Genetic diversity of red clover varieties listed in Germany concerning the resistance to Southern Anthracnose
Environmental management as situated practice
We propose an analysis of environmental management (EM) as work and as practical activity. This approach enables empirical studies of the diverse ways in which professionals, scientists, NGO staffers, and activists achieve the partial manageability of specific “environments”. In this introduction, we sketch the debates in Human Geography, Management Studies, Science and Technology Studies to which this special issue contributes. We identify the limits of understanding EM though the framework of ecological modernization, and show how political ecology and work- place studies provide important departures towards a more critical approach. Developing these further, into a cosmopolitical direction, we propose studying EM as sets of socially and materially situated practices. This enables a shift away from established approaches which treat EM either as a toolbox whose efficiency has to be assessed, or as simply the implementation of dominant projects and the materialisation of hegemonic discourse. Such a shift renders EM as always messy practices of engagement, critique and improvisation. We conclude that studying the distributed and situated managing agencies, actors and their practices allows to imagine new forms of critical interventions
Successful interdisciplinary treatment of a rare cause of acute myocardial ischaemia from intermittent tumour-associated obstruction of the left main coronary artery: a case report
Background A papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve has been reported as a rare cause of myocardial ischaemia. An advanced combined interventional and surgical approach leading to sufficient therapy for the patient is presented in this case report. Case summary A 56-year-old female patient presented in an emergency room of a hospital with an acute coronary syndrome. Over 1.5 years, recurrent stable angina had been known in the patient and significant coronary artery disease has already been ruled out in a previous coronary angiogram. The patient was immediately transferred to the catheter laboratory due to cardiogenic shock where a drug-eluting stent was implanted to, firstly, recanalize the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and, secondly, to protect the left main ostium from obstruction by an echocardiographic-proven mass. During subsequent deterioration of haemodynamics caused by decreasing left ventricular function and acute severe mitral insufficiency, firstly an intra-aortic balloon pump and secondly a veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was established through the femoral vessels. The patient was transferred to our cardiac surgery unit and was successfully operated utilizing a valve-sparing technique by extracting the tumour mass from the left coronary cusp and extracting the stent carefully from the LMCA. Histology revealed a papillary fibroelastoma. Conclusion A papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve with intermittent obstruction of the coronary arteries requires surgical therapy. Interventional recanalization and extracorporeal support might be useful strategies to ensure the patient's safety as a bridge to surgery
Southern Anthracnose, a fungal disease of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) caused by Colletotrichum trifolii, seems to gain more importance in agriculture in Germany. This investigation should examine whether there is a simple possibility to increase the resistance in cultivars or breeding material through recurrent selection. Six red clover cultivars listed in Germany were used for this study. The survival rate after one and two cycles of recurrent selection was increased by 17 and 26 percentage points compared to the parental population. The advance in resistance generally was higher in populations with lower original resistance

On the origin of ultrametricity
In this paper we show that in systems where the probability distribution of
the the overlap is non trivial in the infinity volume limit, the property of
ultrametricity can be proved in general starting from two very simple and
natural assumptions: each replica is equivalent to the others (replica
equivalence or stochastic stability) and all the mutual information about a
pair of equilibrium configurations is encoded in their mutual distance or
overlap (separability or overlap equivalence).Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
Ultrametricity in 3D Edwards-Anderson spin glasses
We perform an accurate test of Ultrametricity in the aging dynamics of the
three dimensional Edwards-Anderson spin glass. Our method consists in
considering the evolution in parallel of two identical systems constrained to
have fixed overlap. This turns out to be a particularly efficient way to study
the geometrical relations between configurations at distant large times. Our
findings strongly hint towards dynamical ultrametricity in spin glasses, while
this is absent in simpler aging systems with domain growth dynamics. A recently
developed theory of linear response in glassy systems allows to infer that
dynamical ultrametricity implies the same property at the level of equilibrium
states.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
