VERTICAL POWER-FORCE-VELOCITY PROFILING: RELIABILITY COMPARISON OF MULITPLE- AND TWO-POINT METHODS
Power-Force-velocity (P-F-v) profiling is an approach used for performance diagnostics to assess an athleteâs anaerobic performance level. The aim of the study was to determine and compare the test-retest reliability of the 5p-method and the 2p-method for a group of sport students. With respect to the 2p-method this was the first study to determine the reliability using an independent data-set for vertical jumps. Acceptable reliability (ICC \u3e 0.78, CV \u3c 7.6%, no significant differences) was obtained for the variables F0, v0 and Pmax obtained through the 5p-method. Using the 2p-method acceptable reliability was just found for the variables F0 and Pmax. Therefore, the use of the 5p-method is recommended for performance diagnostics and derived individualized training regimes based on these P-F-v profiling results, as well as for research on this topic involving populations similar to sport students
CRITERION VALIDITY OF THE LOWER LIMB ISOKINETIC POWER-FORCE-VELOCITY PROFILING PARAMETERS IN ELITE ATHLETES
The purpose of this study was to investigate the criterion validity of isokinetic leg press Power-Force-velocity (P-F-v) parameters. Forty elite athletes with diverse sporting backgrounds performed a maximal vertical squat jump test and an isokinetic leg press P-F-v profile test. The isokinetic leg press P-F-v profile consisted of leg-extension against 4 given velocity conditions: 0.1, 0.3, 0.7, and 1.2 m/s. Criterion validity was evaluated using correlation between squat jump height and each isokinetic P-F-v parameter (F0, v0, Pmax and, Sfv). Nearly âgoodâ (r \u3e 0.815) correlations were found for Pmax, whereas correlations between the remaining P-F-v parameters ranged from âpoorâ to âimpracticalâ (r = 0.702â 0.159). This result may fit the previous assumption of P-F-v profiles, that individuals express variable contributions of F0 and v0 for similar Pmax values. Consequently evaluating criterion validity for these parameters (F0 and v0) is likely difficult would be contrary to this P-F-v assumption
How large manufacturing firms understand the impact of digitization: ALearning Perspective
Digitization is currently one of the major factors changing society and the business world. Most research focused on the technical issues of this change, but also employees and especially the way how they learn changes dramatically. In this paper, we are interested in exploring the perspectives of decision makers in huge manufacturing companies on current challenges in organizing learning and knowledge distribution in digitized manufacturing environments. Moreover, we investigated the change process and challenges of implementing new knowledge and learning processes. To this purpose, we have conducted 24 interviews with senior representatives of large manufacturing companies from Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Our exploratory study shows that decision makers perceive significant changes in work practice of manufacturing due to digitization and they currently plan changes in organizational training and knowledge distribution processes in response. Due to the lack of best practices, companies focus very much on technological advancements. The delivery of knowledge just-in-time directly into work practice is a favorite approach. Overall, digital learning services are growing and new requirements regarding compliance, quality management and organisational culture arise
Frauen zeigen signifikant
gröĂeres Interesse an gesundheitsorientierter Bewegung als MĂ€nner.
Bei den Bewegungseinheiten wird eine Gemeinschaft gebildet. Die Wichtigkeit des sozialen
Austauschs zeigt keine Geschlechtsunterschiede. Niedrig qualifizierte Personen bewerten
Wohlbefindens.Gainful employment allows people the social participation and satisfaction of tangible and
intangible needs. Job loss can have a negative bio-psycho-social impact on a person's
health. Unemployment causes loss of social position and identity. The loss of daily routine
and the reduction of social contacts induce harmful isolation. Unemployment isnÂŽt free time.
Job seekers tend to physical, mental and social inactivity. This multiple health impairment
decreases individual resources and leads to increased risk factors. In order to help this target
group, only a few programs for tackling this health inequalities are realized.
The good practice model âFit-Start - Health-enhancing Physical Activity for job-seekerâ,
supported by âFonds Gesundes Ăsterreichâ and âFit fĂŒr Ăsterreichâ wants to improve the
state of health with group-oriented physical activities. The physical activity lessons, which are
free of charge, enhance social networking, self-efficacy, as well as physical and mental
performance.
The empirical investigation shows that these physical activity lessons are rated as very
important. Women are significantly more interested in group oriented health enhancing
physical activities than men.
The activity lessons form a sense of community. Gender plays no role in how social
interaction is received. For lower skilled participants, the social exchange is very important.
There is also no difference between genders in regards to the implementation of a daily
routine. People with a lower level of education are the ones who benefit most from making
exercise a daily habit.
The data shows that external recommendations have little influence for the participation.
Voluntary and low threshold physical fitness exercises for job seekers are a useful social
intervention for enhancing overall health and well-being
Open science- who is left behind?
Open Access initiatives promise to extend access to scholarly conversations. However, the dominant model of Article Processing Charges, whilst lowering financial barriers for readers, has merely erected a new paywall at the other end of the pipeline, blocking access to publication for less-privileged authors. In this post, Tony Ross-Hellauer, Angela Fessl, and Thomas Klebel, ask ... Continue
KINEMATICS CHANGE IN COUNTERMOVEMENT JUMPS WITH ADDITIONAL LOADS
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sex and additional load during countermovement jumps on hip, knee, and ankle joint kinematics. For this purpose, a total of 25 female and male participants performed barbell-loaded countermovement jumps with up to 80% of body mass. No significant main effect of sex on any of the kinematic parameters was found. The additional load resulted in a significant decrease in hip, knee, and ankle joint angles in the sagittal plane and an increase of the absolute performance time. Significant differences were also found in the frontal and transverse plane kinematics. Hence, since changes in kinematics of all three anatomical planes could increase the risk of injury, they should be closely monitored

A review of the introduced smooth-billed ani Crotophaga ani in GalĂĄpagos
The smooth-billed ani (Crotophaga ani) is a widespread introduced bird species in the biologically important archipelago of GalĂĄpagos. Many scientists and local people consider it to be a damaging invasive, and it is possible that it impacts native species and ecosystems via multiple mechanisms. However, evidence for this is largely anecdotal and research on smooth-billed anis in GalĂĄpagos is limited. Despite this, there have been repeated attempts to control or eradicate the population over the past few decades, all without long-term success. These attempts continue, but no official plan of action regarding this species currently exists. This review brings together all available information on smooth-billed anis in GalĂĄpagos. We use both published and unpublished research to answer the following questions:1.What is known about the history of the smooth-billed anis' introduction to GalĂĄpagos?2.What are the possible impacts of smooth-billed anis in GalĂĄpagos?3.What attempts have been undertaken to control or eradicate smooth-billed anis in GalĂĄpagos and what were their outcomes? In answering these questions, we highlight numerous knowledge gaps, in both the current understanding of the impacts of this introduced species and the effectiveness of potential control or eradication methods. We find an urgent need for further research before considered, resource-efficient decisions can be made regarding smooth-billed anis in GalĂĄpagos
