Evaluation of plasma neurotransmitters in children living with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

    Get PDF
This study aimed to ascertain the underlying neuro-biochemical imbalances that exist in children with ADHD by assessing the plasma levels of dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, γ aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate. Moreover, it investigated the potential effects of PUFA and vitamins supplementation as an alternative therapy to modulate the levels of these neurotransmitters and the overall clinical status of ADHD patients. The study included 40 ADHD patients, aged 4-6 years. The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-5) test has been employed to diagnose patients with ADHD and the severity of symptoms was assessed using the Arabic version of Conners' Parent Rating Scale. Additionally, patients were assessed using the Arabic versions of Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children (M.I.N.I. Kid) and Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, 5th Edition (SB5). Recruited patient received nutritional supplement of semi-solid diet containing 1000 mg PUFA with selected vitamins once daily for six months. The evaluation of ADHD symptoms and levels of neurotransmitters has been carried out at pre-/post-intervention stage. Post-nutrition intervention assessment, there was a significant increase in dopamine, norepinephrine, GABA levels (p-value < 0.0001) with significant decrease in glutamate level (p-value < 0.0001) when compared to their correspondent pre-intervention levels. Symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity were significantly improved after 6 months nutrition intervention program (p-value<0.001). Therefore, supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins could be considered more extensively in therapy of ADHD patients particularly those who are less than 6 years old

(l,q)(l,q)-Deformed Grassmann Field and the Two-dimensional Ising Model

In this paper we construct the exact representation of the Ising partition function in the form of the SLq(2,R) SL_q(2,R)-invariant functional integral for the lattice free (l,q)(l,q)-fermion field theory (l=q=1l=q=-1). It is shown that the (l,q)(l,q)-fermionization allows one to re-express the partition function of the eight-vertex model in external field through functional integral with four-fermion interaction. To construct these representations, we define a lattice (l,q,s)(l,q,s)-deformed Grassmann bispinor field and extend the Berezin integration rules to this field. At l=q=1,s=1l=q=-1, s=1 we obtain the lattice (l,q)(l,q)-fermion field which allows us to fermionize the two-dimensional Ising model. We show that the Gaussian integral over (q,s)(q,s)-Grassmann variables is expressed through the (q,s)(q,s)-deformed Pfaffian which is equal to square root of the determinant of some matrix at q=±1,s=±1q=\pm 1, s=\pm 1.Comment: 24 pages, LaTeX; minor change

On two-point boundary correlations in the six-vertex model with DWBC

The six-vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions (DWBC) on an N x N square lattice is considered. The two-point correlation function describing the probability of having two vertices in a given state at opposite (top and bottom) boundaries of the lattice is calculated. It is shown that this two-point boundary correlator is expressible in a very simple way in terms of the one-point boundary correlators of the model on N x N and (N-1) x (N-1) lattices. In alternating sign matrix (ASM) language this result implies that the doubly refined x-enumerations of ASMs are just appropriate combinations of the singly refined ones.Comment: v2: a reference added, typos correcte

Bulk correlation functions in 2D quantum gravity

We compute bulk 3- and 4-point tachyon correlators in the 2d Liouville gravity with non-rational matter central charge c<1, following and comparing two approaches. The continuous CFT approach exploits the action on the tachyons of the ground ring generators deformed by Liouville and matter ``screening charges''. A by-product general formula for the matter 3-point OPE structure constants is derived. We also consider a ``diagonal'' CFT of 2D quantum gravity, in which the degenerate fields are restricted to the diagonal of the semi-infinite Kac table. The discrete formulation of the theory is a generalization of the ADE string theories, in which the target space is the semi-infinite chain of points.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure

Polynomial Identities, Indices, and Duality for the N=1 Superconformal Model SM(2,4\nu)

    Get PDF
We prove polynomial identities for the N=1 superconformal model SM(2,4\nu) which generalize and extend the known Fermi/Bose character identities. Our proof uses the q-trinomial coefficients of Andrews and Baxter on the bosonic side and a recently introduced very general method of producing recursion relations for q-series on the fermionic side. We use these polynomials to demonstrate a dual relation under q \rightarrow q^{-1} between SM(2,4\nu) and M(2\nu-1,4\nu). We also introduce a generalization of the Witten index which is expressible in terms of the Rogers false theta functions.Comment: 41 pages, harvmac, no figures; new identities, proofs and comments added; misprints eliminate

Level-0 structure of level-1 Uq(sl^2)U_q(\widehat{sl}_2)-modules and Macdonald polynomials

The level-11 integrable highest weight modules of Uq(sl^2)U_q(\widehat{sl}_2) admit a level-00 action of the same algebra. This action is defined using the affine Hecke algebra and the basis of the level-11 module generated by components of vertex operators. Each level-11 module is a direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducible level-00 modules, whose highest weight vector is expressed in terms of Macdonald polynomials. This decomposition leads to the fermionic character formula for the level-11 modules.Comment: 22 pages, LaTeX 2.09 (and amsfonts preferably). (Minor corrections

    Nonplanar integrability at two loops

In this article we compute the action of the two loop dilatation operator on restricted Schur polynomials that belong to the su(2) sector, in the displaced corners approximation. In this non-planar large N limit, operators that diagonalize the one loop dilatation operator are not corrected at two loops. The resulting spectrum of anomalous dimensions is related to a set of decoupled harmonic oscillators, indicating integrability in this sector of the theory at two loops. The anomalous dimensions are a non-trivial function of the 't Hooft coupling, with a spectrum that is continuous and starting at zero at large N, but discrete at finite N.Comment: version to appear in JHE

Renormalization group flow with unstable particles

    Get PDF
The renormalization group flow of an integrable two dimensional quantum field theory which contains unstable particles is investigated. The analysis is carried out for the Virasoro central charge and the conformal dimensions as a function of the renormalization group flow parameter. This allows to identify the corresponding conformal field theories together with their operator content when the unstable particles vanish from the particle spectrum. The specific model considered is the SU(3)2SU(3)_{2}-homogeneous Sine-Gordon model.Comment: 5 pages Latex, 3 figure

Matching three-point functions of BMN operators at weak and strong coupling

The agreement between string theory and field theory is demonstrated in the leading order by providing the first calculation of the correlator of three two-impurity BMN states with all non-zero momenta. The calculation is performed in two completely independent ways: in field theory by using the large-NN perturbative expansion, up to the terms subleading in finite-size, and in string theory by using the Dobashi-Yoneya 3-string vertex in the leading order of the Penrose expansion. The two results come out to be completely identical.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur
