    Detection and Modeling of Vegetation Phenology Spatiotemporal Characteristics in the Middle Part of the Huai River Region in China

    Vegetation plays an important role in atmospheric, hydrologic and biochemical cycles and is an important indicator of the impact of climate and human factors on the environment. In this paper, a method, which combines the empirical orthogonal function (EOF) and temporal unmixing analysis (TUA) methods, is applied to monitor the phenological characteristcs and spatial distribution of vegetation phenology in the middle part of the Huai River region. Based on the variance and EOF curves, the EOF provides the number of phenology modes, information which is the basis for an accurate temporal unmixing model. The TUA describes the temporal vegetation phenological details and spatial distribution. Importantly, this approach does not require assumptions, prior information or pre-defined thresholds. The vegetation phenology curves derived from the MODIS EVI data using the combined EOF and TUA methods display much more detail than the curves from Landsat TM using spectral mixture analysis (SMA). Additionally, the vegetation phenology spatial distribution from MODIS EVI is consistent with the field survey data. The combination method of EOF and TUA can be used to monitor vegetation phenology spatiotemporal change in a large area from time series of MODIS EVI data

    Quantile Optimization via Multiple Timescale Local Search for Black-box Functions

    We consider quantile optimization of black-box functions that are estimated with noise. We propose two new iterative three-timescale local search algorithms. The first algorithm uses an appropriately modified finite-difference-based gradient estimator that requires 2d2d + 1 samples of the black-box function per iteration of the algorithm, where dd is the number of decision variables (dimension of the input vector). For higher-dimensional problems, this algorithm may not be practical if the black-box function estimates are expensive. The second algorithm employs a simultaneous-perturbation-based gradient estimator that uses only three samples for each iteration regardless of problem dimension. Under appropriate conditions, we show the almost sure convergence of both algorithms. In addition, for the class of strongly convex functions, we further establish their (finite-time) convergence rate through a novel fixed-point argument. Simulation experiments indicate that the algorithms work well on a variety of test problems and compare well with recently proposed alternative methods

    Expression of the Inhibitory Receptor TIGIT Is Up-Regulated Specifically on NK Cells With CD226 Activating Receptor From HIV-Infected Individuals

    Natural killer (NK) cells are important for maintenance of innate immune system stability and serve as a first line of defense against tumors and virus infections; they can act either directly or indirectly and are regulated via co-operation between inhibitory and stimulatory surface receptors. The recently reported inhibitory receptor, TIGIT, can be expressed on the NK cell surface; however, the expression level and function of TIGIT on NK cells during HIV infection is unknown. In this study, for the first time, we investigated the expression and function of TIGIT in NK cells from HIV-infected individuals. Our data demonstrate that the level of TIGIT is higher on NK cells from patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) compared with HIV-negative healthy controls. TIGIT expression is inversely correlated with CD4+ T cell counts and positively correlated with plasma viral loads. Additionally, levels of the TIGIT ligand, CD155, were higher on CD4+ T cells from HIV-infected individuals compared with those from healthy controls; however, there was no difference in the level of the activating receptor, CD226, which recognizes the same ligands as TIGIT. Furthermore, TIGIT was found to specifically up-regulated on CD226+ NK cells in HIV-infected individuals, and either rIL-10, or rIL-12 + rIL-15, could induce TIGIT expression on these cells. In addition, high TIGIT expression inhibited the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-Îł) by NK cells, while TIGIT inhibition restored IFN-Îł production. Overall, these results highlight the important role of TIGIT in NK cell function and suggest a potential new avenue for the development of therapeutic strategies toward a functional cure for HIV

    NKG2C+NKG2A− Natural Killer Cells are Associated with a Lower Viral Set Point and may Predict Disease Progression in Individuals with Primary HIV Infection

    Natural killer (NK) cells are the first line of defense against pathogens of the immune system and also play an important role in resistance against HIV. The activating receptor NKG2C and the inhibitory receptor NKG2A co-modulate the function of NK cells by recognizing the same ligand, HLA-E. However, the role of NKG2A and NKG2C on viral set point and the prediction of HIV disease progression have been rarely reported. In this study, we determined the expression of NKG2C or NKG2A on the surface of NK cells from 22 individuals with primary HIV infection (PHI) stage and 23 HIV-negative normal control (NC) subjects. The CD4+ T cell count and plasma level of HIV RNA in the infected individuals were longitudinally followed-up for about 720 days. The proportion of NKG2C+NKG2A− NK cells was higher in subjects from the low set point group and was negatively correlated with the viral load. In addition, strong anti-HIV activities were observed in NKG2C+ NK cells from the HIV-positive donors. Furthermore, a proportion of NKG2C+NKG2A− NK cells >35.45%, and a ratio of NKG2C/NKG2A >1.7 were predictive for higher CD4+ T cell counts 720 days after infection. Collectively, the experimental results allow us to draw the conclusion that NKG2C+ NK cells might exert an antiviral effect and that the proportion of NKG2C+NKG2A− NK cells, and the ratio of NKG2C/NKG2A, are potential biomarkers for predicting HIV disease progression

    How Does Rail Transit Affect the Spatial Differentiation of Urban Residential Prices? A Case Study of Beijing Subway

    Rail transit is a significant measure for the comprehensive development of large cities, which influences the land use patterns and the spatial patterns of residential prices around the rail. This study considered Beijing Metro Line 10 and Line 13 as examples, based on a semi-logarithmic hedonic price model, combined with facility point-of-interest (POI) data and residential unit transaction data, to study how rail transit affects the spatial differentiation of urban residential prices. Within the 2 km study area along the line, factors such as community grade (property fee), living environment (park), and living convenience (shopping mall) significantly affected the residential prices. Factors influencing residential prices in different rail locations also differed. The residential prices within the fourth ring (Line 10) were correlated significantly with population density (plot ratio) and station distance, while residential prices outside the fourth ring (Line 13) were correlated with community environment (greening rate), community-built time (age of residence), and public transportation conditions. The conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) Within the urban area of a single central city, the average residential price on the inner side of the rail transit line adjacent to the city center is higher than on the outer side. (2) Neighborhood characteristics significantly affect residential prices along rail transit lines in urban areas, while the architectural and neighborhood characteristics have equally important effects on residential prices along suburban rail transit lines. (3) Urban residential patterns affect residential prices along rail transit lines, with rail transit in urban areas having lesser value-added effect on areas with higher residential prices and suburban rail transit having higher value-added effect on areas with lower residential prices. The innovation of this study is to analyze the spatial differentiation from two location perspectives: the residential price pattern of the city and the city’s own ring division, and to add new location characteristic variables at a unit distance of 200 m. This study confirms that the spatial effect of rail transit on residential prices in different locations of the same city is not the same, and it also provides policy suggestions for strengthening the combination of Transit-Oriented-Development (TOD) model and the layout of residential land

    We study a fractional differential equation dynamics model arising from the analysis of real estate asset securitization by using the generalized fixed point theorem for weakly contractive mappings in partially ordered sets. Based on the analysis for the existence and uniqueness of the solution and scientific numerical calculation of the solution, in further study, some optimization schemes for traditional risk control process will be obtained, and then the main results of this paper can be applied to the forefront of research of real estate asset securitization

    Mixed Land Use Evaluation and Its Impact on Housing Prices in Beijing Based on Multi-Source Big Data

    The tense relationship between the supply and demand of land resources and the past spatial expansion of urban development in Beijing have brought many urban problems. Mixed land use is considered to be able to solve these urban problems as well as promote sustainable urban development. In this context, this study uses multi-source big data such as POI, OpenStreetMap and web crawler data to construct current land-use data of the area within the sixth ring road of Beijing, and then uses the entropy index and type number index to analyze the spatial distribution and aggregation characteristics of the mixed land-use level. Finally, a multi-scale geographically weighted regression is applied to explore the impact of the block and life circle scale mixed land use on housing prices. The results show that: (1) the accuracy of land use data obtained by using multi-source big data is high, and the consistency with the real land use situation is as high as 82.67%. (2) the mixed land use level in the study area is higher in the urban center and lower in the periphery of the city. However, it does not show the spatial distribution characteristics gradually decreasing with the increase of the distance from the urban center but shows that the area from the third to the fifth ring road is the highest. (3) the impact of block scale and life circle scale mixed land use on housing price is different. The type number index has a negative effect on the housing price in block scale mixed land use, while the entropy index has a positive effect on the housing price in life circle scale mixed land use. Based on the existing “bottom-up” individual-dominant development mode, the government of Beijing should issue relevant policies and documents to give “top-down” control and guidance in the future, so as to promote the maximization of the benefits of mixed land use. Furthermore, in the practice of mixed land use in Beijing, land use types should be reduced at the block scale and the area of different land use types should be balanced at the life circle scale

    The Dynamic Analysis of Agro-ecological Economic System on the Basis of Emergy : A Case Study of Wu'an City in Hebei Province

    Using the method of emergy analysis, we analyze the input and output of agro-ecological economic system, and select five indicators (net emergy yield ratio, emergy investment ratio, environmental loading ratio, emergy sustainability index, and dominance of emergy yield system) for assessment. The results show that the emergy input-output in Wu'an City is in general on the rise; the emergy investment ratio rises constantly, but the net emergy yield ratio decreases, and the comparative advantage in the prices of agricultural products is gradually lost. At the same time, with increase in the non-renewable industrial support emergy, the environmental pressures are also mounting. In the future agricultural development, it is necessary to pay more attention to the coordination between agricultural development and ecological environment, achieving sustainable development of agriculture
