    Giant magnons in TsT-transformed AdS_5 x S^5

We consider giant magnons propagating in a \gamma-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 background obtained from AdS_5 x S^5 by means of a chain of TsT transformations. We point out that in the light-cone gauge and in the infinite J limit the deformed and undeformed string models share the same magnon dispersion relation, the \su(2|2)\oplus \su(2|2)-invariant world-sheet S-matrix and the dressing factor. The \gamma-dependence in the limit is only due to different level-matching conditions. We consider the reduction of the deformed model to R x S^3 and determine the leading \gamma-dependence of the dispersion relation for a finite J giant magnon.Comment: 21 pages; v2: minor corrections (missing 2\pi factor inserted, inequalities corrected); 2 references adde

Synthesis and Research of Alumina Ceramics Properties

    Get PDF
The article describes in detail alumina powder synthesis by different methods at varying parameters. The technique of obtaining ceramics and the research of the optical properties for determining the materials with the maximum luminescence efficiency is presented. The concentration of the luminescence intrinsic centers and various defects differ for ceramics synthesized by different methods. It is determined that ceramics based on the powder synthesized by a sol-gel method has the maximum thermoluminescence intensity in the F-center peak, whereas for the peak of 360 °C it is obtained with the powder prepared by precipitation of aluminum nitrate with a PEG‑20000 stabilizer

Black hole entropy: statistical mechanics agrees thermodynamics

We discuss the connection between different entropies introduced for black hole. It is demonstrated on the two-dimensional example that the (quantum) thermodynamical entropy of a hole coincides (including UV-finite terms) with its statistical-mechanical entropy calculated according to 't Hooft and regularized by Pauli-Villars.Comment: 10 pages, latex. Some new discussion added. Version to appear in Phys Rev.

    Laser action in conducting polymers

We discuss both cooperative radiation and stimulated emission and consider their role in spectral narrowing of luminescent conducting polymers. We argue that cooperative radiation is favored in films with poor optical confinement. On the other hand, directional stimulated emission can be observed in dilute solution and thin films with superior optical confinement. Spectral narrowing in this case can be achieved by increasing either the excitation length or excitation intensity. The optical gain and loss coefficients are measured. Narrow line (approximately 1.5 cm-1) laser emission is observed in cylindrical microcavities formed by thin polymer films coated around glass fibers in the red and green spectral ranges. The cavity quality factors of these plastic lasers are mainly determined by selfabsorption and estimated to be about 5000.Optical Scnce, Engineering and Instrumentation '97, 1997, San Diego, CA, United StatesSergey V. Vinculin gene is non-essential in Drosophila melanogaster

    Get PDF
AbstractVinculin is thought to be an important cytoskeletal protein in the linkage between actin cytoskeleton and integrin transmembrane receptors. We identified Vinculin (Vinc) gene in the X chromosome of D. melanogaster. Drosophila vinculin is highly homologous in its N- and C-terminal domains both to mammalian and nematode vinculins, and contains internal repeats and proline-rich region typical for vinculins. The X chromosome rearrangement In(1LR)pn2a was found to disrupt Vinc so that the coding sequence is interrupted by the (AAGAG)n satellite DNA. Northern analysis revealed that the Vinc transcript is completely absent in the In(1LR)pn2a homozygous flies. Surprisingly, these Vinc flies are viable and fertile. This finding highlights plasticity and adaptive capacity of cellular cytoskeletal and anchorage system

ESTIMATED JUSTIFICATION OF TECHNICAL DECISION ON STRENGTHENING REINFORCED CONCRETE MACHINE HALL FLOOR

    Get PDF
Introduction. In connection with the long-term operation of hydraulic structures (HPP), the installation of significant temporary loads, the presence of alternating effects on individual structural elements, it is possible to reduce the carrying capacity and strength of reinforced concrete structures. One of the most crucial elements is the reinforced concrete overlap of the machine hall, the work presents field and design studies, a proposal to strengthen the structures with external reinforcement. Materials and methods. The scientific and technical documentation was analyzed, instrumental studies and visual inspections of the state of the structures were carried out, and a 3D mathematical model was developed based on the finite element method. Multivariate non-linear computational studies of the actual stress-strain state of structures have been carried out. Results. Conducted visual and instrumental examination showed the presence of cracking on the lower edge of the reinforced concrete floor of the machine room. The simulation of the actual state of the structures has been carried out; according to the results of calculations, a schematic diagram of the gain of structures has been proposed. Conclusions. As a result of computational studies of stress-strain state, the occurrence of cracks on the lower edge of reinforced concrete floor of the machine hall was confirmed. When applying temporary technological loads to overlap, it is possible to achieve the yield strength of the reinforcement in certain zones. In order to ensure further safe operation of the structures, a conceptual amplification scheme based on the results of stress-strain state calculations has been proposed

Institutional transformation of the financial basis of the local self-government

The study investigates the institutional transformation of financial basis of the local self-government in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland via comparative qualitative research methods. As a result, the Czech Republic also failed to avoid a downturn, but since 2010, the economy has started to grow and, consequently, there has been an increase in GDP at 1%. In conclusion, local and regional development must be supported by planned finances, rather than by the financing of individual projects, specifically, financial instruments, the structure and flexibility of which is consistent with the objectives of the integrated program of development of local self-government.
