Picturing Psalms: Pilgrims’ Processions in Late Antique Jerusalem
Early in the 2nd century CE, the city of Ephesus received an unusual gift from a private citizen: the funding of processions, in which thirty-one purpose-made statues and images would be carried through the main thoroughfares of the Roman city. Endowed by the equestrian Caius Vibius Salutaris, the gift provided for the production of nine large statues of the goddess Artemis as well as some twenty-two portable silver images of figures from the city’s mythical and historic past. He provided for..
Stakeholders? Perspectives Of Accounting Faculty Time Allocations
This study provides evidence on how various stakeholder groups perceive faculty time is and should be allocated across teaching, research and service. To ascertain the priorities of various stakeholders, a questionnaire was administered to accounting professionals, accounting students, and taxpayers. Assistant professors were also surveyed to establish a benchmark for comparisons. Overall, the findings indicate a disparity between the perceptions of accounting professors and their stakeholders regarding time allocations. Suggestions on ways to mitigate these differences are offered
Failure Processes in Embedded Monolayer Graphene under Axial Compression
Exfoliated monolayer graphene flakes were embedded in a polymer matrix and
loaded under axial compression. By monitoring the shifts of the 2D Raman
phonons of rectangular flakes of various sizes under load, the critical strain
to failure was determined. Prior to loading care was taken for the examined
area of the flake to be free of residual stresses. The critical strain values
for first failure were found to be independent of flake size at a mean value of
-0.60 % corresponding to a yield stress of -6 GPa. By combining Euler mechanics
with a Winkler approach, we show that unlike buckling in air, the presence of
the polymer constraint results in graphene buckling at a fixed value of strain
with an estimated wrinkle wavelength of the order of 1-2 nm. These results were
compared with DFT computations performed on analogue coronene/ PMMA oligomers
and a reasonable agreement was obtained.Comment: 28 pages. Manuscript 20 pages, 8 figures. Supporting information 10

Embodied Discourses of Literacy in the Lives of Two Preservice Teachers
This study examines the emerging teacher literacy identities of Ian and A.J., two preservice teachers in a graduate teacher education program in the United States. Using a poststructural feminisms theoretical framework, the study illustrates the embodiment of literacy pedagogy discourses in relation to the literacy courses’ discourse of comprehensive literacy and the literacy biographical discourses of Ian and A.J. The results of this study indicate the need to deconstruct how the discourse of comprehensive literacy limits how we, as literacy teacher educators, position, hear and respond to our preservice teachers and suggests the need for differentiation in our teacher education literacy courses
Deep-subwavelength Phase Retarders at Mid-Infrared Frequencies with van der Waals Flakes
Phase retardation is a cornerstone of modern optics, yet, at mid-infrared
(mid-IR) frequencies, it remains a major challenge due to the scarcity of
simultaneously transparent and birefringent crystals. Most materials resonantly
absorb due to lattice vibrations occurring at mid-IR frequencies, and natural
birefringence is weak, calling for hundreds of microns to millimeters-thick
phase retarders for sufficient polarization rotation. We demonstrate mid-IR
phase retardation with flakes of -molybdenum trioxide
(-MoO) that are more than ten times thinner than the operational
wavelength, achieving 90 degrees polarization rotation within one micrometer of
material. We report conversion ratios above 50% in reflection and transmission
mode, and wavelength tunability by several micrometers. Our results showcase
that exfoliated flakes of low-dimensional crystals can serve as a platform for
mid-IR miniaturized integrated polarization control.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
Retrieving optical parameters of emerging van der Waals flakes
High-quality low-dimensional layered and van der Waals materials are
typically exfoliated, with sample cross sectional areas on the order of tens to
hundreds of microns. The small size of flakes makes the experimental
characterization of their dielectric properties unsuitable with conventional
spectroscopic ellipsometry, due to beam-sample size mismatch and
non-uniformities of the crystal axes. Previously, the experimental measurement
of the dielectrirc permittivity of such microcrystals was carried out with
near-field tip-based scanning probes. These measurements are sensitive to
external conditions like vibrations and temperature, and require
non-deterministic numerical fitting to some a priori known model. We present an
alternative method to extract the in-plane dielectric permittivity of van der
Waals microcrystals, based on identifying reflectance minima in spectroscopic
measurements. Our method does not require complex fitting algorithms nor near
field tip-based measurements and accommodates for small-area samples. We
demonstrate the robustness of our method using hexagonal boron nitride and
{\alpha}-MoO3, and recover their dielectric permittivities that are close to
literature values.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure and 3 table
Non-invasive brain stimulation for treatment-resistant schizophrenia: protocol of a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND
Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) is a promising intervention for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. However, there are multiple available techniques and a comprehensive synthesis of evidence is lacking. Thus, we will conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis to investigate the comparative efficacy and safety of NIBS techniques as an add-on to antipsychotics for treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
METHODS
We will include single- and double-blind randomized-controlled trials (RCT) comparing any NIBS technique with each other or with a control intervention as an add-on to antipsychotics in adult patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia. We will exclude studies focusing on predominant negative symptoms, maintenance treatment, and single sessions. The primary outcome will be a change in overall symptoms, and secondary outcomes will be a change in symptom domains, cognitive performance, quality of life, functioning, response, dropouts, and side effects. We will search for eligible studies in previous reviews, multiple electronic databases and clinical trial registries from inception onwards. At least two independent reviewers will perform the study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment. We will measure the treatment differences using standardized mean difference (SMD) and odds ratio (OR) for continuous and dichotomous outcomes, respectively. We will conduct pairwise and network meta-analysis within a frequentist framework using a random-effects model, except for rare event outcomes where we will use a fixed-effects Mantel-Haenszel method. We will investigate potential sources of heterogeneity in subgroup analyses. Reporting bias will be assessed with funnel plots and the Risk of Bias due to Missing Evidence in Network meta-analysis (ROB-MEN) tool. The certainty in the evidence will be evaluated using the Confidence in Network Meta-analysis (CINeMA) approach.
DISCUSSION
Our network meta-analysis would provide an up-to-date synthesis of the evidence from all available RCTs on the comparative efficacy and safety of NIBS for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. This information could guide evidence-based clinical practice and improve the outcomes of patients.
