Unparticle inspired corrections to the Gravitational Quantum Well
We consider unparticle inspired corrections of the type
to the Newtonian potential in the context of the
gravitational quantum well. The new energy spectrum is computed and bounds on
the parameters of these corrections are obtained from the knowledge of the
energy eigenvalues of the gravitational quantum well as measured by the GRANIT
experiment.Comment: Revtex4 file, 4 pages, 2 figures and 1 table. Version to match the

Scattering states of a particle, with position-dependent mass, in a double heterojunction
In this work we obtain the exact analytical scattering solutions of a
particle (electron or hole) in a semiconductor double heterojunction -
potential well / barrier - where the effective mass of the particle varies with
position inside the heterojunctions. It is observed that the spatial dependence
of mass within the well / barrier introduces a nonlinear component in the plane
wave solutions of the continuum states. Additionally, the transmission
coefficient is found to increase with increasing energy, finally approaching
unity, whereas the reflection coefficient follows the reverse trend and goes to
zero.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Arbitrary l-state solutions of the rotating Morse potential by the asymptotic iteration method
For non-zero values, we present an analytical solution of the radial
Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the rotating Morse potential using the Pekeris
approximation within the framework of the Asymptotic Iteration Method. The
bound state energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions are obtained
for a number of diatomic molecules and the results are compared with the
findings of the super-symmetry, the hypervirial perturbation, the
Nikiforov-Uvarov, the variational, the shifted 1/N and the modified shifted 1/N
expansion methods.Comment: 15 pages with 1 eps figure. accepted for publication in Journal of

On Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau particles with a mixed minimal-nonminimal vector coupling and the nondegenerate bound states for the one-dimensional inversely linear background
The problem of spin-0 and spin-1 bosons in the background of a general mixing
of minimal and nonminimal vector inversely linear potentials is explored in a
unified way in the context of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory. It is shown that
spin-0 and spin-1 bosons behave effectively in the same way. An orthogonality
criterion is set up and it is used to determine uniquely the set of solutions
as well as to show that even-parity solutions do not exist.Comment: 10 page
The Energy Eigenvalues of the Two Dimensional Hydrogen Atom in a Magnetic Field
In this paper, the energy eigenvalues of the two dimensional hydrogen atom
are presented for the arbitrary Larmor frequencies by using the asymptotic
iteration method. We first show the energy eigenvalues for the no magnetic
field case analytically, and then we obtain the energy eigenvalues for the
strong and weak magnetic field cases within an iterative approach for
and states for several different arbitrary Larmor frequencies. The
effect of the magnetic field on the energy eigenvalues is determined precisely.
The results are in excellent agreement with the findings of the other methods
and our method works for the cases where the others fail.Comment: 13 pages and 5 table
Semirelativistic Hamiltonians and the auxiliary field method
Approximate analytical closed energy formulas for semirelativistic
Hamiltonians of the form are obtained within
the framework of the auxiliary field method. This method, which is equivalent
to the envelope theory, has been recently proposed as a powerful tool to get
approximate analytical solutions of the Schr\"odinger equation. Various shapes
for the potential are investigated: power-law, funnel, square root, and
Yukawa. A comparison with the exact results is discussed in detail
Extension of Nikiforov-Uvarov Method for the Solution of Heun Equation
We report an alternative method to solve second order differential equations
which have at most four singular points. This method is developed by changing
the degrees of the polynomials in the basic equation of Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU)
method. This is called extended NU method for this paper. The eigenvalue
solutions of Heun equation and confluent Heun equation are obtained via
extended NU method. Some quantum mechanical problems such as Coulomb problem on
a 3-sphere, two Coulombically repelling electrons on a sphere and hyperbolic
double-well potential are investigated by this method
Analytical solutions of the Schr\"{o}dinger equation with the Woods-Saxon potential for arbitrary state
In this work, the analytical solution of the radial Schr\"{o}dinger equation
for the Woods-Saxon potential is presented. In our calculations, we have
applied the Nikiforov-Uvarov method by using the Pekeris approximation to the
centrifugal potential for arbitrary states. The bound state energy
eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions are obtained for various values of
and quantum numbers.Comment: 14 page
Scattering states of a particle, with position-dependent mass, in a symmetric heterojunction
The study of a particle with position-dependent effective mass (pdem), within
a double heterojunction is extended into the complex domain --- when the region
within the heterojunctions is described by a non Hermitian
symmetric potential. After obtaining the exact analytical solutions, the
reflection and transmission coefficients are calculated, and plotted as a
function of the energy. It is observed that at least two of the characteristic
features of non Hermitian symmetric systems --- viz., left / right
asymmetry and anomalous behaviour at spectral singularity, are preserved even
in the presence of pdem. The possibility of charge conservation is also
discussed.Comment: 12 pages, including 6 figures; Journal of Physics A : Math. Theor.

What is Amphidinolide V? Report on a Likely Conquest
The awesome power of metathesis is reflected in the synthesis of the proposed structure of the cytotoxic natural product amphidinolide V, as well as of all other stereomers containing a trans-epoxide unit. It can be concluded from the comprehensive data set obtained that the 8S,9R,10R,13S-configured compound 1 most likely represents amphidinolide V, even though a single resonance in the 1H NMR spectrum deviates from the reported value
