Comparing Accredidation of IS Programs among Developed and Developing Countries

    Get PDF
The paper reviews the accreditation activities in the US, European Union and India. The papers find differences in how accreditation happens in different countries. The paper reviews the guidelines for IS curriculum developers by professional organizations when creating and/or revising an IS program. The computing/information systems area (compared to other technical areas) is a little bit behind in developing global requirements for degrees and graduates. These should assure the global recognition of diplomas and courses. The study finds that the only way students can get the appropriate recognition for their courses, studies, credits, and degrees is if the accreditation bodies at national and international levels work more closely together. The common basis should be the mutual recognition of academic performance, and they should agree on a general knowledge base for graduates at the different degree levels

Control of a train of high purity distillation columns for efficient production of 13C isotopes

    Get PDF
It is well-known that high-purity distillation columns are difficult to control due to their ill-conditioned and strongly nonlinear behaviour. The fact that these processes are operated over a wide range of feed compositions and flow rates makes the control design even more challenging. This paper proposes the most suitable control strategies applicable to a series of cascaded distillation column processes. The conditions for control and input-output relations are discusssed in view of the global control strategy. The increase in complexity with increased number of series cascaded distillation column processes is tackled. Uncertainty in the model parameters is discussed with respect to the dynamics of the global train distillation process. The main outcome of this work is insight into the possible control methodologies for this particular class of distillation processes

Comparative Studies Of Oak (Quercus Petraea L.) Reservations Within Cluj Forestry

    Get PDF
In Romania it is necessary a sustained effort to extend the forest areas through artificial regeneration. The purpose of this study is to show the correlation between the heights and diameters of Quercus petraea trees from seed reserves and their seed production. They were chosen 80 trees situated in four Quercus petraea seed reserves of Cluj County. The trees selected were located at a distance of 30 meters from each other. It has been found that the two measured variables (core diameter and trees height) are direct positive correlated, in the sense that increasing the value of a variable and thus leads to an increase in the other. Choosing trees with special qualities have great importance when it comes to transmitting genetic gain new generations. Comprehensive analysis of stationary and vegetation characteristics result in reproductive material with significant values as seeds quality and adaptability.

Pleasing Some of the People Most of teh Time: A Pilot Study of a Citrix Implementation

    Get PDF
An Information Technology department in a large urban state college is challenged to meet the needs of a very diverse population of students, faculty, administrators, and staff. The computer user ranges from the barely computer literate to some faculty members who have far more technical expertise than many of the Information Technology staff. Levels of computer literacy range from novices to experts. The users are geographically dispersed, ranging from main campus lab users to satellite campus users, to online students who rarely are on any of the campuses. This pilot revolves around a problem solution to meet the needs of more advanced distant users without overwhelming the average user, and without allocating the major portion of IT’s budget for relatively few users. It required a scalable solution and a varying number of users

Cybersecurity Certificate Selection Process: A Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

    Get PDF
Organizations that face the threat of cyberattacks protect against those threats, in part, by hiring cybersecurity professionals who have both relevant experience and information security/cybersecurity certifications. Cybersecurity certificates vary in many aspects, involve costs, and offer associated potential financial returns. Given the large number of cybersecurity certificates available, the decision of which one(s) to pursue may not necessarily be straightforward. In this paper, we illustrate the use of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for cybersecurity certificate selection. Our analysis identifies six of 18 certifications considered that demonstrate a maximal relative efficiency, and we analyze why the other certifications are relatively inefficient

Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium L.) and Peach (Prunus persica L.) Phenological Growth Stages According to BBCH Scale

    Get PDF
The study present the detail descriptions of the stages of stone fruits growth, Prunus avium and Prunus persica, according to the BBCH scale. Phenological data were collected from 4 years old trees of P.avium and P. persica. The development stage of each organ was recorded during two growing seasons (2015-2016). Photographs of each stage were taken to illustrate the phenological growth stages. An accurate understanding of these stages is important for the correct timing of orchard management, as well as for disease and pest management, irrigation, flower thinning, fertilizer effectiveness etc

Do Students Get Enough Information Systems Education in the Business Core?

    Get PDF
Information Systems/Technology is a key component in today’s business infrastructures with a myriad of ever-increasing and innovative applications fuelling the drive for competitive advantage. Therefore information systems education should be a critical element in business schools programs today to appropriately prepare students to be competitive. As our university was seeking AACSB accreditation we wanted to investigate what other programs were doing for the information systems area in the business core. Therefore data was acquired from 61 peer institutions, 89% of which are AACSB-accredited. Data about the components of the business core were collected from the university websites and analysed to determine the amount of the business core curriculum devoted to information systems. Analysis indicates that 85% of the peer institutions had one information systems course and only three percent had two information systems courses

Atmospheric delay for electromagnetic signals associated with space / time variations of the refractive index in the lower atmosphere: Applications in spatial geodesy

    Get PDF
The feasibility quantifying atmospheric delay of electromagnetic signals using a mesoscale numerical model (WRF model) is explored. The experiment investigates a new alternative to reduce uncertainty sources in data exploitation for spatial geodesy applications. Our experiment was compared with GPS estimations of stations located in the South-America. The GPS estimations are consistent with values of our proposed methodology. This opens the possibility of using a mesoscale numerical model applied to spatial geodesy. However, these results, despite being promising, need further analysis and research, opening the opportunity to numerical modeling of atmospheric delays using mesoscale models

An Exploration Of The Impact Of Online Delivery In Prerequisite Courses On CIS Majors Course Sequence

    Get PDF
On-line courses have become an important component of the delivery of courses in all areas of education. The validity of online delivery is challenged if Web students perform poorly in subsequent major courses. This paper investigates the level of success, failure, potential, and limitation of on-line delivery in the CIS area at MSCD. The result of this research will provide a framework for developing a methodology for this kind of study, allowing academic institutions to evaluate the success and utility of online courses
