also studies axisymmetric elastoplastic modelling in Optum G2, considering the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. The case study of the simulation static load test performed on test pile. The soil parameters are got of some project in Riau Province. Althought limited information is available regarding the geological and the geotechnical conditions of the site, the overall results were quite satisfactor

Nanometre-scale nuclear-spin device for quantum information processing

    Get PDF
We have developed semiconductor point contact devices in which nuclear spins in a nanoscale region are coherently controlled by all-electrical methods. Different from the standard nuclear-magnetic resonance technique, the longitudinal magnetization of nuclear spins is directly detected by measuring resistance, resulting in ultra-sensitive detection of the microscopic quantity of nuclear spins. All possible coherent oscillations have been successfully demonstrated between two levels from four nuclear spin states of I = 3/2 nuclei. Quantum information processing is discussed based on two fictitious qubits of an I = 3/2 system and methods are described for performing arbitrary logical gates both on one and two qubits. A scheme for quantum state tomography based on Mz-detection is also proposed. As the starting point of quantum manipulations, we have experimentally prepared the effective pure states for the I = 3/2 nuclear spin system.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure

Self-consistent Coulomb effects and charge distribution of quantum dot arrays

This paper considers the self-consistent Coulomb interaction within arrays of self-assembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) which are embedded in a pn structure. Strong emphasis is being put on the statistical occupation of the electronic QD states which has to be solved self-consistently with the actual three-dimensional potential distribution. A model which is based on a Green's function formalism including screening effects is used to calculate the interaction of QD carriers within an array of QDs, where screening due to the inhomogeneous bulk charge distribution is taken into acount. We apply our model to simulate capacitance-voltage (CV) characteristics of a pn structure with embedded QDs. Different size distributions of QDs and ensembles of spatially perodic and randomly distributed arrays of QDs are investigated.Comment: submitted to pr
