The effective bandwidth problem revisited
The paper studies a single-server queueing system with autonomous service and
priority classes. Arrival and departure processes are governed by marked
point processes. There are buffers corresponding to priority classes,
and upon arrival a unit of the th priority class occupies a place in the
th buffer. Let , denote the quota for the total
th buffer content. The values are assumed to be large, and
queueing systems both with finite and infinite buffers are studied. In the case
of a system with finite buffers, the values characterize buffer
capacities.
The paper discusses a circle of problems related to optimization of
performance measures associated with overflowing the quota of buffer contents
in particular buffers models. Our approach to this problem is new, and the
presentation of our results is simple and clear for real applications.Comment: 29 pages, 11pt, Final version, that will be published as is in

Two-Dimensional Dilaton-Gravity Coupled to Massless Spinors
We apply a global and geometrically well-defined formalism for
spinor-dilaton-gravity to two-dimensional manifolds. We discuss the general
formalism and focus attention on some particular choices of the dilatonic
potential. For constant dilatonic potential the model turns out to be
completely solvable and the general solution is found. For linear and
exponential dilatonic potentials we present the class of exact solutions with a
Killing vector.Comment: 21 pages, LaTeX, minor changes in text and format, final version to

Global generalized solutions for Maxwell-alpha and Euler-alpha equations
We study initial-boundary value problems for the Lagrangian averaged alpha
models for the equations of motion for the corotational Maxwell and inviscid
fluids in 2D and 3D. We show existence of (global in time) dissipative
solutions to these problems. We also discuss the idea of dissipative solution
in an abstract Hilbert space framework.Comment: 27 pages, to appear in Nonlinearit
Observation of Kink Instability as Driver of Recurrent Flares in AR 10960
We study the active region NOAA 10960, which produces two flare events (B5.0,
M8.9) on 04 June 2007. We find the observational signature of right handed
helical twists in the loop system associated with this active region. The first
B5.0 flare starts with the activation of helical twist showing ~3 turns.
However, after ~20 minutes another helical twist (with ~2 turns) appears, which
triggers M8.9 flare. Both helical structures were closely associated with a
small positive polarity sunspot in the AR. We interpret these observations as
evidence of kink instability, which triggers the recurrent solar flares.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for the Publication in Advances in

Beginning of the End of Cost Competitiveness in CEE Countries - Analysis of Dependence between Labor Costs and Internationalization of the Region
In order to exemplify the above econometric model I carried out empirical analysis of the companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, identifying the companies for which efficiency-seeking is the main internationalization motive. The analysis of internationalization of 26 companies during the years 1990-2010 clearly shows that a significant part of investments is located outside the territory of Poland, in the countries with lower labor costs. This fact confirms that CEE countries will gradually become less and less attractive in terms of costs not only for MNEs from developed countries but also for the companies originating from transition economies.Głównym celem artykułu jest weryfikacja, czy niski poziom kosztów pracy w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej będący do tej pory jednym z czynników wpływających na konkurencyjność tego regionu pozostanie nim w dłuższej perspektywie czasowej. W pracy na podstawie próby wszystkich państw UE zbadano zależność pomiędzy poziomem internacjonalizacji (stan odpływu BIZ per capita) a kosztami pracy w sektorze przedsiębiorstw i GNP per capita. Fakt ten potwierdza powolny spadek konkurencyjności kosztowej polskiej gospodarki, tym samym zmusza do poszukiwania nowych rozwiązań instytucjonalnych mogących utrzymać konkurencyjność polskiej gospodarki w długim okresie
The enhancement of phase separation aspect in electron doped manganite Ca0.8Sm0.16Nd0.04MnO3
The complex lanthanide doping of electron manganites results in enhancement
of various phase separation effects in physical properties of these compounds.
Selecting Ca0.8Sm0.16Nd0.04MnO3 as a model case we show that the first order
structural phase transition from paramagnetic semi-metallic phase into
anti-ferromagnetic semi-metallic phase at TS ~ 158 +- 4 K is marked by an
abrupt decrease in magnetization, a step like anomaly DL/L = 10-4 in thermal
expansion and large latent heat DQ = 610 J/mol. In a certain temperature range
below TS, the high field magnetization exhibits hysteretic metamagnetic
behavior due to field-induced first order transformation. ac-susceptibility,
magnetization and resistivity data suggest rather a non-uniform state in
Ca0.8Sm0.16Nd0.04MnO3 at low temperatures. The metal - insulator transition
occurs at TMI ~112 +- 3 K, accompanied by a step-like increase in
magnetization. These features could be ascribed to "sponging" of electrons from
neighboring anti-ferromagnetic matrix by clusters undergoing the ferromagnetic
ordering.Comment: submitted to J.Phys. Cond. Matte
Equivalence of -bosons using the exponential phase operator
Various forms of the -boson are explained and their hidden symmetry
revealed by transformations using the exponential phase operator. Both the
one-component and the multicomponent -bosons are discussed. As a byproduct,
we obtain a new boson algebra having a shifted vacuum structure and define a
global operatal gauge transformation.Comment: 18 pages, LaTex(run twice), To appear in J. PHys.
Constructing Self-Dual Strings
We present an ADHMN-like construction which generates self-dual string
solutions to the effective M5-brane worldvolume theory from solutions to the
Basu-Harvey equation. Our construction finds a natural interpretation in terms
of gerbes, which we develop in some detail. We also comment on a possible
extension to stacks of multiple M5-branes.Comment: 1+19 pages, presentation improved, minor corrections, published

Invariants of Lie algebras extended over commutative algebras without unit
We establish results about the second cohomology with coefficients in the
trivial module, symmetric invariant bilinear forms and derivations of a Lie
algebra extended over a commutative associative algebra without unit. These
results provide a simple unified approach to a number of questions treated
earlier in completely separated ways: periodization of semisimple Lie algebras
(Anna Larsson), derivation algebras, with prescribed semisimple part, of
nilpotent Lie algebras (Benoist), and presentations of affine Kac-Moody
algebras.Comment: v3: added a footnote on p.10 about a wrong derivation of the correct
