Background: Thyroid disorders are common in India. Symptoms and signs of thyrotoxicosis are nonspecific. Graves disease is an autoimmune condition and is the most common cause of thyrotoxicosis. Cardiovascular system is frequently affected in thyroid disorders but there is not much data on prevalence of thyrotoxicosis and related cardiovascular morbidities in central India. Objectives of study the clinical profile of patients with thyrotoxicosis and outline the related cardiovascular manifestations in a tertiary care center. Design-over a period of nine months a descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary health care center. Methods: A total of 150 patients with thyrotoxicosis were studied. Patients with known diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis and newly diagnosed cases were included. The participants were investigated for thyroid profile, Electrocardiogram, Complete blood count, serum electrolytes and kidney function test. Results: Out of 150 patients of thyrotoxicosis, 87 (58 %) were diagnosed with Graves’s disease. Hypertension was observed in 78 (52 %) of participants. Atrial fibrillation was found in 18 (12%) and sinus tachycardia in 53 (35.33 %) of the participants. Conclusion: Grave’s disease is the commonest cause of thyrotoxicosis. Hypertension, sinus tachycardia and Atrial Fibrillation are the common cardiovascular diseases observed to be associated with thyrotoxicosis

Ultra fine chromite concentration using spiral concentrator

    Get PDF
The conventional chromite beneficiation circuit utilises spiral concentrator for recovering chromite fines and as its efficiency decreases with respect to the decrease in particle size. Pilot scale studies have been performed to understand the effect of different process parameters which influence the separation of ultra fine chromite fines from a typical plant tailing. The process parameters of spiral concentrator such as feed rate (m3/hr), feed pulp density (% solids by weight) and splitter position (cm) are considered for the study. Splitter position has major influence on both grade and recovery of the concentrate fraction of spiral concentrator. Maximum grade of 48.54% Cr2O3 can be achieved in the concentrate fraction of spiral concentrator with 20.41% Cr2O3 recovery. Performance of spiral concentrator at different combination of process parameters was analysed with 3D surface plots

    Get PDF
Background: This study was done to compare two dosing schedules of tablet misoprostol single dose 600 µg (M600) versus multiple doses 400 µg (M400), kept per vaginally for second termination of pregnancy and to analyze induction to abortion time, side effects, and failure to achieve termination of pregnancy. Methods: Women admitted for second-trimester pregnancy termination were considered. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were followed. The women were randomized into two groups, with one group receiving single dose of M600 per vaginal and the other one multiple doses of M400, and the two groups were compared in their outcomes. Results: In the present study no statistical significance was found between the two dosing regimens with regard to induction abortion interval, post-expulsion need for suction, and evacuation. Conclusions: The study revealed that the dose between M400 and M600 has not shown significance compared with two dosing regimens. Single dose M600 can be considered for second-trimester pregnancy termination due to better compliance

Barriers to coastal shipping development: an Indian perspective

    Get PDF
Coastal shipping has been widely recognised as a sustainable and efficient alternative to road transport. However, the barriers encountered in the industry have not been systematically studied in any region. From an Indian perspective, this study aims to prioritise barriers to coastal shipping development for effective policy interventions. It identifies important barriers through a Delphi study and then quantifies their cause-and-effect relationships by the decision making-trial and evaluation laboratory analysis (DEMATEL) technique. It is interesting that the main barriers, those have most impact on coastal shipping development, are not necessarily the ones most widely recognised. The study also uncovers the hidden cause-and-effect relationships between several barriers. Four main barriers are identified: (1) Indian maritime legislation (especially cabotage rules); (2) issues in the infrastructure and procedures at port and port-centric areas; (3) underdevelopment of small ports; (4) lack of a collaborative culture among the various service providers involved in the logistics supply chain. This study finally recommends relaxing cabotage rules to stimulate the inflow of foreign capital to grow coastal shipping, improving the current port system through joint efforts of the ports, Indian customs and government, and fostering supply chain collaboration

Economic efficiency of gill net fishing in Munambam, Ernakulam

The most important fisheries management reforms in Kerala is the monsoon trawl ban when fishing using mechanized vessels like trawlers is banned as the monsoon season is considered to be the breeding and pre-recruitment period of most of the commercially important species. This period however witnesses extensive fishing activity by the motorised sector in Kerala and Munambam Fisheries Harbour, one among the nine major fishing harbours in Kerala was monitored for assessing the economic efficiency of motorised crafts. There are 145 motorised boats and 390 mechanised boats actively operating in the harbour. During monsoon trawl ban, motorized and non-motorized boats are operated, include those coming from other locations of the state

Three dimensional quadratic algebras: Some realizations and representations

Four classes of three dimensional quadratic algebras of the type \lsb Q_0 , Q_\pm \rsb == ±Q±\pm Q_\pm, \lsb Q_+ , Q_- \rsb == aQ02+bQ0+caQ_0^2 + bQ_0 + c, where (a,b,c)(a,b,c) are constants or central elements of the algebra, are constructed using a generalization of the well known two-mode bosonic realizations of su(2)su(2) and su(1,1)su(1,1). The resulting matrix representations and single variable differential operator realizations are obtained. Some remarks on the mathematical and physical relevance of such algebras are given.Comment: LaTeX2e, 23 pages, to appear in J. Phys. A: Math. Ge

Influence of shaking table process parameters on concentration of chromite plant tailings

    Get PDF
Conventional chromite beneficiation plants of India discards large tonnage of chromite values as plant tailing. In the present investigation, a typical chromite beneficiation plant tailing of Sukinda region has investigated by using wet shaking table for the effective utilisation of the natural resource. In this context, the effect of different process variables such as wash water flow rate, deck tilt angle and feed flow rate has analysed. The interactional effects between different process variables has analysed in terms of 3D response surface plots. It was found that the Cr2O3 content has improved to 61.37% from a feed assaying 24.26%. It was envisaged that deck tilt angle has influence major on both grade and recovery of concentrate fraction of shaking table and in case of interactional effects, the interaction between deck tilt angle and feed flow rate has major influence compared to the others. Second order quadratic equations have developed for the prediction of grade and recovery of concentrate fraction of shaking table

Users have recently had more access to information thanks to the growth of the www information system. In these situations, search engines have developed into an essential tool for consumers to find information in a big space. The difficulty of handling this wealth of knowledge grows more difficult every day. Although search engines are crucial for information gathering, many of the results they offer are not required by the user because they are ranked according on user string matches. As a result, there were semantic disparities between the terms used in the user inquiry and the importance of catch phrases in the results. The problem of grouping relevant information into categories of related topics hasn't been solved. A Ranking Based Similarity Learning Approach and SVM based classification frame work of web text to estimate the semantic comparison between words to improve extraction of information is proposed in the work. The results of the experiment suggest improvisation in order to obtain better results by retrieving more relevant results
