Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition from lattice sine-Gordon model
We obtain nonperturbative results on the sine-Gordon model using the lattice
field technique. In particular, we employ the Fourier accelerated hybrid Monte
Carlo algorithm for our studies. We find the critical temperature of the theory
based autocorrelation time, as well as the finite size scaling of the
"thickness" observable used in an earlier lattice study by Hasenbusch et al.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures. Proceedings contribution to 35th International

Dynamics of Ideological Biases of Social Media Users
Humanity for centuries has perfected skills of interpersonal interactions and
evolved patterns that enable people to detect lies and deceiving behavior of
others in face-to-face settings. Unprecedented growth of people's access to
mobile phones and social media raises an important question: How does this new
technology influence people's interactions and support the use of traditional
patterns? In this paper, we answer this question for homophily driven patterns
in social media. In our previous studies, we found that, on a university
campus, changes in student opinions were driven by the desire to hold popular
opinions. Here, we demonstrate that the evolution of online platform-wide
opinion groups is driven by the same desire. We focus on two social media:
Twitter and Parler, on which we tracked the political biases of their users. On
Parler, an initially stable group of right-biased users evolved into a
permanent right-leaning echo chamber dominating weaker, transient groups of
members with opposing political biases. In contrast, on Twitter, the initial
presence of two large opposing bias groups led to the evolution of a bimodal
bias distribution, with a high degree of polarization. We capture the movement
of users from the initial to final bias groups during the tracking period. We
also show that user choices are influenced by side-effects of homophily. The
users entering the platform attempt to find a sufficiently large group whose
members hold political bias within the range sufficiently close to the new
user's bias. If successful, they stabilize their bias and become a permanent
member of the group. Otherwise, they leave the platform. We believe that the
dynamics of users uncovered in this paper create a foundation for technical
solutions supporting social groups on social media and socially aware networks.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, submitted to IEEE Communications Magazin
Dados epidemiológicos de 7 anos de lesões traumáticas dentárias e alveolares numa população do Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte, Hospital Santa Maria
Introdução: O dano corporal significa a diminuição somato-psíquica do lesado.
Introduction: Body damage means the somato-psychic decrease of the injured person. Expert evidence is crucial in order to determine the permanent functional deficits that result from it in terms of Civil and Labor Law, through the Table of Disabilities, or in terms of Criminal Law, through the period of illness.
Objectives: Epidemiological characterization of dentoalveolar lesions in a population at Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte.
Materials and Methods: In this clinical, observational and retrospective study, 28064 files of patients who resorted to the Stomatology Service, in an episode of urgency, that occurred between 2016-2022 were analyzed. The criterion for inclusion of processes in the sample was the presence of dentoalveolar trauma. Data collection was in accordance with protocol 385/21 submitted to the Ethics Committee of the Centro Académico de Medicina de Lisboa and was carried out by an observer using the Microsoft Excel ® program, version 16.74. Confidence intervals were analyzed using IBM SPSS®, version 29.0.
Results and Discussion: The sample consisted of 1678 patients, 1042 male and 636 female. Males and individuals younger than 10 years were the most affected. The year 2017 registered a greater number of cases, with falls being the main etiology, with statistically significant differences in relation to the rest. There is a statistically significant relationship between the variables etiology/sex and etiology/age. Fracture was the most common injury, affecting mainly the anterior teeth, with statistically significant differences occurring between the maxillary anterior teeth and the remaining teeth. The most affected locations were the incisal edge and enamel+dentin, revealing statistically significant differences in relation to the remaining locations. The most applied treatment was immobilization, analgesics were frequently prescribed and soft and cold diet was the most indicated postoperative care.
Conclusions: Males and school-aged children have a higher incidence of dentoalveolar trauma. Enamel fracture is the most frequent injury occurring, mostly, in the anterior teeth
Axial Computorizada (TAC) ou a Ressonância Magnética (RM).The epileptic seizures are the most common neurological disease in the dog and cat.
A seizure is a paroxysmal transient episode of excessive and / or synchronous neuronal
activity in the cerebral cortex, resulting in a variety of clinical manifestations.
The objective was to study a sample of pets (52 dogs and cats), in a situation of
convulsions, and try to make a specific diagnosis that would allow determine the most
appropriate therapy for each case. The method used was a descriptive analysis as a result of
collecting a medical history, a physical and neurological examination as complete as possible.
Of the 52 animals considered, it was not possible to reach a definitive etiological
diagnosis in only 19. This result comes from a gap in the specific knowledge of this disease
by the Veterinarians, being addressed, may allow greater success in getting a diagnosis and
optimize the choice of the most appropriate treatment. On the other hand, it was observed that
for very correct that is the approach and the prognosis made, the financial availability of the
owners is an obstacle to the realization of fundamental tests to reach the correct diagnosis,
such as Computerized Axial Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Comparative case study
Abstract:
Every organization should be concerned about analyzing its quality costs, since that analysis, besides allowing identification of aspects to improve is a fundamental tool for the management organs of those organizations. This analysis of quality costs should also be carried out on firms’ activities related to their fiscal practice. However, no reference is found in the literature to the relationship between these two: quality costs and business taxation.
This research analyzes the relationship between the principles of quality costs and business taxation in Portugal. So being, and to carry out this study, the case study methodology was chosen, more specifically the comparative case study methodology, through the understanding, and previous demonstration, that it is the most appropriate methodology for the complexity of the subject analyzed.
Besides relating quality costs to business taxation, this study allowed presentation and application of a methodology for implementing the Prevention – Appraisal – Failure (PAF) model in companies’ fiscal practice which decreases the costs of this practice, reach the economic level of quality as well as an efficiency index, which allows at any time to determine the achieved level of efficiency and how to improve it.
All in all, what this study demonstrated is that Portuguese companies, in general, do not apply the principles of quality costs to their taxation department or fiscal practice, whether that activity is performed internally in the firm or externally
