The Geant4 Hadronic Verification Suite for the Cascade Energy Range

A Geant4 hadronic process verification suite has been designed to test and optimize Geant4 hadronic models in the cascade energy range. It focuses on quantities relevant to the LHC radiation environment and spallation source targets. The general structure of the suite is presented, including the user interface, stages of verification, management of experimental data, event generation, and comparison of results to data. Verification results for the newly released Binary cascade and Bertini cascade models are presented.Comment: Talk from the 2003 Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics (CHEP03), La Jolla, Ca, USA, March 2003, 5 pages, LaTeX, 3 eps figures. Examining School Accountability: Discriminating Schools\u27 A-F Report Card Grades

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many school accountability systems that rely on student-level achievement data. Many states encountered uncertainty about how to meet federal accountability requirements without typical school data. Prior research provides evidence that student achievement is correlated to students’ social background, which raises concerns about the predictive bias of accountability systems. This mixed-methods study (a) examines the predictive ability of non-achievement-based variables (i.e., students’ social background) on school districts\u27 report card letter grade in Ohio, and (b) explores educators\u27 perceptions of report card grades. Results suggest that social background and community demographic variables have a significant impact on measures of school accountability

The Precursors and Products of Justice Climates: Group Leader Antecedents and Employee Attitudinal Consequences

Drawing on the organizational justice, organizational climate, leadership and personality, and social comparison theory literatures, we develop hypotheses about the effects of leader personality on the development of three types of justice climates (e.g., procedural, interpersonal, and informational), and the moderating effects of these climates on individual level justice- attitude relationships. Largely consistent with the theoretically-derived hypotheses, the results showed that leader (a) agreeableness was positively related to procedural, interpersonal and informational justice climates, (b) conscientiousness was positively related to a procedural justice climate, and (c) neuroticism was negatively related to all three types of justice climates. Further, consistent with social comparison theory, multilevel data analyses revealed that the relationship between individual justice perceptions and job attitudes (e.g., job satisfaction, commitment) was moderated by justice climate such that the relationships were stronger when justice climate was high

    Intracardiac Phonocardiography in Subaortic Stenosis

The purpose of this study is to explore the value of intracardiac sound recordings for the verification of subaortic stenosis. Intracardiac sound was measured in ten patients with subaortic obstructions. Seven had idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, two had a subvalvular membrane, and one had a subvalvular tunnel. In each patient, a systolic murmur was recorded within the left ventricle distal to the obstruction. The murmur was of lower amplitude distal to the aortic valve, and it was of even lower amplitude or absent proximal to the obstruction. In the presence of entrapment, no intraventricular murmur occurred although an apparent subvalvular pressure gradient was observed. The identification and localization of the maximal intensity of a systolic murmur in the ventricular outflow tract may assist in the verification of a subvalvular obstruction and help distinguish between artifactual pressure gradients and gradients indicative of subvalvular stenosis

Assessment of the Orifice Area of Bioprosthetic Valves by Orifice-View Roentgenography

Orifice-view angiography permits us to visualize en face the orifice of the aortic or mitral valve. The radiopaque annulus of bioprosthetic valves assists in permitting the angiographer to position the patient exactly, so that the valve can be seen as if looking directly into the orifice. Orifice-view angiography of porcine bioprosthetic valves has been useful in assessing the size and configuration of the valve orifice. It can reveal a failure of leaflet opening that would indicate degeneration, even when hemodynamic measurements remain equivocal

TASK HANDOFF BETWEEN HUMANS AND AUTOMATION

    Get PDF
The Department of Defense (DOD) seeks to incorporate human-automation teaming to decrease human operators’ cognitive workload, especially in the context of future vertical lift (FVL). Researchers created a “wizard of oz” study to observe human behavior changes as task difficulty and levels of automation increased. The platform used for the study was a firefighting strategy software game called C3Fire. Participants were paired with a confederate acting as an automated agent to observe the participant’s behavior in a human-automation team. The independent variables were automation level (within; low, medium, high) and queuing (between; uncued, cued). The dependent variables were the number of messages transmitted to the confederate, the number of tasks embedded in those messages (tasks handed off), and the participant’s self-reported cognitive workload score. The study results indicated that as the confederate increased its scripted level of automation, the number of tasks handed off to automation increased. However, the number of messages transmitted to automation and the subjective cognitive workload remained the same. The study’s findings suggest that while human operators were able to bundle tasks, cognitive workload remained relatively unchanged. The results imply that the automation level may have less impact on cognitive workload than anticipated.Major, United States ArmyCaptain, United States ArmyCaptain, United States ArmyCaptain, United States ArmyCaptain, United States ArmyApproved for public release. Development of Integrated Programs for Aerospace-Vehicle Design (IPAD)

    Get PDF
Integrated Programs for Aerospace Vehicle Design (IPAD) system design requirements are given. The information is based on the IPAD User Requirements Document (D6-IPAD-70013-D) and the Integrated Information Processing Requirements Document (D6-IPAD-70012-D). General information about IPAD and a list of the system design requirements that are to be satisfied by the IPAD system are given. The system design requirements definition is to be considered as a baseline definition of the IPAD system design requirements

Fairness, envy, guilt and greed: building equity considerations into agency theory

    Get PDF
In this article we examine the extent to which fairness considerations are salient to senior executives, and consider the implications for agency theory, tournament theory and the design of top-management incentives. We look for patterns in a unique data set of senior executive preferences and seek explanations for these patterns using a model of fairness first advanced by Fehr and Schmidt in 1999. We propose a number of amendments to Fehr and Schmidt’s model. We challenge some of the standard tenets of agency theory and tournament theory, demonstrating why equity considerations should be taken into account. We add to the growing literature on behavioural agency theory
