Relationship in a Medium-risk Population

By means of an accurate immunoenzymatic assay, the prevalence was studied of antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV) in three different populations: 74 patients affected with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) on preexisting cirrhosis, 82 patients with liver cirrhosis but with no apparent neoplasm, and 70 control subjects, hospitalized for various conditions, of internal medicine or geriatric interest. 70.2% of HCC patients exhibited anti-HBC antibodies, versus 47.5% of cirrhotic subjects with no tumor and 7.1% of controls. Such results suggest the possible role of HCV in the etiopathogenesis of HCC, and its possible synergy with other agents-e.g., hepatitis B virus, alcohol--in causing chronically injured hepatocytes to become neoplastic

Changes in Gut Microbiota Composition after Bariatric Surgery: a New Balance to Decode

Background: Recently, the link between obesity and gut microbiota has become a focus for research. This study shed some light on the modification of postoperative gut microbial composition after bariatric surgery. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study on healthy lean subjects and patients who underwent bariatric surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) was carried out. Anthropometric and metabolic data, smoking, food preferences data, and stool samples were collected from lean subjects and from obese patients before and 3 and 6\ua0months after surgery (T0, T3, and T6, respectively). Results: We collected stool samples from 25 obese patients before surgery and 3 and 6\ua0months thereafter and from 25 normal weight patients. After Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, Yokenella regensburgei (p < 0.05), Fusobacterium varium (p < 0.05), Veillonella dispar/atypica (p < 0.05), and Streptococcus australis/gordonii (p < 0.05) were transiently identified in the gut at T3. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients had a permanent increase in Akkermansia muciniphila (p < 0.05), which is associated with healthy metabolism, both at T3 and T6. There were no significant changes in gut microbiota in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy patients. Conclusions: In our study, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass induced major microbial differences and greater weight loss compared with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Analyzing the microbiota composition, a proliferation of potential pathogens and the onset of beneficial bacteria was observed. The effects of these bacteria on human health are still far from clear. Understanding the mechanisms of action of these bacteria could be the keystone in developing new therapeutic strategies for obesity

A mensuração do produto interno bruto do complexo da bovinocultura de corte no Brasil.

Resumo: O produto interno bruto (PIB) do agronegócio teve participação de 22,08% no PIB nacional, no último ano do período de 2005 a 2017. No setor, a maior participação foi dada pelo agregado de agrosserviços que teve, em média, 53,02% do total do PIB do agronegócio. Essa presença ativa mostra que, a jusante, há vínculos de grande relevância a serem considerados. Os valores encontrados para o PIB da bovinocultura de corte apresentam uma participação deste no PIB do agronegócio de 15,98%, também primordialmente representados pelos agrosserviços, que tiveram aumento acumulado de 25,39% no período. O método da matriz insumo-produto permitiu que fossem observadas todas as taxas de crescimento e queda dos agregados selecionados da bovinocultura de corte (insumos, agropecuária, agroindústria e agrosserviços), em que a principal queda é atribuída à agropecuária, com um percentual acumulado de 11,25%. Com os achados, é possível determinar a dependência da bovinocultura de corte, do agronegócio e da economia nacional de cada agregado e, assim, projetar cenários e melhores condutas gerenciais. Abstract: The agribusiness gross domestic product (GDP) accounted for 22.08% of the national GDP, in the last year of the period from 2005 to 2017. Within the sector, the largest share was given by the agriservices aggregate, which averaged 53.02% of the total agribusiness GDP. This active presence shows that there are downstream links of great relevance to be considered. The values found for the beef cattle GDP show 15.98% of participation in the agribusiness GDP, also primarily represented by agriservices that had an accumulated increase of 25.39% in the period. The input-output matrix method allowed of the observation of all growth and fall rates of selected aggregates of beef cattle (inputs, agribusiness, agro-industry, and agriservices), in which the main decrease is attributed to the agribusiness with an accumulated percentage of 11.25% . With these findings, it is possible to determine the dependence of beef cattle, agribusiness, and the national economy of each household and, thereby, design scenarios and better management behaviors.Título em inglês: The measurement of the gross domestic product of the beef cattle complex in Brazil

Cenários futuros para a produção de bovinos de corte no Brasil.

O objetivo deste artigo é analisar o futuro da produção de bovinos de corte no Brasil em comparação com evidências já encontradas na literatura. Para atingir tal proposta, é utilizado o documento ?O futuro da cadeia produtiva da carne bovina brasileira: uma visão para 2040? como base documental para a busca de indicativos de ocorrência destas tendências no país. Foi realizada uma análise documental na publicação técnica de visão para 2040 para o elo de produção da cadeia de produtiva e uma pesquisa em bases internacionais em busca de pesquisas com evidências empíricas no contexto brasileiro. Os resultados mostraram que é possível evidenciar que todos os temas gerais sobre o uso de terras, gestão, estrutura produtiva, manejo, meio ambiente e comercialização de animais, já foram abordados em pesquisas, assim como a maioria de seus temas específicos. Com exceção da orientação para tecnologia no campo, que ainda é um desafio para grande parte dos pecuaristas devido ao seu custo elevado de implementação. Todos os outros subtemas que foram correlacionados com as evidências, estão indo ao encontro das tendências apresentadas no documento sobre o futuro da produção brasileira de bovinos de corte. A grande relevância do documento da Embrapa é apresentar as tendências que oferecem aos tomadores de decisões, possíveis cenários para formulação de estratégias que o tornem mais competitivo no mercado de carne bovina

A cadeia produtiva da carne bovina brasileira e a segurança alimentar: um olhar para os insumos produtivos.

The alignment of food production systems with the trends and demands of the world population plays an important global role. This study aims to discuss the convergence of trends related to the Brazilian beef cattle supply chain from a food security perspective. Therefore, it includes important reports on the future of this supply chain and its input production, taking on a qualitative approach to consider trends in animal health, genetics, nutrition, forage, and farm machinery in terms of the development of Brazilian agriculture and the future of food and agribusiness. From a managerial point of view, it was possible to provide information capable of leading to a sustainable understanding. Thus, a content analysis of the documents was carried out, coding them through the Sustainable Development Goals and categorizing them by taking into account the 2030 Agenda?s five Ps (people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnerships). Along this line, the discussion highlights the themes of poverty and climate change, emphasizing them with regard to the categorization social aspects ? the P of people). Future trends will require a workforce prepared to deal with the additional limitations that can arise with the use of new technologies as productivity increases

Mensuração da sustentabilidade na bovinocultura de corte: desafios para o consumo e produção responsáveis da Agenda 2030.

Os sistemas produtivos da bovinocultura de corte estão diante de complexos desafios globais. Um deles refere-se ao atendimento dos Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável, que incentiva os sistemas a se adaptarem aos padrões produtivos sustentáveis propostos pela ciência, pelos consumidores e demais partes interessadas. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste artigo é identificar na literatura um conjunto de indicadores que contribuam para o alcance da sustentabilidade no sistema produtivo da bovinocultura de corte. Para atingir tal proposta, optou-se pela realização de uma revisão integrativa da literatura. Os resultados mostraram a existência de indicadores de desempenho, indicadores relacionados aos animais, bem como outros estruturais e econômicos. Contudo, não foram identificados indicadores voltados para contribuir no alcance da sustentabilidade dos sistemas produtivos específicos da bovinocultura de corte. A relevância deste estudo se dá pelo reconhecimento de uma lacuna metodológica, que representa uma medida pertinente para enfrentar os desafios cada vez maiores identificados nos sistemas produtivos globais. Essas informações fornecem estratégias que auxiliam o progresso de avaliações e análises pertinentes para arear questões envoltas no desenvolvimento de práticas cotidianas mais sustentáveis e de políticas públicas mais eficazes.
