Deformed Hartree-Fock Calculation of Proton-Rich Nuclei
We perform Hartree-Fock+BCS calculations for even-even nuclei with 2 <= Z <=
82 and N ranging from outside the proton drip line to the experimental frontier
on the neutron-rich side. The ground state solutions are obtained for 737
nuclei, together with shape-coexistence solutions for 480 nuclei. Our method
features the Cartesian-mesh representation of single-particle wavefunctions,
which is advantageous in treating nucleon skins and exotic shapes. The results
are compared with those of the finite-range droplet model of Moller et al. as
well as the experimental values.Comment: 7 pages Latex, 5 postscript figures appended as uufil
The Revised Emotional Intelligence Scale: Cross Cultural Validation in a Turkish Psychiatric Outpatient Cohort
The original Emotional Intelligence Scale of Fukunishi utilized 65 items, measuring three basic dimensions: Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Situational. Subsequently, using a sample of 170 U.S.psychiatric outpatients, it was factor reduced from 65 to 34 items that showed excellent internal consistency both overall and for two of its three hypothesized factors. This study examined the internal consistency of the 34-item solution in a cohort of 123 Turkish psychiatric outpatients. The mean age of the sample was 34.5 years (SD=11.2). The internal consistency of the total scale was 0.91. Scores also were high for the Interpersonal dimension (0.90) and the Intrapersonal dimension (.0.84), but not for the Situational dimension (0.67). A similar lower scoring pattern for the Si- tuational dimension has been seen both in US and Japanese outpatient populations. These data suggest that, in a Turkish psychiatric outpatient population, this scale also appears to maintain excellent internal consistency both overall and for two of its three hypothesized factors. This inventory may be suitable to investigate suitability for psychological treatment
Particles in classically forbidden area, neutron skin and halo, and pure neutron matter in Ca isotopes
The nucleon density distributions and the thickness of pure neutron matter in
Ca isotopes were systematically studied using the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model
(SHF) from the -stability line to the neutron drip-line. The pure
neutron matter, related with the neutron skin or halo, was shown to depend not
only on the Fermi levels of the neutrons but also on the orbital angular
momentum of the valence neutrons. New definitions for the thickness of pure
neutron matter are proposed.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Hyperfine Anomaly of Be Isotopes and Anomalous Large Anomaly in Be
A new result of investigations of the hyperfine structure (hfs) anomaly in Be
isotopes is presented. The hfs constant for Be is obtained by using the
core plus neutron type wave function: . A large hfs anomaly of Be is found, which is mainly due
to a large radius of the halo single particle state.Comment: 14 pages, Late
Investigation of initiation of gigantic jets connecting thunderclouds to the ionosphere
The initiation of giant electrical discharges called as "gigantic jets"
connecting thunderclouds to the ionosphere is investigated by numerical
simulation method in this paper. Using similarity relations, the triggering
conditions of streamer formation in laboratory situations are extended to form
a criterion of initiation of gigantic jets. The energy source causing a
gigantic jet is considered due to the quasi-electrostatic field generated by
thunderclouds. The electron dynamics from ionization threshold to streamer
initiation are simulated by the Monte Carlo technique. It is found that
gigantic jets are initiated at a height of ~18-24 km. This is in agreement with
the observations. The method presented in this paper could be also applied to
the analysis of the initiation of other discharges such as blue jets and red
sprites.Comment: 12th International Congress on Plasma Physics, 25-29 October 2004,

Transfer/Breakup Modes in the 6He+209Bi Reaction Near and Below the Coulomb Barrier
Reaction products from the interaction of 6He with 209Bi have been measured
at energies near the Coulomb barrier. A 4He group of remarkable intensity,
which dominates the total reaction cross section, has been observed. The
angular distribution of the group suggests that it results primarily from a
direct nuclear process. It is likely that this transfer/breakup channel is the
doorway state that accounts for the previously observed large sub-barrier
fusion enhancement in this system.Comment: 4 pages; 3 figure
Shell Model Study of the Neutron-Rich Nuclei around N=28
We describe the properties of the neutron rich nuclei around N=28 in the
shell mode framework. The valence space comprises the shell for protons an
the shell for neutrons without any restriction. Good agreement is found
with the available experimental data. The N=28 shell closure, even if eroded
due to the large neutron excess, persists. The calculations predict that
S and S are deformed with and
respectively.Comment: 17 pages and 19 figures, LateX, RevTe
