IT/IS Outsourcing in Large Companies - Motivations and Risks

Companies can outsource Information Technologies (IT) /Information Systems (IS) at various scales, from a small percentage of services to the entire range of services that they need. Outsourcing is associated to a set of motivations related to perceived benefits, but it also has inherent risks. This paper discusses the main results of a survey carried out to determine several aspects of outsourcing practice in large companies. Neste contexto, o desenvolvimento eficiente de projetos de sistemas de informação apresenta-se como um fator particularmente decisivo para o sucesso de uma organização. A gestão de projetos tem recebido uma considerável atenção por parte da comunidade académica e profissional da área, mas a maior parte dos estudos realizados são focados nos projetos in-house. No entanto, verifica-se que as empresas recorrem cada vez mais ao outsourcing das suas atividades, incluindo o desenvolvimento de sistemas de informação, aparecendo o outsourcing como um passo natural na evolução do negócio. Ainda que a gestão de projetos de sistemas de informação veja a sua importância reconhecida, frequentemente os resultados dos investimentos traduzem-se em frustrações e ficam longe de corresponder às expectativas, o que revela a necessidade crescente de respostas mais eficazes por parte da gestão de projetos, mais adequadas à nova realidade. Apesar de existirem importantes contributos para o aperfeiçoamento e a otimização do trabalho dos gestores de projetos, não se encontra um modelo de suporte às suas atividades que seja suficientemente desenvolvido e focado no recurso ao outsourcing, e que permita otimizar e sistematizar esta prática, de modo a consequentemente melhorar o sucesso no desenvolvimento destes projetos. Tendo presente este problema, e perante a sua relevância estratégica, económica e social, a finalidade principal do presente trabalho de investigação centra-se na procura de soluções que contribuam para a melhoraria do sucesso deste tipo de projetos. A proposta de um framework – o ISOPM - que reúne as atividades consideradas mais relevantes para a gestão de projetos de outsourcing de sistemas de informação constitui assim o objetivo principal deste trabalho, procurando-se contribuir para o estudo e a evolução da gestão de projetos desta natureza nas organizações.IT is considered essential for the competitiveness of organizations, and its adoption should be framed by the overall strategy of the organization and requires intelligent use, so that they can generate benefits. In this context, efficient development of information systems projects presents itself as a particularly decisive factor for the success of organizations. Project management has received considerable attention from the academic community and practitioners in this field, but most of these studies are focused on in-house projects, where developers and users are members from the same organization. However, companies are increasingly outsourcing their activities, including the information systems development, and outsourcing seems to be seen a natural step in the business evolution. In spite of the information systems project management importance be recognized, the results of investments often translate into frustration and are far from meeting expectations, which reveals the growing need for more effective responses by the project management: responses that are more appropriate to this new reality. Although there are important contributions towards the improvement and optimization of the project managers work there isn’t any model to support their activities, sufficiently developed and focused on the use of outsourcing. Such a model would allow the optimization and systematization of this practice, proving the successful development of these projects. Mindful of this problem, and in face of its strategic, economic and social importance, the main purpose of this research was to find solutions to improve the success of such projects. The proposal of a framework – ISOPM – that combines the activities seen as most relevant for the projects management involving the information systems outsourcing is therefore the main objective of this work, aiming to contribute to the study and development of this variety of project management in organizations

DIZZINESS VR: APLICAÇÃO DE TÉCNICAS DE REALIDADE VIRTUAL NO AUXÍLIO DO TRATAMENTO DA TONTURA EM JOVENS UNIVERSITÁRIOS

A tecnologia em saúde vem sendo incorporada no fazer clínico de diversos profissionais, devido a sua versatilidade e amplas possibilidades de atuação. Na Fonoaudiologia, o uso da tecnologia perpassa suas diversas áreas e, no que concerne a sua ação nos transtornos do equilíbrio, sabe-se que os profissionais realizam o uso de aplicativos para o tratamento e prognóstico da tontura por meio da realidade virtual. Os jogos utilizados estimulam e influenciam a plasticidade neuronal, propiciando a recuperação de funções, além de melhorias relacionadas aos aspectos físicos e emocionais. O Dizziness VR é um aplicativo que propõe auxílio no tratamento da tontura, por meio da potencialização do reflexo vestibulo-ocular (RVO), que permitea interação mediada por óculos de realidade virtual em três cenários lúdicos (Carros, Luzes e Cidade). Por meio de uma avaliação realizada por instrumentos específicos, buscou-se avaliar os impactos do uso desta tecnologia no tratamento da tontura. Observou-se que as interações foram capazes de impactar na diminuição dos sintomas referenciados

Animated Pedagogical Agent in the Intelligent Virtual Teaching Environment

This paper presents the evolution description and relevance of IVTE- Intelligent Virtual Teaching Environment project in terms of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence in Education field. Furthermore, it describes the importance of Multi-agents modeling used in the IVTE software and also gives emphasis in the Cognitive Agent Model represented by an Animated Pedagogical Agent. The purpose of IVTE software is to educate children to preserve the environment. The IVTE software is implemented with Multi-agent (MAS) and Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) technology, which gives more adaptable information to the teaching process. The adaptable information is promoted by Tutor of ITS or, in other words, by Animated Pedagogical Agent. The Animated Pedagogical Agent monitors, guides and individualizes the learning process using student model and teaching strategies.
