Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of a birth preparation program on birth satisfaction. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with patients who applied to our hospital between January 2018 and January 2019. A total of 164 pregnant women (Study Group) who applied for the birth preparation program and completed all training in our hospital and 152 pregnant women who did not apply for the birth preparation program and who did not know about such training (Control Group) were included in the study. Demographical data and obstetric parameters of the groups were recorded. All patients were evaluated with the Visual Analog Scale and Salmon’s Item List scale 48 hours after the delivery. The scores of both groups were compared. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of age, gravida, parity, gestational week of birth, the birth weight of infants, and 5th-minute APGAR scores. It was found that the Visual Analog Scale scores of the Control Group were significantly higher than in the Study Group. The Salmon’s Item List scores of the Study Group were significantly higher than those of the patients in the Control Group (< 0.01). Conclusions: The birth preparation program increases satisfaction during labor and decreases the traumas that may occur in the following births and increase comfort in the postpartum period. For this reason, such programs must be applied commonly to ensure that women can face both the birth and postpartum processes comfortably

Serum Alkaline Phosphatase Levels in Healthy Children and Evaluation of Alkaline Phosphatasez-scores in Different Types of Rickets

Objective: Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels show great variation with age and sex in children and adolescents. Additionally, different buffers used even in the same method cause variable results. This detail is not usually taken into account in the evaluation. We aimed to study pediatric age- and sex-specific reference ranges for ALP by colorimetric assay using p-nitrophenyl phosphate as substrate and diethanolamine as buffer and also to compare the ALP levels in patients with different types of rickets

    Get PDF
Introduction:We aimed to compare the patient reported ingested and blood paracetamol concentrations (BPC) and to investigate the indications for N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administration in referred patients. Methods:This is a retrospective study of acute paracetamol intoxications (API) at the tertiary paediatric emergency department (ED) between June 2015-June 2019. We evaluated the demographics, cause of intoxications, reported doses (mg/kg), BPCs (8/4/12/16 and/or 24th hours). Indications of antidote usage and referral to ED were accepted as BPC >150 mg/kg.Results:Overall, we reviewed 117 cases of acute API. The mean age was 8.97 (±6.0) years, and 68.3% were female. The reported ingested of paracetamol (RIP) median dose was 2725 mg (mean 138±51.9 mg/kg). Adolescents had a significantly higher RIP than that of younger subjects (p150 mg/kg, physicians at the first healthcare facility tended to administer activated charcoal (90.9%), gastric lavage (68%) and intravenous NAC (48%). The referring healthcare facility physicians-initiated NAC particularly for patients who reported ingesting >150 mg/kg (p=0.001).Conclusion:RIP doses should not be used to determine the need for NAC. The antidote should be used in centres where BPCs are not available or in a group of patients who cannot be transferred to a referral centre within the first eight hours

The Ottoman av;acirc;rız registers, which classified the population according to social status, as well as religious-ethnic distribution, are of great importance in studying history of the Ottoman demography and settlements. This essay, which tells about some findings on the habitation features, population potentials and qualities of the Filibe (Plovdiv) district at the end of the XVII century, is essentially based on a typical register of this kind. According to the av;acirc;rız register of the year 1695, the concerning district, of which centre was the developed city of Filibe, located in the widest and most productive plain of the region, on the river Meri;ccedil; (Maritza), compassed a wide terrain reaching beyond the mountainous areas surrounding the plain. Filibe, which is today the second greatest centre of Bulgaria under the name ;amp;#8220;Plovdiv;amp;#8221;, was one of the great cities in the Balkans at the end of the XVII century, with its 36 quarters, and a flourished market having much capacity of production and commerce. 282 rural settlements within the district were organized in five ;amp;#8220;nahiye;amp;#8221;s (sub-district). 64 of them were in the nahiye of Karacadağ, 46 in the Rupcoz, 61 in the Koyundepesi, 62 in the G;ouml;psi and 49 in the Konuş.Nüfusun dînî-etnik dağılımı yanında, sosyal statüsüne göre kategorize edilerek kaydedilmiş olduğu avârız defterleri, Osmanlı demografi ve iskân tarihi araştırmaları bakımından oldukça önemlidir. Bunlardan 64’ü Karacadağ, 46’sı Rupcoz, 61’i Koyundepesi, 62’si Göpsi, 49’u Konuş nâhiyeleri hudutları dahilinde bulunmakta idi
