Anomalous metamagnetic-like transition in a FeRh/FePt interface occurring at T120 K in the field-cooled-cooling curves for low magnetic fields
We report on the magnetic properties of a special configuration of a FeRh
thin film. An anomalous behavior on the magnetisation vs. temperature was
observed when low magnetic fields are applied in the plane of a thin layer of
FeRh deposited on ordered FePt. The anomalous effect resembles a
metamagnetic transition and occur only in the field-cooled-cooling
magnetisation curve at temperatures near 120 K in samples without any heat
treatment.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

Multilinear Wavelets: A Statistical Shape Space for Human Faces
We present a statistical model for D human faces in varying expression,
which decomposes the surface of the face using a wavelet transform, and learns
many localized, decorrelated multilinear models on the resulting coefficients.
Using this model we are able to reconstruct faces from noisy and occluded D
face scans, and facial motion sequences. Accurate reconstruction of face shape
is important for applications such as tele-presence and gaming. The localized
and multi-scale nature of our model allows for recovery of fine-scale detail
while retaining robustness to severe noise and occlusion, and is
computationally efficient and scalable. We validate these properties
experimentally on challenging data in the form of static scans and motion
sequences. We show that in comparison to a global multilinear model, our model
better preserves fine detail and is computationally faster, while in comparison
to a localized PCA model, our model better handles variation in expression, is
faster, and allows us to fix identity parameters for a given subject.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures; accepted to ECCV 201
su(1,1) Algebraic approach of the Dirac equation with Coulomb-type scalar and vector potentials in D + 1 dimensions
We study the Dirac equation with Coulomb-type vector and scalar potentials in
D + 1 dimensions from an su(1, 1) algebraic approach. The generators of this
algebra are constructed by using the Schr\"odinger factorization. The theory of
unitary representations for the su(1, 1) Lie algebra allows us to obtain the
energy spectrum and the supersymmetric ground state. For the cases where there
exists either scalar or vector potential our results are reduced to those
obtained by analytical techniques
Sperm Hyperactivation and Capacitation Induced By Light Stimuli in Cryopreserved Semen
In mammals, such as rabbits, there are some factors involved in possible fertilization, from complex changes in the membrane of the sperm to obstruction or non-existent of vas deferens, which creates problems in the number and quality of sperm. In this work, we report the effects of rabbit sperm motility and capacitation of cryopreserved semen samples under light stimuli. The sperm velocities were correlated with the percentage of capacitated and non-capacitated sperm seen with a fluorescent dye. Consequently, we analyzed the specific correlations between irradiation times, supplied energy, and fertility parameters.

Prediction statistical model for soil organic carbon mapping in crop areas using the Landsat/OLI sensor.
Abstract: The quantification of soil organic carbon (SOC) is essential to agriculture and sustainable use of the land. However, there are difficulties to estimate it in large areas due to high cost of soil sample extraction, and laboratory preparations. There are approaches that may facilitate the estimation of SOC, such as the use of satellite imagery and the application of statistical models based on the spectral bands of the satellite under study. In July of 2017, this study proposed a prediction statistical model from optical-orbital data of the series Landsat, OLI sensor for estimating SOC content
Black hole solutions in Euler-Heisenberg theory
We construct static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions in the
Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg (EEH) system which is considered as an effective
action of a superstring theory. We considered electrically charged,
magnetically charged and dyon solutions. We can solve analytically for the
magnetically charged case. We find that they have some remarkable properties
about causality and black hole thermodynamics depending on the coupling
constant of the EH theory and , though they have central singularity as
in the Schwarzschild black hole.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figures, figures corrected and some comments adde
Nonextensive Thermostatistics and the H-Theorem
The kinetic foundations of Tsallis' nonextensive thermostatistics are
investigated through Boltzmann's transport equation approach. Our analysis
follows from a nonextensive generalization of the ``molecular chaos
hypothesis". For , the -transport equation satisfies an -theorem
based on Tsallis entropy. It is also proved that the collisional equilibrium is
given by Tsallis' -nonextensive velocity distribution.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, corrected some typo
Evidence of Hantavirus Infection among Bats in Brazil
Citation: Sabino-Santos, G., Maia, F. G. M., Vieira, T. M., Muylaert, R. D., Lima, S. M., Goncalves, C. B., . . . Figueiredo, L. T. M. (2015). Evidence of Hantavirus Infection among Bats in Brazil. American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 93(2), 404-406. doi:10.4269/ajtmh.15-0032Hantaviruses are zoonotic viruses harbored by rodents, bats, and shrews. At present, only rodent-borne hantaviruses are associated with severe illness in humans. New species of hantaviruses have been recently identified in bats and shrews greatly expanding the potential reservoirs and ranges of these viruses. Brazil has one of the highest incidences of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome in South America, hence it is critical to know what is the prevalence of hantaviruses in Brazil. Although much is known about rodent reservoirs, little is known regarding bats. We captured 270 bats from February 2012 to April 2014. Serum was screened for the presence of antibodies against a recombinant nucleoprotein (rN) of Araraquara virus (ARAQV). The prevalence of antibody to hantavirus was 9/53 with an overall seroprevalence of 17%. Previous studies have shown only insectivorous bats to harbor hantavirus; however, in our study, of the nine seropositive bats, five were frugivorous, one was carnivorous, and three were sanguivorous phyllostomid bats
