The modulated spin liquid: a new paradigm for URu2_2Si2_2

We argue that near a Kondo breakdown critical point, a spin liquid with spatial modulations can form. Unlike its uniform counterpart, we find that this occurs via a second order phase transition. The amount of entropy quenched when ordering is of the same magnitude as for an antiferromagnet. Moreover, the two states are competitive, and at low temperatures are separated by a first order phase transition. The modulated spin liquid we find breaks Z4Z_4 symmetry, as recently seen in the hidden order phase of URu2_2Si2_2. Based on this, we suggest that the modulated spin liquid is a viable candidate for this unique phase of matter.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Field-theoretical renormalization group for a flat two-dimensional Fermi surface

We implement an explicit two-loop calculation of the coupling functions and the self-energy of interacting fermions with a two-dimensional flat Fermi surface in the framework of the field theoretical renormalization group (RG) approach. Throughout the calculation both the Fermi surface and the Fermi velocity are assumed to be fixed and unaffected by interactions. We show that in two dimensions, in a weak coupling regime, there is no significant change in the RG flow compared to the well-known one-loop results available in the literature. However, if we extrapolate the flow to a moderate coupling regime there are interesting new features associated with an anisotropic suppression of the quasiparticle weight Z along the Fermi surface, and the vanishing of the renormalized coupling functions for several choices of the external momenta.Comment: 16 pages and 22 figure

Efficient Strategies for Graph Pattern Mining Algorithms on GPUs

Graph Pattern Mining (GPM) is an important, rapidly evolving, and computation demanding area. GPM computation relies on subgraph enumeration, which consists in extracting subgraphs that match a given property from an input graph. Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have been an effective platform to accelerate applications in many areas. However, the irregularity of subgraph enumeration makes it challenging for efficient execution on GPU due to typical uncoalesced memory access, divergence, and load imbalance. Unfortunately, these aspects have not been fully addressed in previous work. Thus, this work proposes novel strategies to design and implement subgraph enumeration efficiently on GPU. We support a depth-first search style search (DFS-wide) that maximizes memory performance while providing enough parallelism to be exploited by the GPU, along with a warp-centric design that minimizes execution divergence and improves utilization of the computing capabilities. We also propose a low-cost load balancing layer to avoid idleness and redistribute work among thread warps in a GPU. Our strategies have been deployed in a system named DuMato, which provides a simple programming interface to allow efficient implementation of GPM algorithms. Our evaluation has shown that DuMato is often an order of magnitude faster than state-of-the-art GPM systems and can mine larger subgraphs (up to 12 vertices).Comment: Accepted for publication on IEEE 34th International Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing (SBAC-PAD'22

01.13745-1).bitstream/CNPDIA/8723/1/CT54_2003.pd

Bioreduction of substituted a-tetralones promoted by Daucus carota root

The bioreduction of a series of substituted a-tetralones, carried out using Daucus carota root (carrot), afforded the corresponding homochiral a-tetralols in variable conversions (9 to 90%) and excellent enantiomeric excesses. Two of the assayed a-tetralones were resistant to the bioreduction conditions. The absolute configurations of four a-tetralols were assigned as being (S), by comparison to the (S)-enantiomers obtained by kinetic resolution promoted by CALB-catalysed acetylation. Additionally, the new 5-methoxy-6-methyl-1-tetralone was synthesized in seven steps from 3-methylsalicylic acid.FAPESPCoordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES)CNP

Abstract: This study provides information about the effect of chronic ingestion of a decoction of Bauhinia forficata on the behavior of rats. The aim of this study was to investigate the exploratory activity, anxiety level, and blood glucose of healthy rats submitted to prolonged treatment with a decoction of B. forficata. Twenty male rats, aged two months and weighing approximately 145g were randomly distributed into two groups. The Bauhinia group freely ingested a decoction of B.forficata for 4 weeks, while the control group received water. Body weight, food and fluid intake, and glycemic index were quantified. The open field (OF) and elevated plus maze (EPM) tests were applied at the end of the experiment. Data were analyzed by Student?s t test for unpaired samples, with a significance level of P<0.05. The results of the EPM test were analyzed by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and blood glucose by the Bonferroni test. There were no significant differences in body weight, food intake or glycemic index between the Bauhinia and control groups. Net liquid intake was higher in the Bauhinia group. EPM results did not differ between groups, but in the OF test, the frequencies of rearing and locomotion were lower and immobility time was increased for rats in the Bauhinia group. In conclusion, B. forficata reduced exploratory activity and did not alter blood glucose in healthy rats

ABSTRACT:The objective was to estimate the growth curves and genetic parameters using random regression methodology for Nellore cattle raised in Pantanal, MS, Brazil (6974 calves; n = 53,233 weights), with at least four weighings per individual. The model considered direct and maternal genetic additives and maternal permanent environmental effects at random. Orthogonal Legendre polynomials of cubic order were used to fit the growth curve. Analyses of variance were performed using the GLM procedure. The model used contained the fixed effects of sex, year of birth, farm, and the covariates calf birth month (linear and quadratic) and cow age at calving (linear and quadratic). The adjusted mean weight at 120 days of age was 93.43 ± 19.78 kg, and for 205 days of age, it was 180.42 ± 26.58 kg. Animals born in the dry season had a higher average weight [kg] (219.57 vs. 211.78, 3.7% higher) and, consequently, had higher weights at 646 days of age. Estimates of direct heritabilities (h2a) ranged from 0.35 to 0.75 (high magnitudes), and maternal heritabilities (h2m) along the trajectory of low magnitudes ranged from 0.03 to 0.08, respectively. The use of random regression to evaluate beef animals allows for adjusting the growth curve and selecting the best animals to be the parents of future generations.

A Novel Approach for Bisphosphonates: Ionic Liquids and Organic Salts from Zoledronic Acid

    Get PDF
Novel ionic liquids and organic salts based on mono- or dianionic zoledronate and protonated superbases, choline and n-alkylmethylimidazolium cations, were prepared and characterized by spectroscopic and thermal analyses. Most of the prepared salts display amorphous structures and very high solubility in water and saline solutions, especially the dianionic salts. Among the zoledronate-based ionic compounds, those containing choline [Ch] and methoxyethylmethylimidazolium [C3 OMIM] cations appear to have significant cytotoxicity against human osteosarcoma cells (MG63) and low toxicity toward healthy skin fibroblast cells. Because osteosarcoma is a bone pathology characterized by an increase in bone turnover rate, the results presented herein may be a promising starting point for the development of new ionic pharmaceutical drugs against osteosarcoma.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
