This critical, theoretical paper conceptualizes what determines an ethics for youth media production. Through discussions of medialiteracy, identity, and multimodality, I attempt to shift the question away from “What are the ethical ways in which youth use media?”toward the question “What are the ethics we have created as media literacy educators within which youth create media?” I assert thatwe must widen our lens to revision ethics as a complex interplay of definitions of media literacy, representations of youth identities, andunderstandings of modality as we move toward envisioning what constitutes an ethics of youth media production

Towards Personalised Simplification based on L2 Learners' Native Language

    Get PDF
We present an approach to improve the selection of complex words for automatic text simplification, addressing the need of L2 learners to take into account their native language during simplification. In particular, we develop a methodology that automatically identifies ‘difficult’ terms (i.e. false friends) for L2 learners in order to simplify them. We evaluate not only the quality of the detected false friends but also the impact of this methodology on text simplification compared with a standard frequency-based approach

THE IMPACT OF BAL TASCHIT IN THE WRITINGS OF ANNE FRANK, PRIMO LEVI, AND ELIE WIESEL

    Get PDF
This thesis focuses on how the Jewish tradition of Bal Taschit influenced the behavior and thoughts of prisoners during the Holocaust. The interaction with nature in Holocaust works indicates an adherence to this tradition and that the writers were able to use this tradition to make a statement of how the destruction of the Holocaust was offset by preservation and admiration of nature.  The interaction between prisoners and their natural environment and the effects of those interactions is explored through the works of Elie Wiesel, Primo Levi, and Anne Frank. These are the most prominent and well known Holocaust survivor authors.  Many scholars have studied the effects of imprisonment and the Holocaust, but little has been said about Jewish environmental thought.  M.A

This article is based on the communication of traditional celebrations in Romania nowadays and how the media are influencing the perception of people over them. People are encouraged by the media to discover new ways to celebrate popular celebrations like Christmas or Easter in a more modern way, different from the traditional ways. When people are thinking about Christmas, they are seeing joy, family gathering, tree, presents and of course, the appearance of Santa Claus. Few people are thinking about the birth of Jesus Christ. Thus, they need a better communication between them and the media. People have to understand the importance of keeping the Romanian traditions alive and to pass them from a generation to another. If celebrations as Christmas or Easter are the most popular in Romania from two points of vie
