Precision LCVD System Design with Real Time Process Control
A Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition (LCVD) system was designed using a fixed 100
Watt C02 laser focused on a moveable substrate. Temperature and height measurement devices
monitor the reaction at the point of deposition to provide feedback for controlling the process.
The LCVD system will use rapid prototyping technology to directly fabricate fully threedimensional ceramic, metallic, and composite parts of arbitrary shape. Potential applications
include high temperature structures, electronic/photonic devices, and orthopaedic implants.Mechanical Engineerin
The District Role in Instructional Improvement
Are changing conditions affecting the capacity of districts to provide focus, to coordinate support, and to scale up successful reforms? From a study of the roles played by central office staff members in shaping and supporting instructional reforms in three large urban districts, the authors derive an answer
Inflation in Russia: 1989-present
The primary purpose of this paper is to review the literature that analyzes Russia\u27s economic transition and the causes of the inflation. Next, the paper analyzes what role the inflation plays in the current process of reform of the Russian economy. Finally, drawing from the experiences of other nations with similar histories, previous and possible policy options to remedy the inflation are discussed
Preparation of a Polymer Supported Cobalt (II) Schiff Base Catalyst
Polystyrene bis(salicylaldehyde)-propylene-1,3-diiminato Cobalt (II) (salen) and Polystyrene bis(acetylacetone)-propylene-1,3-diiminato Cobalt (II) (BAE) were prepared stepwise from polystyrl chloride. The reaction series included substitution of the chloride with a malononitrile carbanion, reduction to a diamine, condensation to form a Schiff base, and complexation with Co(II) acetate to form the active polymeric material. Optimum conditions with regard to time, temperature, reaction ratios, and solvent were determined for each reaction. The ability of the polymer bound cobalt complex to oxidize 3-methyl indole was measure. The BAE catalyst yielded a large amount of the corresponding o-formylaminoacetophenone. However, the exact yield is not known because product could not be separated from the indole. The salen catalyst showed starting material with a small indication of product
Compactness and asymptotic behavior in nonautonomous linear parabolic equations with unbounded coefficients in
We consider a class of second order linear nonautonomous parabolic equations
in R^d with time periodic unbounded coefficients. We give sufficient conditions
for the evolution operator G(t,s) be compact in C_b(R^d) for t>s, and describe
the asymptotic behavior of G(t,s)f as t-s goes to infinity in terms of a family
of measures mu_s, s in R, solution of the associated Fokker-Planck equation
