Securitize Me: Stimulating Renewable Energy Financing by Embracing the Capital Markets
The current system of financing renewable energy projects is broken and inadequate, especially when compared to the framework for participating in oil and gas ventures. The solution lies in borrowing accepted energy business practices and adapting them to solar and wind energy projects. This Article focuses on the current issues facing renewable energy project financing in the United States, analyzes failed attempts to stimulate growth, and presents the securitization of renewable energy assets as a solution. Drawing on current legal structure and debates from the corporate sphere, this Article also discusses specific securitization techniques that can help to democratize and grow investment in renewable energy projects
Depressive symptoms predict callous-unemotional behavior in adjudicated adolescent males with conduct disorder
Depressive symptoms were examined in a sample of adjudicated adolescent males with conduct disorder and callous-unemotional behavior as measured by the Inventory of Callous-Unemotional Traits (ICU), the Antisocial Process Screening Device (APSD) and the Youth Psychopathy Inventory (YPI). Results indicate that contrary to previous findings, depressive symptoms, as measured by the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale — 2 (RADS-2) are, indeed, present in callous-unemotional youth and significantly predict callous-unemotional behavior in this sample of male adolescents. In addition, dysphoria was negatively associated with callous-unemotional behavior whereas somatic complaints were positively associated with it. These findings suggest that the restricted affective displays in youth with callous-unemotional behavior may, in part, be related to a depressive process. In addition, somatic complaints were significantly related to impulsivity consistent with findings that depressive symptoms independently predict impulsivity in adolescents
On arithmetic and asymptotic properties of up-down numbers
Let , where , and let
denote the number of permutations of whose
up-down signature , for .
We prove that the set of all up-down numbers can be expressed by
a single universal polynomial , whose coefficients are products of
numbers from the Taylor series of the hyperbolic tangent function. We prove
that is a modified exponential, and deduce some remarkable congruence
properties for the set of all numbers , for fixed . We prove a
concise upper-bound for , which describes the asymptotic behaviour
of the up-down function in the limit .Comment: Recommended for publication in Discrete Mathematics subject to

Do resources, justice administration practices and federalism have an impact on registered and sentenced crime prevalence?
This contribution, based on a statistical approach, undertakes to link data on resources (personnel and financial means) and the working of the administration of penal justice (prosecution, sentencing) taking into account the nationality of those prosecuted. In order to be able to distinguish prosecution and sentencing practices of judicial authorities and possible processes of discrimination, diverse sources have been used such as data from court administrations, public finances and police forces, collected by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office and the Swiss Federal administration of finances. The authors discuss discrimination in prosecution and sentencing between Swiss residents and foreigners taking into account localization and resources regarding personnel and public finances
Observation of Entanglement Between Itinerant Microwave Photons and a Superconducting Qubit
A localized qubit entangled with a propagating quantum field is well suited
to study non-local aspects of quantum mechanics and may also provide a channel
to communicate between spatially separated nodes in a quantum network. Here, we
report the on demand generation and characterization of Bell-type entangled
states between a superconducting qubit and propagating microwave fields
composed of zero, one and two-photon Fock states. Using low noise linear
amplification and efficient data acquisition we extract all relevant
correlations between the qubit and the photon states and demonstrate
entanglement with high fidelity.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
