Be+Sn scattering at near-barrier energies within a four body model
Cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of the weakly-bound
Be nucleus on a Sn target have been measured at seven bombarding
energies around and above the Coulomb barrier. The elastic angular
distributions are analyzed with a four-body continuum-discretized
coupled-channels (CDCC) calculation, which considers Be as a three-body
projectile ( + + n). An optical model analysis using the S\~ao
Paulo potential is also shown for comparison. The CDCC analysis shows that the
coupling to the continuum part of the spectrum is important for the agreement
with experimental data even at energies around the Coulomb barrier, suggesting
that breakup is an important process at low energies. At the highest incident
energies, two inelastic peaks are observed at 1.19(5) and 2.41(5) MeV.
Coupled-channels (CC) calculations using a rotational model confirm that the
first inelastic peak corresponds to the excitation of the 2 state in
Sn, while the second one likely corresponds to the excitation of the
3 state.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures. Accepted as PR
Absolute measurement of the GANIL beam energy
The energy of the GANIL cyclotron beam was measured on-line during the Pb-208 + Pb-208 elastic scattering experiment ''Search for Color van der Waals Force in the Pb-208 + Pb-208 Mott scattering'' with an absolute precision of 7 x 10(-5) at approximately 1.0 GeV, which represents an improvement of one order of magnitude over previous absolute energy measurements. The energy was deduced from the time of flight between two beam-scanners, which only partially intercept the beam, situated on a straight line and separated by approximately 48.0 m. It was found that the nominal beam energy was in good agreement with the present results
Search for color van der Waals force in Pb+Pb Mott scattering
In a high precision experiment, Mott scattering of the 208Pb+108Pb system was measured at Elab=873.40 MeV and 1129.74 MeV with kinematic coincidences for angle pairs around θlab=30°, 60° and θlab=45°, 45°. The observed Mott oscillations exhibit an angular shift with respect to pure Mott scattering. A comparison with the angular shift produced by a color van der Waals force including nuclear polarizability, vacuum polarization, relativistic effects, and electronic screening provides a new upper limit for the strength of this force. Influence of atomic effects other than screening were identified for the first time
Be 9 + Sn 120 scattering at near-barrier energies within a four-body model
Cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of the weakly bound Be9 nucleus on a Sn120 target have been measured at seven bombarding energies around and above the Coulomb barrier. The elastic angular distributions are analyzed with a four-body continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) calculation, which considers Be9 as a three-body projectile (α+α+n). An optical model analysis using the São Paulo potential is also shown for comparison. The CDCC analysis shows that the coupling to the continuum part of the spectrum is important for the agreement with experimental data even at energies around the Coulomb barrier, suggesting that breakup is an important process at low energies. At the highest incident energies, two inelastic peaks are observed at 1.19(5) and 2.41(5) MeV. Coupled-channels (CC) calculations using a rotational model confirm that the first inelastic peak corresponds to the excitation of the 21+ state in Sn120, while the second one likely corresponds to the excitation of the 31- state.Fil: Arazi, Andres.
