Multilayer flat electrical cable
Flat electrical cable is lightweight, flexible over wide temperature range, withstands continuous exposure to high levels of nuclear radiation, and can carry high currents with minimum of temperature rise. Its magnetic cleanliness is equal to or better than twisted pair of wires, and it can be terminated in conventional electrical connector
Spatial Corrections of ROSAT HRI Observations
X-ray observations with the ROSAT High Resolution Imager (HRI) often have
spatial smearing on the order of 10 arcsec (Morse 1994). This degradation of
the intrinsic resolution of the instrument (5 arcsec) can be attributed to
errors in the aspect solution associated with the wobble of the space craft or
with the reacquisition of the guide stars. We have developed a set of IRAF/PROS
and MIDAS/EXSAS routines to minimize these effects. Our procedure attempts to
isolate aspect errors that are repeated through each cycle of the wobble. The
method assigns a 'wobble phase' to each event based on the 402 second period of
the ROSAT wobble. The observation is grouped into a number of phase bins and a
centroid is calculated for each sub-image. The corrected HRI event list is
reconstructed by adding the sub-images which have been shifted to a common
source position. This method has shown approx. 30% reduction of the full width
half maximum (FWHM) of an X-ray observation of the radio galaxy 3C 120.

Iso-singlet Down Quark Mixing And CP Violation Experiments
We confront the new physics models with extra iso-singlet down quarks in the
new CP violation experimental era with and
measurements, events, and
limits. The closeness of the new experimental results to the standard
model theory requires us to include full SM amplitudes in the analysis. In
models allowing mixing to a new isosinglet down quark, as in E, flavor
changing neutral currents are induced that allow a mediated contribution
to mixing and which bring in new phases. In ,
, and plots we still find much
larger regions in the four down quark model than in the SM, reaching down to
, , , and down to zero, all at 1. We elucidate
the nature of the cancellation in an order four down quark mixing
matrix element which satisfies the experiments and reduces the number of
independent angles and phases. We also evaluate tests of unitarity for the
CKM submatrix.Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures, REVTeX

Toward an expert project management system
The purpose of the research effort is to prescribe a generic reusable shell that any project office can install and customize for the purposes of advising, guiding, and supporting project managers in that office. The prescribed shell is intended to provide both: a component that generates prescriptive guidance for project planning and monitoring activities, and an analogy (intuition) component that generates descriptive insights of previous experience of successful project managers. The latter component is especially significant in that it has the potential to: retrieve insights, not just data, and provide a vehicle for expert PMs to easily transcribe their current experiences in the course of each new project managed
Synthesis of 16-Oxygenated steroids
Thesis (M.A.)--Boston UniversitySince the development of methods for studying the tissue metabolism of testosterone (8), many investigators attempted to isolate and identify the catabolic products of testosterone degradation by various tissues. Reported isolation of 16 alpha-hydroxylated compound (14) opened a new pathway of investigation. Various investigators (5, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24) have since either reported the isolation of other C-16 oxygenated compounds, or have speculated their presence. In view of these observations, it was felt that an attempt should be made to prepare 16-oxygenated derivatives of 17-ketosteroids with the thought that some of the polar compounds isolated in the metabolic studies of Wotiz, Wotiz and Lemon, and Ofner might be steroids substituted at this position. Various syntheses for substitution at the c-16 position have been developed, particularly by Huffman and Lott (26, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37). Recently, Leeds et al. presented a method for the introduction of a C-16 ketone or hydroxyl group (1). This method was the one followed in this work
Toward Realism in Human Performance Simulation
This chapter focuses on challenges to improving the realism of socially intelligent agents and attempts to reflect the state of the art in human behavior modeling with particular attention to the impact of values, emotion, and physiology/stress upon individual and group decision-making. The goal is to help those interested in constructing more realistic software agents for use in human performance simulations in both training and analysis settings. The first two sections offer an assessment of the state of the practice and of the need to make better use of human performance moderator functions (PMFs) published in the behavioral literature. The third section pursues this goal by providing an illustrative framework for integrating existing PMF theories and models, such as those on physiology and stress, cognitive and emotive processes, individual differences, and group and crowd behavior, among others. The fourth section presents asymmetric warfare and civil unrest case studies to examine some of the concerns affecting implementation of PMFs such as verification, validation, and interoperability with existing simulators, artificial life emulators, and artificial intelligence components. The final section of this chapter concludes with lessons learned and with some challenges if the field is to reach a greater level of maturity
Systems Social Seience: A Design Inquiry Approach for Stabilization and Reconstruction of Social Systems
This paper explores novel approaches under the design inquiry paradigm that promise to help organizations better understand and solve socio-technical dilemmas. Design inquiry is contrasted with scientific inquiry (Section 1). Section 2 presents a meso-scale model of models methodology for design inquiry that synthesizes systems science, agent modeling and simulation, knowledge management architectures, and domain theories and knowledge. The goal is to focus computational science on exploring underlying mechanisms (white box modeling) and to support reflective theorizing and discourse to explain social dilemmas and potential resolutions. Section 3 then describes an evolving agent modeling and simulation testbed while Section 4 offers two gameworld applications that implement this approach and that serve as an example of the new types of instruments useful for systems social science. The conclusions wrapup by reviewing lessons learned about 10 criteria that have guided this research
