CMS dashboard task monitoring: A user-centric monitoring view

    Get PDF
We are now in a phase change of the CMS experiment where people are turning more intensely to physics analysis and away from construction. This brings a lot of challenging issues with respect to monitoring of the user analysis. The physicists must be able to monitor the execution status, application and grid-level messages of their tasks that may run at any site within the CMS Virtual Organisation. The CMS Dashboard Task Monitoring project provides this information towards individual analysis users by collecting and exposing a user-centric set of information regarding submitted tasks including reason of failure, distribution by site and over time, consumed time and efficiency. The development was user-driven with physicists invited to test the prototype in order to assemble further requirements and identify weaknesses with the application

    Get PDF
Purpose: This article aims to identify the role of corporate universities opened by large holdings for their employees’ effective training as a part of the company’s mission implementation and ensuring business financial stability strategy. Design/Methodology/Approach: To implement flexible project management of the companies’ financial stability, a concept of corporate university development is presented on the grounds of a competency-based approach. Main emphasis of the competency-based approach is aimed at the labor functions performance and establishment of a correlation between competence and labor efficiency of employees. Findings: Methods and techniques of corporate education are aimed at creating human capital development optimal model, ensuring the company’s financial stability. Practical Implications: The study results were tested as part of a corporate retraining program for the specialists at the “Russian Railways” company in Rostov-on-Don. Participation in corporate university programs allows employees responding quickly to market changes. Originality/value: Main contribution of this study is to create an algorithm for transmitting the company's strategy to all management levels. The tools for key changes in the company’s organizational and financial management system are formed at a corporate university.peer-reviewe

Created-by-current states in long Josephson junctions

Critical curves "critical current - external magnetic field" of long Josephson junctions with inhomogeneity and variable width are studied. We demonstrate the existence of the regions of magnetic field where some fluxon states are stable only, if the external current through the junction is different from zero. Position and size of such regions depend on length of the junction, its geometry, parameters of inhomogeneity and form of the junction. The noncentral (left and right) pure fluxon states are appeared in the inhomogeneous Josephson junction with increase in the junction length. We demonstrate new bifurcation points with change in width of the inhomogeneity and amplitude of the Josephson current through the inhomogeneity.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure

Institutional-synergetic approach in benchmarking of territorial industrial policy

    Get PDF
The authors argue that an industrial policy for a territory is a crucial means for its development and suggest theoretical and methodological outline for its benchmarking. The fact of creating priority development areas (PDAs), which are similar to special economic zones, whose inefficiency is now recognized, confirms the suspicion that PDA creation is an outcome of political lobbing rather than economic planning. Governmental efforts on the federal, regional and municipal levels lack consistency. The current economic conditions lead to fierce competition for investment, which makes municipal and regional governments more open to investors, on the one hand, but on the other, may lead to some poor decision-making. The authors argue that in view of the current priorities of technological innovation, coordination of diverse stakeholders’ interests and goals in PDA dynamics, it is imperative to integrate a PDA development strategy into the industrial policy of a territory. Conceptually, this research relies on the institutional-synergetic approach to benchmarking of territorial industrial policies. This approach can help us develop an industrial policy for a specific PDA by building upon this area’s competitive advantages and by evaluating the available alternatives. To improve managerial decision-making, it is also recommended to study and adopt Russian and international experience in this sphere. PDAs should act as self-organizing systems in order to engage institutions and mechanisms of development 'in the right place at the right time' and employ tools of synergetic management ('stimulate trigger points') for positive synergetic effects. The research was funded by the Russian Foundation for Humanities, project 'Strategy of Formation and Management of Priority Development Areas Based on the Implementation of the Territorial Industrial Policy' № 16-02-00073

The review covers the concept and preparation of the issue, the difficulties of the editorial board and the implementation of the idea of publishing the anniversary issue. The high scholarly level of the published articles ensures the academic significance of the issue, taking into account the overall high level of the journal and the elaborated style of the publication. The work provides a brief description of most of the articles. The reviewer emphasizes the role of investors who made it possible to publish the issue and the dedicated work of the journal’s executive secretary, T. V. Osipenko, in collecting and organizing the publication of the special issue

Epic Synthesis in Late Work of I. S. Turgenev

    Get PDF
The epic synthesis in the works of I. S. Turgenev on the example of his last novel “Nov” is examined in the article. It is noted that the writer had high hopes for this work, since the novel was supposed to show Turgenev’s true position in relation to the Russian people and the future of Russia. It is pointed out that in “Nov” there is no extensively revealed theme of peasant life, but it does not recede into the background: Turgenev represents a collective image of the people, evaluates events from the people’s point of view. It is emphasized that the writer’s attention to the reaction of the public, conditioned by the desire not only to present the most complete picture of life in Russia, but also to show the reader timeless samples of meaningful life, rising above various “questions”, allows us to talk about the epic breadth of the novel. The author of the article proves that the artistic world of “Nov” can be read “layer by layer”, reaching the key meanings: behind the external clashes of political forces is the problem of the relationship between people, their willingness to help each other. Parallels are drawn between the three essays added to the book “Notes of a Hunter” and individual episodes of the novel “Nov”, their ideological and artistic connection is proved. It is concluded that the work of the late Turgenev cannot be analyzed without considering the opposition between the dramatic elements of destruction and the creative force, which is based on the Orthodox world outlook

Clustering in light nuclei in fragmentation above 1 A GeV

The relativistic invariant approach is applied to analyzing the 3.3 A GeV 22^{22}Ne fragmentation in a nuclear track emulsion. New results on few-body dissociations have been obtained from the emulsion exposures to 2.1 A GeV 14^{14}N and 1.2 A GeV 9^{9}Be nuclei. It can be asserted that the use of the invariant approach is an effective means of obtaining conclusions about the behavior of systems involving a few He nuclei at a relative energy close to 1 MeV per nucleon. The first observations of fragmentation of 1.2 A GeV 8^{8}B and 9^{9}C nuclei in emulsion are described. The presented results allow one to justify the development of few-body aspects of nuclear astrophysics.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables, Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics-2, 16-20 May, 2005 (ATOMKI), Debrecen, Hungar
