A preferred vision for administering secondary schools : a reflective essay

    Get PDF
This reflective paper is my vision of the role of a forward looking Secondary Administrator who effectively uses educational research to impact school improvement in a positive fashion. It is, in effect, a snapshot that includes two sections. Some personal history, characteristics, and core values are in the first section. The final section is a composite reflection that synthesizes knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained through coursework and from experience into my professional vision for administrative practice. I think brain compatible computer-assisted learning can be a component of effective education and the research cited reflects that

A Policy Handbook for the Union Gap School District

    Get PDF
This project presents a proposed policy handbook to the board of directors of the Union Gap School District which will replace the present outdated handbook. Prior to writing the new policies, a review was made of educational literature on policy development, the Union Gap School District\u27s board minutes, and surrounding school districts policy handbooks. The policies from the surrounding school districts were categorized according to subject matter, and, utilizing these policies along with a close communication with the school board and the superintendent, new policies were developed that would meet the unique needs of the Union Gap School District

The Relative Impact of External Capital on Manufacturing Output in Nigeria

External capital is one of the major sources of investible resources in most developing Countries and is made of foreign direct investment (FDI),foreign aid (AID) and external debt. In this study, the relative impact of external capital on manufacturing output, on one hand, and on Economic growth, on the other hand, in Nigeria,  are examined. Economic growth is proxied by gross domestic product (GDP) growth. Employing the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method and an annual time series data for the period between 1982 and 2013 obtained from World Bank’s website, it is found that in the short-run, a 1inflowofFDIisaccompaniedbyastatisticallyinsignificant0.45centreductioninmanufacturingoutput,a1 inflow of FDI is accompanied by a statistically insignificant 0.45 cent reduction in manufacturing output, a 1 inflow of foreign aid is accompanied by a statistically significant 49 cents reduction in manufacturing output and a 1inflowofexternaldebtisaccompaniedbyastatisticallysignificant18centsreductioninmanufacturingoutput.ThisimpliesthatFDIhasazeroimpactonmanufacturingoutputwhileAIDandexternaldebthasasignificantnegativeimpactonmanufacturingoutputinNigeria.Therefore,allformsofexternalcapitalhavedifferentlevelsofnegativeindividualimpactonmanufacturingoutputinNigeria.Also,itisfoundthatintheshortrun,a1 inflow of external debt is accompanied by a statistically significant 18 cents reduction in manufacturing output. This implies that FDI has a zero impact on manufacturing output while AID and external debt has a significant negative impact on manufacturing output in Nigeria. Therefore, all forms of external capital have different levels of negative individual impact on manufacturing output in Nigeria. Also, it is found that in the short-run, a 1 inflow of FDI is accompanied by a statistically significant 13.4reductionineconomicgrowth,a13.4 reduction in economic growth, a 1 inflow of aid is accompanied by a statistically insignificant 5.68increaseineconomicgrowthanda5.68 increase in economic growth and a 1 external loan inflow is accompanied by a statistically insignificant $1.73 increase in economic growth. This implies that FDI has a significant impact on economic growth, while AID and external debt has an insignificant or zero impact on economic growth. Therefore, not all forms of external capital do have significant impact on economic output in Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that government should make the business environment more investor friendly, make doing business in Nigeria easy, ensure prudent borrowing, ensure appropriate utilization of borrowed funds, ensure project continuity and ensure financial inclusiveness. Keywords: Foreign direct investment, foreign aid, external debt, manufacturing output, economic growth.

An Assessment of the Spatial and Temporal variations of Groundwater quality in Yatta Plateau in Kitui County, Kenya

The study is primarily focused on the assessment of groundwater quality in the Yatta Plateau of Kitui County. The study focused on the spatial temporal distribution of key chemical parameters namely pH, TDS, Colour, Total hardness, Turbidity, Conductivity, Total alkalinity, Fluoride and Iron. Groundwater samples were collected four times from the six target boreholes found on the plateau in the period between March 2015 and March 2016. The sampling programme covered two dry seasons and two wet seasons. Key physicochemical parameters were analysed using standard laboratory methods. The water samples were analyzed at the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) Water Quality Testing Laboratory in Nairobi. The results of the study show that there is no direct relationship between rainfall and variations of groundwater quality in the Yatta plateau. The influence of water abstraction on water quality was also limited. The dominant influence on groundwater quality in the Yatta Plateau was found to be the geological characteristics of the area. It was however found that there was spatial-temporal variability in different groundwater quality parameters that were analysed. The study recommends integrated groundwater resources management including continuous water quality monitoring in the Yatta Plateau in Eastern Kenya. Key Words: Groundwater quality, physic-chemical parameters, spatial-temporal variability, Yatta Plateau, Keny

Replacing Leads by Self-Energies Using Nonequilibrium Green's Functions

An open quantum system consists of leads connected to a device of interest. Within the nonequilibrium Green's function technique, we examine the replacement of leads by self-energies in continuum calculations. Our starting point is a formulation of the problem for continuum systems by T.E. Feuchtwang. In this approach there is considerable flexibility in the choice of unperturbed Green's functions. We examine the consequences of this freedom on the treatment of leads. For any choice the leads can be replaced by coupling self-energies which are simple functions of energy. We find that the retarded self-energy depends on the details of the choice of unperturbed Green's function, and can take any value. However, the nonequilibrum self-energy or scattering function can be taken to be independent of this choice. Expressed in terms of these self-energies, nonequilibrium transport calculations take a particularly simple form.Comment: 14 pages, 0 figure

A Review of Target Mass Corrections

With recent advances in the precision of inclusive lepton--nuclear scattering experiments, it has become apparent that comparable improvements are needed in the accuracy of the theoretical analysis tools. In particular, when extracting parton distribution functions in the large-x region, it is crucial to correct the data for effects associated with the nonzero mass of the target. We present here a comprehensive review of these target mass corrections (TMC) to structure functions data, summarizing the relevant formulas for TMCs in electromagnetic and weak processes. We include a full analysis of both hadronic and partonic masses, and trace how these effects appear in the operator product expansion and the factorized parton model formalism, as well as their limitations when applied to data in the x->1 limit. We evaluate the numerical effects of TMCs on various structure functions, and compare fits to data with and without these corrections.Comment: 41 pages, 13 figures; minor updates to match published versio
