    A novel approach to non-commutative gauge theory

    We propose a field theoretical model defined on non-commutative space-time with non-constant non-commutativity parameter Θ(x)\Theta(x), which satisfies two main requirements: it is gauge invariant and reproduces in the commutative limit, Θ→0\Theta\to 0, the standard U(1)U(1) gauge theory. We work in the slowly varying field approximation where higher derivatives terms in the star commutator are neglected and the latter is approximated by the Poisson bracket, −i[f,g]⋆≈{f,g}-i[f,g]_\star\approx\{f,g\}. We derive an explicit expression for both the NC deformation of Abelian gauge transformations which close the algebra [δf,δg]A=δ{f,g}A[\delta_f,\delta_g]A=\delta_{\{f,g\}}A, and the NC field strength F{\cal F}, covariant under these transformations, δfF={F,f}\delta_f {\cal F}=\{{\cal F},f\}. NC Chern-Simons equations are equivalent to the requirement that the NC field strength, F{\cal F}, should vanish identically. Such equations are non-Lagrangian. The NC deformation of Yang-Mills theory is obtained from the gauge invariant action, S=∫F2S=\int {\cal F}^2. As guiding example, the case of su(2)su(2)-like non-commutativity, corresponding to rotationally invariant NC space, is worked out in detail.Comment: 16 pages, no figures. Minor correction

    Alcune indagini non invasive sono state eseguite a supporto delle prove di verifica delle colonne prospicienti il Corridoio della Grande Caccia della Villa Romana del Casale, a Piazza Armerina. Scopo del progetto di indagine è la localizzazione di eventuali perni metallici e anomalie interne nelle dieci colonne che separano il Corridoio della Grande Caccia dal Peristilio e valutare il livello di portanza delle singole colonne. A tale scopo sono state eseguite indagini georadar e soniche. Le indagini georadar sono state effettuate utilizzando un apparecchiatura munita di antenna con frequenza centrale di 1000 MHz in modalità monostatica, per ogni colonna, sono stati acquisiti 4 profili verticali nel fusto, speculari a due a due, e due profili orizzontali: uno base del capitello e l’altro alla base del capitello. Operando con apparecchiatura sonica con sonde di 20 kHz, sono state effettuate circa un centinaio di acquisizione, allo scopo di ricostruire, per ciascuna colonna, un diagramma di distribuzione delle velocità sonica (Tomografia) e indagare sull’integrità del materiale costituente

    New technologies can represent, for some aspects, both a problem and a precious resource. As we concerns, in tourism sector, ICT can help in managing and promoting destinations in a better way than in the past, especially in those cases where problems linked with the management of tourist flows and the need to manage a sustainable development exists. Monitoring tourism impact at the destination is a fundamental issue in order to respect the right pressure and to avoid negative effects in the destination and with the residents. There are several devices available and useful for different needs, then almost each kind of monitoring and analysis can be supported by the right tools. This knowledge should encourage local responsible to implement regular and meticulous surveys and analysis to manage the impact of tourism pressure and to respect the optimal carrying capacity of the site

    Demutualization and its Problems

    Over the last three decades, cooperatives experienced acceleration of institutional innovation with the introduction of many variations to the reference model. It is certainly not surprising that coops changed their organizational structure over time to face the challenges of world. In the United States and in Canada they are commonly referred to as new generation cooperatives, in Italy and Spain as cooperative groups or network of cooperatives. One of the main feature of these new organizational structures is their attempt to take some advantages of the investor oriented firms (above all in capital raising activities) while retaining the mutual/cooperative status. Many of these changes have been undertaken to facilitate the growth of the enterprises both in domestic market and abroad. Due to the wideness of the phenomenon we could name the last three decades the age of hybridization. However in some cases the search for new structures went further and assumed the aspect of conversion of mutuals into stock firms. Our paper will deal with this latter part of the story, focusing on cooperatives that preferred conversion or demutualization to hybridization. The paper describes the chronology and the geography of demutualization and analyses the forces that drove it over the last decades. The main conclusion is that demutualization provided solutions for real problems, as hybridization did, however the choice between these two options seems to have been more a matter of ideology than of efficiency

    Markers of acute rejection and graft acceptance in liver transplantation.

    The evaluation of the immunosuppression state in liver transplanted patients is crucial for a correct post-transplant management and a major step towards the personalisation of the immunosuppressive therapy. However, current immunological monitoring after liver transplantation relies mainly on clinical judgment and on immunosuppressive drug levels, without a proper assessment of the real suppression of the immunological system. Various markers have been studied in an attempt to identify a specific indicator of graft rejection and graft acceptance after liver transplantation. Considering acute rejection, the most studied markers are pro-inflammatory and immunoregulatory cytokines and other proteins related to inflammation. However there is considerable overlap with other conditions, and only few of them have been validated. Standard liver tests cannot be used as markers of graft rejection due to their low sensitivity and specificity and the weak correlation with the severity of histopathological findings. Several studies have been performed to identify biomarkers of tolerance in liver transplanted patients. Most of them are based on the analysis of peripheral blood samples and on the use of transcriptional profiling techniques. Amongst these, NK cell-related molecules seem to be the most valid marker of graft acceptance, whereas the role CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ T cells has still to be properly defined

    Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of an adjuvant therapy (CoQ10 in its watersoluble form and vitamin A) in supporting voice rehabilitation in a large group of patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD). Study Design: Twelve-week, double-blind, randomized, controlled, three-period crossover pilot study. The primary endpoint was the change in the Dysphonia Severity Index (DSI) over the 12-week study period. Secondary endpoints were the changes in the subcomponents of DSI, including MPT, F0-high, I-low, and jitter. Exploratory endpoints were the changes in the Shimmer and in Voice Handicap Index (VHI). Methods: Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to two counter-balanced arms. Group A (ADJ-PLA) patients were administered QTer 300 mg and Vit A acetate 500.000 Ul/g 1 mg twice daily for a 4-week intervention period, followed by a 4-week period of wash-out, and then were submitted to a last 4-week period of placebo. Patients in Group B (PLB-ADJ) were given the treatment period in reverse order. Both groups received a 45-min voice therapy in a group format once a day for 4 weeks during the first and the second active periods. The therapy was held during the wash-out period. Results: The analysis of main time effect indicated a trend toward recovery of vocal function regardless of group assignment. A significant time by group effect was found on DSI [F = 3.4 (2.5, 80.5), p = 0.03], F0-high [F = 4.5 (2.6, 82.9), p = 0.008] and Shimmer [F = 3.6 (1.5, 46.9), p = 0.048], under CoQ10 and Vit A treatment, with a small effect size. There was no significant time by group effect on the other study measures, namely MPT, I-low, VHI. Conclusions: A trend toward recovery of vocal function was observed in all the patients, likely due to voice rehabilitation. The improvement of DSI was greater under CoQ10 and Vitamin treatment, indicating a more pronounced improvement of vocal quality under adjuvant therapy.     Twisting all the way: from Classical Mechanics to Quantum Fields

    We discuss the effects that a noncommutative geometry induced by a Drinfeld twist has on physical theories. We systematically deform all products and symmetries of the theory. We discuss noncommutative classical mechanics, in particular its deformed Poisson bracket and hence time evolution and symmetries. The twisting is then extended to classical fields, and then to the main interest of this work: quantum fields. This leads to a geometric formulation of quantization on noncommutative spacetime, i.e. we establish a noncommutative correspondence principle from *-Poisson brackets to *-commutators.
