We report the discovery of the resolved disk around HD 131835 and present the analysis and modeling of its thermal emission. HD 131835 is a ~15 Myr A2 star in the Scorpius-Centaurus OB association at a distance of 122.7 +16.2 -12.8 parsec. The extended disk has been detected to ~1.5" (200 AU) at 11.7 {\mu}m and 18.3 {\mu}m with T-ReCS on Gemini South. The disk is inclined at an angle of ~75{\deg} with the position angle of ~61{\deg}. The flux of HD 131835 system is 49.3+-7.6 mJy and 84+-45 mJy at 11.7 {\mu}m and 18.3 {\mu}m respectively. A model with three grain populations gives a satisfactory fit to both the spectral energy distribution and the images simultaneously. This best-fit model is composed of a hot continuous power-law disk and two rings. We characterized the grain temperature profile and found that the grains in all three populations are emitting at temperatures higher than blackbodies. In particular, the grains in the continuous disk are unusually warm; even when considering small graphite particles as the composition.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for Publication in Ap

Background: In India, caesarean section rate is rising, so the impact of prophylactic injection of tranexamic acid in decreasing blood loss during caesarean section would be more beneficial in terms of having minimal blood loss intra operatively and post operatively and thereby decreasing maternal morbidity. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of prophylactic tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss during and after caesarean section. Methods: A randomized controlled trial among 200 term women with singleton pregnancy for a period of 2 years was carried out. They were randomized by computer generated numbers into two groups: study group-100 women receiving prophylactic tranexamic acid women and control group-100 women receiving placebo. Results: The blood loss during caesarean section was less in the tranexamic acid group compared to the placebo group. Similarly blood loss measured 6hrs after caesarean section was less in the tranexamic acid group compared to placebo group. 20-40min before the time of incision was the ideal time gap for administering the injection tranexamic acid for its optimum efficacy. Tranexamic acid group had lesser requirement of uterotonic when compared to placebo, but need for blood transfusion was similar in both the groups. Greater fall in the hemoglobin and haematocrit occurred in placebo group compared to tranexamic acid group. No changes in the post-operative vitals or side effects were seen in the tranexamic acid group. Even no change in birth weight and Apgar scores was seen in neonates of tranexamic acid group. Conclusions: Injection tranexamic acid is the, antifibrinolytic agent that can be used for prophylactic administration before caesarean section for decreasing blood loss during surgery

Background: To prevent post-partum hemorrhage the concept of active management of third stage of labour has been proposed which decreases the blood loss by 40-68%. The best preventive strategy is active management of the third stage of labour. The objective of the study was to study risk factors of postpartum hemorrhage and indications for caesarean section. Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out among 100 women at term for a period of one year. Pregnant women who are at term i.e. at 38-39 weeks of gestation were included in the study. Detailed history, clinical examination and investigations were carried out. Results: The mean pre pregnancy BMI in study group was 22.4±3.96. The majority of patients recruited were primiparous. Socio-demographic data shows that there was no statistical difference in place of residence, occupation and level of literacy between two groups. The prevalence of anemia among women at term was found to be 43%. The most common obstetric high risk factor was gestational diabetes mellitus in 10% followed by gestational hypertension in (6%). 71% of women underwent the emergency LSCS. The most common indication for LSCS was fetal distress in 29% of cases followed by mal-presentation in 12% of cases. Conclusions: The prevalence of anemia among women at term was found to be 43%. The different medical high risk factors were human immunodeficiency virus positive (asymptomatic diagnosed during pregnancy), Hepatitis B antigen positive, cardiovascular risk, hypothyroidism, epilepsy observed in the groups. Other high risk factors included asthma, Crohns disease, and systemic sclerosis

Sync-DRAW: Automatic GIF Generation using Deep Recurrent Attentive Architectures

    Get PDF
This paper introduces a novel approach for generating GIFs called Synchronized Deep Recurrent Attentive Writer (Sync-DRAW). Sync-DRAW employs a Recurrent Variational Autoencoder (R-VAE) and an attention mechanism in a hierarchical manner to create a temporally dependent sequence of frames that are gradually formed over time. The attention mechanism in Sync-DRAW attends to each individual frame of the GIF in sychronization, while the R-VAE learns a latent distribution for the entire GIF at the global level. We studied the performance of our Sync-DRAW network on the Bouncing MNIST GIFs Dataset and also, the newly available TGIF dataset. Experiments have suggested that Sync-DRAW is efficient in learning the spatial and temporal information of the GIFs and generates frames where objects have high structural integrity. Moreover, we also demonstrate that Sync-DRAW can be extended to even generate GIFs automatically given just text captions

Objective. To describe the clinical characteristics and radiological findings in two patients with subacute encephalitis associated with elevated serum voltage-gated potassium channel antibody (VGKCAb) and antithyroperoxidase (TPO) antibody. Case Reports. Case 1: 63-year-old woman was admitted for altered mental status and possible seizure activity. MRI brain showed hyperintensity in the bilateral hippocampal areas. She was positive for VGKCAb and anti-TPO antibodies. She was treated with steroids, IVIG, plasma exchange and azathioprine. After 8 months, she had marked improvement in her memory and seizures. Case 2: 61-year-old woman was admitted for video EEG monitoring of unclassified seizure and cognitive function decline. MRI of the brain showed mild hyperintensity in bilateral hippocampal areas and significant atrophy in the frontotemporal lesion. Anti-TPO antibody and VGKCAb were positive. She was treated with steroids, plasma exchange and azathioprine. After 9 months, she had marked improvement in her memory and seizures. Conclusion. Autoimmune subacute encephalitis appears to be an underdiagnosed entity. It is important to screen patients with subacute encephalitis for anti-TPO antibody and VGKCAb, particularly in the presence of seizures. Immunosuppressive therapy appears to be effective in treating this entity

Intrinsically Disordered C-Terminal Tails of \u3cem\u3eE. coli\u3c/em\u3e Single-Stranded DNA Binding Protein Regulate Cooperative Binding to Single-Stranded DNA

The homotetrameric Escherichia coli single-stranded DNA binding protein (SSB) plays a central role in DNA replication, repair and recombination. E. coli SSB can bind to long single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) in multiple binding modes using all four subunits [(SSB)65 mode] or only two subunits [(SSB)35 binding mode], with the binding mode preference regulated by salt concentration and SSB binding density. These binding modes display very different ssDNA binding properties with the (SSB)35 mode displaying highly cooperative binding to ssDNA. SSB tetramers also bind an array of partner proteins, recruiting them to their sites of action. This is achieved through interactions with the last 9 amino acids (acidic tip) of the intrinsically disordered linkers (IDLs) within the four C-terminal tails connected to the ssDNA binding domains. Here, we show that the amino acid composition and length of the IDL affects the ssDNA binding mode preferences of SSB protein. Surprisingly, the number of IDLs and the lengths of individual IDLs together with the acidic tip contribute to highly cooperative binding in the (SSB)35 binding mode. Hydrodynamic studies and atomistic simulations suggest that the E. coli SSB IDLs show a preference for forming an ensemble of globular conformations, whereas the IDL from Plasmodium falciparum SSB forms an ensemble of more extended random coils. The more globular conformations correlate with cooperative binding

Background: The study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Mifepristone for induction of labour and in improving the Bishop score at term. The study also aimed to assess induction delivery interval and maternal and fetal outcomes with Mifepristone. Methods: The study was carried out on 200 pregnant females with 2 study groups of 100 each. Group A females received tablet Mifepristone 400mg and   Group B females received placebo. Results: Time interval between induction to onset of labour was 28 hours 54 min and 42 hours 18 min respectively in cases and control group. Mean induction delivery interval was 35 hours 38 min and 49 hours 52 minutes respectively in cases and control group. LSCS rate was less with Mifepristone group. Conclusions: This study showed that treatment with Mifepristone is a simple and effective method of inducing labour in women with term pregnancy with unripe cervix. The use of Mifepristone provides an interesting new alternative to classic uterotonic agents when induction is necessary. The potential advantage of Mifepristone over PGs or oxytocin requires further evaluation in scarred uterus
