The disintegrin echistatin in combination with doxorubicin targets high-metastatic human osteosarcoma overexpressing ανβ3 integrin in chick embryo and nude mouse models.
Echistatin, a cyclic RGD peptide, which is an antagonist of αvβ3 integrin (disintegrin), inhibited human osteosarcoma in the chick chorioallontoic membrane (CAM) model and tumor growth and pulmonary metastases in a nude mouse orthotopic model. A high-metastatic variant of human osteosarcoma, 143B-LM4, overexpressing αvβ3 integrin was used. Tumor angiogenesis by high-metastatic variant 143B-LM4 cells in the CAM was significantly inhibited by echistatin (P<0.05) as was overall growth. A doxorubicin (DOX)-echistatin combination inhibited orthotopic tumor growth compared to untreated control (P<0.01) or DOX alone (P<0.05) in nude mice. Tumor-bearing mice treated with the DOX-echistatin combination survived longer than those treated with DOX alone or control PBS (P<0.01 and P<0.01, respectively). Echistatin also inhibited experimental lung metastasis of 143B-LM4 cells in nude mice. These results suggest that DOX in combination with a disintegrin has potential to treat osteosarcoma and that αvβ3 integrin may be a target for osteosarcoma
Disintegrin targeting of an αvβ3 integrin-over-expressing high-metastatic human osteosarcoma with echistatin inhibits cell proliferation, migration, invasion and adhesion in vitro.
The in vitro efficacy of the disintegrin echistatin was tested on a high-metastatic variant of 143B human osteosarcoma, 143B-LM4, which over-expresses αvβ3 integrin. Echistatin is an RGD cyclic peptide and an antagonist of αvβ3 integrin. In the present study, echistatin inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and adhesion of 143B-LM4 cells. 143B-LM4 cell proliferation decreased after treatment with echistatin in a time-dependent and dose-dependent manner (P <0.01). In vitro migration and invasion of 143B-LM4 cells were also inhibited by echistatin in a dose-dependent manner (P <0.01, respectively). Cell adhesion to vitronectin of 143B-LM4 cells was also inhibited by echistatin in a dose-dependent manner (P <0.01). These results suggest that αvβ3 integrin may be an effective target for osteosarcoma

Initial results of Husafell solar radio spectrograph
Observing the moon surface and subsurface materials using various radio frequencies is very important for investigating the physical properties of the moon. In particular, the frequency dependence of the dielectric constant of surface and subsurface materials provides information on the density profile. Because the dielectric constant is identified by measuring the reflectivity of the radio waves, we attempted to observe direct solar radio bursts in Iceland and reflected solar radio bursts in Iitate simultaneously. A new solar radio spectrograph to observe solar radio bursts has been installed at Husafell station in Iceland. The spectrograph covers two frequency bands in the ranges of 18MHz to 38MHz and 190MHz to 350MHz. Since September 2004, several successful observations have been made: 30 events of Type-I, -II, -III, and -IV bursts have been found in data obtained between September 2004 and August 2005. The flux density of the solar radio bursts detected in this study was within the range of 10 to 100s.f.u. We previously confirmed that when strong solar burst phenomena occur in the UHF range, the reflected wave signal from the moon surface can be detected using the Iitate Planetary Radio Telescope, installed in Japan

Single Balloon Enteroscopy-Assisted ERCP Using Rendezvous Technique for Sharp Angulation of Roux-en-Y Limb in a Patient with Bile Duct Stones
The acute angulation of Roux-en-Y (R-Y) limb precludes endoscopic access for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) even using a balloon enteroscopy. Here, we describe a case of successful single balloon enteroscopy (SBE)-assisted ERCP using a rendezvous technique in a patient with sharply angulated R-Y limb in a 79-year-old woman who had bile duct stones. Method. At first, a guidewire was passed antegradely through the major papilla after the needle puncture using percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage technique. A hydrophilic guidewire with an ERCP catheter was antegradely advanced beyond the Roux limb. After a guidewire was firmly grasped by a snare forceps, it was pulled out of the body, resulting that the enteroscope could advance to the papilla. After papillary dilation, complete removal of bile duct stones was achieved without any procedure-related complication. In conclusion, although further study is needed, SBE-assisted ERCP using a rendezvous technique may have a potential for selected patients
Constraints on Europa's water group torus from HST/COS observations
In-situ plasma measurements as well as remote mapping of energetic neutral
atoms around Jupiter provide indirect evidence that an enhancement of neutral
gas is present near the orbit of the moon Europa. Simulations suggest that such
a neutral gas torus can be sustained by escape from Europa's atmosphere and
consists primarily of molecular hydrogen, but the neutral gas torus has not yet
been measured directly through emissions or in-situ. Here we present
observations by the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph of the Hubble Space Telescope
(HST/COS) from 2020 and 2021, which scanned the equatorial plane between 8 and
10 planetary radii west of Jupiter. No neutral gas emissions are detected. We
derive upper limits on the emissions and compare these to modelled emissions
from electron impact and resonant scattering using a Europa torus Monte Carlo
model for the neutral gases. The comparison supports the previous findings that
the torus is dilute and primarily consists of molecular hydrogen. A detection
of sulfur ion emissions radially inward of the Europa orbit is consistent with
emissions from the extended Io torus and with sulfur ion fractional abundances
as previously detected
Development of ground pipeline system for high-level scientific data products of the Hisaki satellite mission and its application to planetary space weather
The Hisaki satellite is the first-ever space telescope mission dedicated to planetary sciences. Atmospheres and magnetospheres of our solar system planets are continuously monitored by the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) spectrometer onboard Hisaki. This paper describes a data pipeline system developed for processing high-level scientific and ancillary data products from the Hisaki mission. The telemetry data downlinked from the satellite are stored in a ground telemetry database, processed in the pipeline to imaging spectral data with a 1-min temporal resolution and ancillary data products, and then archived in a public database. The imaging spectra can be further reduced to higher-level data products for practical scientific use. For example, light curves of the power emitted from Jupiter’s aurora and plasma torus with a temporal resolution of 10-min can be reduced from the imaging spectral data; the reduced light curves reveal the transport processes of energy and mass in Jupiter’s magnetosphere and associated interplanetary solar wind conditions. Continuous monitoring with Hisaki will contribute considerably to our understanding of space weather relating to planets in our solar system
