Accountable Care Organizations in California: Promise and Performance

    Get PDF
California has more accountable care organizations (ACOs) than any other state in the country, with particularly rapid growth over the past two years. This report introduces new evidence that ACOs improve the quality of care, increase patient satisfaction, and may reduce costs

MODELING COUPON VALUES FOR READY-TO-EAT BREAKFAST CEREALS

    Get PDF
A theoretical framework is developed to highlight the significant determinants of coupon values. A fixed effects panel data model is fitted with data from the breakfast cereal industry. The explanatory variables include own retail price, brand loyalty, brand market share, rival coupon redemptions, and firm and product type indicators.coupons, ready-to-eat breakfast cereals, panel data model, Consumer/Household Economics, Research Methods/ Statistical Methods,

    Integral Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem

We show that, in characteristic zero, the obvious integral version of the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch formula obtained by clearing the denominators of the Todd and Chern characters is true (without having to divide the Chow groups by their torsion subgroups). The proof introduces an alternative to Grothendieck's strategy: we use resolution of singularities and the weak factorization theorem for birational maps.Comment: 24 page

A Local Cooperative's Financial and Strategic Analysis of the Evaluation of Potential Merger Partners

    Get PDF
This is a two-part teaching case developed through in-person interviews which were conducted with the managers of locally owned farm supply/grain marketing cooperatives in Indiana and Colorado in the spring of 2000. The case has been written so that each part can be used individually or together and can also be used in either the undergraduate classroom or in extension programming with cooperative managers and directors. Part I focuses on how to use financial analysis in business reorganization decisions and Part II focuses on how to analyze alternative business reorganization possibilities from a strategic management perspective.Cooperatives, Mergers, Evaluation of alternative business strategies, Agribusiness,

On the integral cohomology of smooth toric varieties

Let XΣX_\Sigma be a smooth, not necessarily compact toric variety. We show that a certain complex, defined in terms of the fan Σ\Sigma, computes the integral cohomology of XΣX_\Sigma, including the module structure over the homology of the torus. In some cases we can also give the product. As a corollary we obtain that the cycle map from Chow groups to integral Borel-Moore homology is split injective for smooth toric varieties. Another result is that the differential algebra of singular cochains on the Borel construction of XΣX_\Sigma is formal.Comment: 10 page

Moduli Spaces of Lumps on Real Projective Space

    Get PDF
Harmonic maps that minimize the Dirichlet energy in their homotopy classes are known as lumps. Lump solutions on real projective space are explicitly given by rational maps subject to a certain symmetry requirement. This has consequences for the behaviour of lumps and their symmetries. An interesting feature is that the moduli space of charge three lumps is a D2-symmetric 7-dimensional manifold of cohomogeneity one. In this paper, we discuss the charge three moduli spaces of lumps from two perspectives: discrete symmetries of lumps and the Riemann-Hurwitz formula. We then calculate the metric and find explicit formula for various geometric quantities. We also discuss the implications for lump decay

LOCAL COOPERATIVES' EVALUATION OF BUSINESS INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

    Get PDF
Agricultural cooperatives have been restructuring, by way of mergers, acquisitions, joint-ventures, and strategic alliances, to increase efficiencies to remain competitive in a changing business environment. The research evaluating the reorganization of cooperatives has revealed that less than one-half of the restructured businesses are financially successful. There is the potential to significantly influence the future health of the cooperative business sector if, first, insights can be gained concerning the factors being considered by cooperative managers when making restructuring decisions and, second, extension education programs can be adapted to meet the greatest need. In this study we examine: (a) what methods of valuation cooperatives are using when evaluating new business opportunities, and (b) what factors influence the methods of valuation preferred by cooperatives when evaluating new business opportunities.capital budgeting methods, cooperatives, finance, restructuring, Agribusiness,
