Introduction: This study intends to show that the current widely used computer-aided detection (CAD) may be helpful, but it is not an adequate replacement for the human input required to interpret mammograms accurately. However, this is not to discredit CAD’s ability but to further encourage the adoption of artificial intelligence-based algorithms into the toolset of radiologists. Methods: This study will use Hologic (Marlborough, MA, USA) and General Electric (Boston, MA, USA) CAD read images provided by patients found to be Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) 6 from 2019 to 2020. In addition, patient information will be pulled from our institution’s emergency medical record to confirm the findings seen in the pathologist report and the radiology read. Results: Data from a total of 24 female breast cancer patients from January 31st 2019 to April 31st 2020, was gathered from our institution’s emergency medical record with restrictions in patient numbers due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Within our patient population, CAD imaging was shown to be statistically significant in misidentifying breast cancer, while radiologist interpretation still proves to be the most effective tool. Conclusion: Despite a low sample size due to COVID-19, this study found that CAD did have significant difficulty in differentiating benign vs. malignant lesions. CAD should not be ignored, but it is not specific enough. Although CAD often marks cancer, it also marks several areas that are not cancer. CAD is currently best used as an additional tool for the radiologist

Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis in a Pediatric Male

Significant eosinophilia is a prominent feature in Churg-Strauss syndrome but has not been described in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) in a pediatric patient. We present a biopsy case that confirmed granulomatosis with polyangiitis with significant eosinophilia \u3e 30% on the initial presentation. Etiologies that could account for eosinophilia were excluded during workup. The patient\u27s presentation of pulmonary alveolar hemorrhage, conjunctivitis arthritis, high-titer cytoplasmic antineutrophil, PR3-ANCA antibodies, and cytoplasmic antibodies (cANCA) was consistent with a clinical picture of atypical GPA in a pediatric patient. This case presents a rare opportunity not only due to GPA’s low incidence in the pediatric population but due to the unusual nature of significant eosinophilia in GPA

Self-concept is one of the most researched constructs within the framework of educational psychology, psychology of the personality, and social psychology. Self-concept can be defined as the perception that an individual has of him or herself, with contents that are both descriptive, as well as evaluative 1. In the field of sport and exercise, physical selfconcept is also considered playing a considerable role in sports performance 2. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between sports practice, cardiovascular fitness and physical self-concept in adolescents.Ciencias de la Actividad Física y del Deport

Coherent states for compact Lie groups and their large-N limits

The first two parts of this article surveys results related to the heat-kernel coherent states for a compact Lie group K. I begin by reviewing the definition of the coherent states, their resolution of the identity, and the associated Segal-Bargmann transform. I then describe related results including connections to geometric quantization and (1+1)-dimensional Yang--Mills theory, the associated coherent states on spheres, and applications to quantum gravity. The third part of this article summarizes recent work of mine with Driver and Kemp on the large-N limit of the Segal--Bargmann transform for the unitary group U(N). A key result is the identification of the leading-order large-N behavior of the Laplacian on "trace polynomials."Comment: Submitted to the proceeding of the CIRM conference, "Coherent states and their applications: A contemporary panorama.

ABSTRACT - Despite improvements in healthcare interventions, the incidence of adverse events and other patient safety problems constitutes a major contributor to the global burden of diseases and a concern for Public Health. In the last years there have been some successful individual and institutional efforts to approach patient safety issues in Portugal, unless such effort has been fragmented or focused on specific small areas. Long-term and global improvement has remained elusive, and most of all the improvement of patient safety in Portugal, must evaluate not only the efficacy of a change but also what was effective for implementing the change. Clearly, patient safety issues result from various combinations of individual, team, organization, system and patient factors. A systemic and integrated approach to promote patient safety must acknowledge and strive to understand the complexity of work systems and processes in health care, including the interactions between people, technology, and the environment. Safety errors cannot be productively attributed to a single human error. Our objective with this paper is to provide a brief overview of the status quo in patient safety in Portugal, highlighting key aspects that should be taken into account in the design of a strategy for improving patient safety. With these key aspects in mind, policy makers and implementers can move forward and make better decisions about which changes should be made and about the way the needed changes to improve patient safety should be implemented.

A new approach to bacterial colony morphotyping by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight-based mass spectrometry

Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry has been explored as a tool to bacterial colony morphotyping. To this end, four colony morphotypes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and four of Staphylococcus aureus were analysed using intact bacteria. Results suggest that mass spectrometry of intact bacteria could,in some extent,be used to complement the classical morphological classification of bacteria.Financial support from IBB-CEB and Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (FCT) and European Community fund FEDER, through Program COMPETE, in the ambit of the FCT project "PTDC/SAU-SAP/113196/2009/ FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-016012" and Ana Margarida Sousa PhD grant (SFRH/BD/72551/2010), is gratefully acknowledged. ATXN1 N-terminal region explains the binding differences of wild-type and expanded forms

Background Wild-type (wt) polyglutamine (polyQ) regions are implicated in stabilization of protein-protein interactions (PPI). Pathological polyQ expansion, such as that in human Ataxin-1 (ATXN1), that causes spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1), results in abnormal PPI. For ATXN1 a larger number of interactors has been reported for the expanded (82Q) than the wt (29Q) protein. Methods To understand how the expanded polyQ affects PPI, protein structures were predicted for wt and expanded ATXN1, as well as, for 71 ATXN1 interactors. Then, the binding surfaces of wt and expanded ATXN1 with the reported interactors were inferred. Results Our data supports that the polyQ expansion alters the ATXN1 conformation and that it enhances the strength of interaction with ATXN1 partners. For both ATXN1 variants, the number of residues at the predicted binding interface are greater after the polyQ, mainly due to the AXH domain. Moreover, the difference in the interaction strength of the ATXN1 variants was due to an increase in the number of interactions at the N-terminal region, before the polyQ, for the expanded form. Conclusions There are three regions at the AXH domain that are essential for ATXN1 PPI. The N-terminal region is responsible for the strength of the PPI with the ATXN1 variants. How the predicted motifs in this region affect PPI is discussed, in the context of ATXN1 post-transcriptional modifications.Xunta de Galicia | Ref. ED481B 2016/068–0Xunta de Galicia | Ref. The south region of Brazil was responsible for 80.3% of total pork meat export in the country in 2015 (2), with the state of Paraná accountable for 21% of the total pork meat production in that year. Pig farming represented 5.7% of the agricultural gross income of the state in 2016, and the Campos Gerais region accounted for 13.2% of that amount (2). Wild boars are the result of crossbreeding between boars (Sus scrofa scrofa) and domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus). The total population of free-living wild boars in Brazil is unknown (11), but sightings are common in the crop fields and near livestock farms of different regions of Paraná state, including in Campos Gerais (9). The health status of pig herds is important in terms of maintenance and growth of pork production and exports and there are evidences that domestic pigs and wild boars share vulnerabilities in certain viral and bacterial pathogen infections (12). Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhyo) is a bacterial pathogen that causes porcine enzootic pneumonia, an economically important disease that affects both domestic pigs and wild boars. Mhyo was first isolated in 1965, simultaneously in the United Kingdom (UK) and in the United States of America (USA) (3; 7). Economic losses related to this pathogen and mycoplasmal pneumonia in pig herds are associated with decreased feed efficiency, reduced average of the daily weight gain, and increased medication costs. Thus, knowing the health status of free-living wild boars in the regards of this pathogen is important for the biosecurity of the pork production. The aim of this study was to investigate antibodies against Mhyo in serum samples of free-living wild boars in Campos Gerais region
