Suzaku observations of the low surface brightness cluster A76
Context: We present results of Suzaku observations of a nearby galaxy cluster
A76 at z=0.0395. This cluster is characterized by extremely low X-ray surface
brightness and is hereafter referred to as the LSB cluster. Aims: To understand
the nature and thermodynamic evolution of the LSB cluster by studying the
physical properties of the hot intracluster medium in A76. Methods: We
conducted two-pointed Suzaku observations of A76 and examined the global gas
properties of the cluster by XIS spectral analysis. We also performed
deprojection analysis of annular spectra and derived radial profiles of gas
temperature, density and entropy out to approximately 850 kpc (~ 0.6 r_200) and
560 kpc (~0.4 r_200) in A76 East and A76 West, respectively. Results: The
measured global temperature and metal abundance are approximately 3.3 keV and
0.24 solar, respectively. From the deprojection analysis, the entropy profile
is found to be flat with respect to radius. The entropy within the central
region (r < 0.2r_200) is exceptionally high (~400 keV cm^2). This phenomenon is
not readily explained by either gravitational heating or preheating. The X-ray
morphology is clumped and irregular, and the electron density is extremely low
(1e-4 -- 1e-3 cm^-3) for the observed high temperature, suggesting that A76 is
in the early phase of cluster formation and the gas compression due to
gravitational potential confinement is lagging behind the gas heating.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, A&A accepte

Parameter Mismatches and Perfect Anticipating Synchronization in bi-directionally coupled external cavity laser diodes
We study perfect chaos synchronization between two bi-directionally coupled
external cavity semiconductor lasers and demonstrate for the first time that
mismatches in laser photon decay rates can explain the experimentally observed
anticipating time in synchronization.Comment: Latex 4 page
Reconfiguration of list edge-colorings in a graph
11th International Symposium, WADS 2009, Banff, Canada, August 21-23, 2009. ProceedingsWe study the problem of reconfiguring one list edge-coloring of a graph into another list edge-coloring by changing one edge color at a time, while at all times maintaining a list edge-coloring, given a list of allowed colors for each edge. First we show that this problem is PSPACE-complete, even for planar graphs of maximum degree 3 and just six colors. Then we consider the problem restricted to trees. We show that any list edge-coloring can be transformed into any other under the sufficient condition that the number of allowed colors for each edge is strictly larger than the degrees of both its endpoints. This sufficient condition is best possible in some sense. Our proof yields a polynomial-time algorithm that finds a transformation between two given list edge-colorings of a tree with n vertices using O(n [superscript 2]) recolor steps. This worst-case bound is tight: we give an infinite family of instances on paths that satisfy our sufficient condition and whose reconfiguration requires Ω(n [superscript 2]) recolor steps
Serial Assessment of Vessel Interactions After Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation in Unprotected Distal Left Main Coronary Artery Disease Using Frequency-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography
ObjectivesThis study sought to assess stent-vessel interactions after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation in unprotected left main coronary artery (ULM) by frequency-domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT).BackgroundPercutaneous coronary intervention using DES in ULM has been increasingly performed in routine practice. Recently, FD-OCT assessments of DES-vessel interactions have been used as surrogates for DES safety; however, there are no FD-OCT studies in ULM.MethodsWe prospectively enrolled 33 consecutive patients with ULM disease treated with sirolimus- (n = 11) and everolimus-eluting stents (n = 22). FD-OCT assessments were performed post-percutaneous coronary intervention and at 9-month follow-up. Three different segments of ULM were compared: distal (DIS), bifurcation (BIF), and ostial-body (BODY). The primary endpoints were percentages of uncovered and malapposed struts at 9-month follow-up, and the secondary endpoint was neointimal hyperplasia area.ResultsWe analyzed 25,873 stent struts. Significant differences were demonstrated for percentage of uncovered struts (3.4%, 11.7%, and 18.7%, respectively for DIS, BIF, and BODY; p < 0.05 for all the comparisons). Malapposition was also more common in BODY (5.3%) than in DIS (0.6%) and BIF (2.0%) segments (p < 0.05 for BODY vs. DIS, and BODY vs. BIF). Equivalent neointimal hyperplasia areas were demonstrated in all segments. Acute malapposition rates led to different patterns of DES-vessel interactions at 9-month follow-up.ConclusionsDistinct patterns of DES-vessel interactions were demonstrated in different segments of ULM. Acute stent strut malapposition affects these findings
The Kahler Cone as Cosmic Censor
M-theory effects prevent five-dimensional domain-wall and black-hole
solutions from developing curvature singularities. While so far this analysis
was performed for particular models, we now present a model-independent proof
that these solutions do not have naked singularities as long as the Kahler
moduli take values inside the extended Kahler cone. As a by-product we obtain
information on the regularity of the Kahler-cone metric at boundaries of the
Kahler cone and derive relations between the geometry of moduli space and
space-time.Comment: 21 pages, 1 figure. Improved discussion of the relation between
Kahler moduli and five-dimensional scalars. No changes in the conclusion
Elastic and vibrational properties of alpha and beta-PbO
The structure, electronic and dynamic properties of the two layered alpha
(litharge) and beta (massicot) phases of PbO have been studied by density
functional methods. The role of London dispersion interactions as leading
component of the total interaction energy between layers has been addressed by
using the Grimme's approach, in which new parameters for Pb and O atoms have
been developed. Both gradient corrected and hybrid functionals have been
adopted using Gaussian-type basis sets of polarized triple zeta quality for O
atoms and small core pseudo-potential for the Pb atoms. Basis set superposition
error (BSSE) has been accounted for by the Boys-Bernardi correction to compute
the interlayer separation. Cross check with calculations adopting plane waves
that are BSSE free have also been performed for both structures and vibrational
frequencies. With the new set of proposed Grimme's type parameters structures
and dynamical parameters for both PbO phases are in good agreement with
experimental data.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
