The main objective is to gain a better understanding of how perceived risk effects the purchase decision and what steps a selling organization can take to address risk and increase its ability to obtain capital equipment orders

Holding OSCE states accountable for implementing human dimension commitments: the role of National Human Rights Institutions in independent evaluation reporting

All states participating in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have committed themselves to human rights and democracy norms. In the OSCE there is currently no regular, country-based system to monitor the implementation of these commitments. Therefore Switzerland initiated an independent evaluation of national implementation during its OSCE chairmanship in 2014. Germany consolidated this process in 2016. With this paper, the German Institute for Human Rights wants to share its experiences with the evaluation process and give food for thought on how other National Human Rights Institutions can make use of it

Human trafficking in Germany: strengthening victim's human rights

The first study - "A human rights approach against human trafficking - International obligations and the status of implementation in Germany" - analyses how the prohibition of human trafficking and the resulting state obligations are anchored in human rights. The more recent specialised international agreements on human trafficking and law-making in the European Union are then presented. The emphasis is on the Council of Europe Convention, which professes to treat human trafficking in a human rights context. The study summarizes elements of a human rights approach against human trafficking and makes recommendations for further development of policies. The second study - "Compensation and remuneration for trafficked persons in Germany" - investigates how trafficked persons can be assisted in asserting their claims against perpetrators for compensation and remuneration and their claims against the state for compensation. The legal framework, particularly wage and compensation claims, is analysed and impediments to their practical implementation are shown. Key players from the state and civil society who come into contact with trafficked persons are identified, along with the need for advanced training and potential partners for cooperation

Our team was challenged to design an assisted living (AL) facility for county residents with dementia when their condition ultimately prevents their continued participation in the Nacogdoches Treatment Center\u27s (NTC) Day Activity Program. The NTC is a non-profit facility founded in 1972. Its mission is to provide needed services that are not being met by the community. With the new facility, patients may transition seamlessly from the daily program to a permanent living space, surrounded by familiar faces and loving care

Nach dem zweiten "Kopftuchbeschluss" des Bundesverfassungsgerichts: Schule als Ort religiöser und weltanschaulicher Freiheit und Vielfalt

Das Bundesverfassungsgericht stärkte im Frühjahr 2015 mit seiner Entscheidung die individuelle Religionsfreiheit von Lehrenden und billigte das Tragen von religiösen Kleidungsstücken und Symbolen. Mit dem vorliegenden "aktuell" gibt das Deutsche Institut für Menschrechte menschenrechtliche Hinweise für die Überarbeitung des Schulrechts in den Bundesländern. Insbesondere plädiert das Institut dafür, stets auf das individuelle Verhalten von Lehrkräften im Einzelfall abzustellen, statt durch Verordnungsermächtigungen präventive Verbote religiöser Bekleidung für bestimmte Schulen oder Schulbezirke zu ermöglichen. Zudem wirbt es dafür, dem Geist des Grundgesetzes entsprechend die öffentlichen Schulen als Orte religiöser und weltanschaulicher Pluralität zu stärken

Deutschland im Universal Periodic Review (UPR) - von der Pflicht zur Kür

Im Mai 2013 findet zum zweiten Mal im Menschenrechtsrat der Vereinten Nationen eine Überprüfung Deutschlands im UPR (Universal Periodic Review) statt. Deutschland sollte seine UPR-Überprüfung außen- und innenpolitisch als menschenrechtspolitisches Gestaltungsinstrument nutzen. Dies kann der Bundestag vorantreiben, indem er sich aktiv in alle Phasen des Verfahrens einbringt. Mit dem aktuell "Deutschland im Universal Periodic Review (UPR) - Von der Pflicht zur Kür. Empfehlungen an den Deutschen Bundestag" von Petra Follmar-Otto wendet sich das Institut an Parlamentarierinnen und Parlamentarier. Das Papier informiert über den Ablauf des Verfahrens und macht Vorschläge, wie die parlamentarische Gestaltungs- und Kontrollfunktion in allen Phasen des UPR-Verfahrens gestärkt werden kann

Ein derzeit verhandelter Gesetzentwurf der Bundesregierung sieht Schritte zur Stärkung der Rechte von Betroffenen vor. Mit der im Entwurf zugleich vorgesehenen Erhöhung der Ehebestandszeit läuft er jedoch Gefahr, dieses Ziel zu konterkarieren
