The author has identified the following significant results. The most significant ADP result was the modification of the DAM package to produce classified printouts, scaled and registered to U.S.G.S., 71/2 minute topographic maps from LARSYS-type classification files. With this modification, all the powerful scaling and registration capabilities of DAM become available for multiclass classification files. The most significant results with respect to image interpretation were the application of mapping techniques to a new, more complex area, and the refinement of an image interpretation procedure which should yield the best results
Evidence for a very slow X-ray pulsar in 2S0114+650 from RXTE All-Sky Monitor Observations
Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All-Sky Monitor (ASM) observations of the
X-ray binary 2S0114+650 show modulations at periods close to both the optically
derived orbital period (11.591 days) and proposed pulse period (~ 2.7 hr). The
pulse period shows frequency and intensity variability during the more than 2
years of ASM observations analyzed. The pulse properties are consistent with
this arising from accretion onto a rotating neutron star and this would be the
slowest such period known. The shape of the orbital light curve shows
modulation over the course of the entire orbit and a comparison is made with
the orbital light curve of Vela X-1. However, the expected phase of eclipse,
based on an extrapolation of the optical ephemeris, does not correspond with
the observed orbital minimum. The orbital period derived from the ASM light
curve is also slightly longer than the optical period.Comment: To be published in the Astrophysical Journal, 1999, volume 511. 9

Recent advances in exciton based quantum information processing in quantum dot nanostructures
Recent experimental developments in the field of semiconductor quantum dot
spectroscopy will be discussed. First we report about single quantum dot
exciton two-level systems and their coherent properties in terms of single
qubit manipulations. In the second part we report on coherent quantum coupling
in a prototype "two-qubit" system consisting of a vertically stacked pair of
quantum dots. The interaction can be tuned in such quantum dot molecule devices

The Robinson-Trautman Type III Prolongation Structure Contains K
The minimal prolongation structure for the Robinson-Trautman equations of
Petrov type III is shown to always include the infinite-dimensional,
contragredient algebra, K, which is of infinite growth. Knowledge of
faithful representations of this algebra would allow the determination of

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory Annual Site Environmental Report for Calendar Year 1996
The results of the 1996 environmental surveillance and monitoring program for the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) are presented and discussed. The purpose of this report is to provide the US Department of Energy and the public with information on the level of radioactive and nonradioactive pollutants, if any, that are added to the environment as a result of PPPL's operations. During Calendar Year 1996, PPPL's Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) continued to conduct fusion experiments. Having set a world record on November 2, 1994, by achieving approximately 10.7 million watts of controlled fusion power during the deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasma experiments, researchers turned their attention to studying plasma science experiments, which included ''enhanced reverse shear techniques.'' Since November 1993, more than 700 tritium-fueled experiments were conducted, which generated more than 4 x 10(superscript 20) neutrons and 1.4 gigajoules of fusion energy. In 1996, the overall performance of Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory was rated ''excellent'' by the US Department of Energy in the Laboratory Appraisal report issued in early 1997. The report cited the Laboratory's consistently excellent scientific and technological achievements and its successful management practices, which included high marks for environmental management, employee health and safety, human resources administration, science education, and communications. Groundwater investigations continued under a voluntary agreement with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. PPPL monitored for the presence of nonradiological contaminants, mainly volatile organic compounds (components of degreasing solvents) and petroleum hydrocarbons (past leaks of releases of diesel fuel from underground storage tanks). Also, PPPL's radiological monitoring program characterized the ambient, background levels of tritium in the environment and from the TFTR stack; the data are presented in this report. During 1996, PPPL completed the removal of contaminated soil from two locations that were identified through the monitoring program: petroleum hydrocarbons along a drainage swale and chromium adjacent to the cooling tower
Finite Euler Hierarchies And Integrable Universal Equations
Recent work on Euler hierarchies of field theory Lagrangians iteratively
constructed {}from their successive equations of motion is briefly reviewed. On
the one hand, a certain triality structure is described, relating arbitrary
field theories, {\it classical\ts} topological field theories -- whose
classical solutions span topological classes of manifolds -- and
reparametrisation invariant theories -- generalising ordinary string and
membrane theories. On the other hand, {\it finite} Euler hierarchies are
constructed for all three classes of theories. These hierarchies terminate with
{\it universal\ts} equations of motion, probably defining new integrable
systems as they admit an infinity of Lagrangians. Speculations as to the
