The effects of Zn Impurity on the Properties of Doped Cuprates in the Normal State
We study the interplay of quantum impurity, and collective spinon and holon
dynamics in Zn doped high-T cuprates in the normal state. The
two-dimensional t-t-J models with one and a small amount of Zn
impurity are investigated within a numerical method based on the double-time
Green function theory. We study the inhomogeneities of holon density and
antiferromagnetic correlation background in cases with different Zn
concentrations, and obtain that doped holes tend to assemble around the Zn
impurity with their mobility being reduced. Therefore a bound state of holon is
formed around the nonmagnetic Zn impurity with the effect helping Zn to
introduce local antiferromagnetism around itself. The incommensurate peaks we
obtained in the spin structure factor indicate that Zn impurities have effects
on mixing the q=(, ) and q=0 components in spin excitations.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Hybrid quantum device based on NV centers in diamond nanomechanical resonators plus superconducting waveguide cavities
We propose and analyze a hybrid device by integrating a microscale diamond
beam with a single built-in nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center spin to a
superconducting coplanar waveguide (CPW) cavity. We find that under an ac
electric field the quantized motion of the diamond beam can strongly couple to
the single cavity photons via dielectric interaction. Together with the strong
spin-motion interaction via a large magnetic field gradient, it provides a
hybrid quantum device where the dia- mond resonator can strongly couple both to
the single microwave cavity photons and to the single NV center spin. This
enables coherent information transfer and effective coupling between the NV
spin and the CPW cavity via mechanically dark polaritons. This hybrid
spin-electromechanical de- vice, with tunable couplings by external fields,
offers a realistic platform for implementing quantum information with single NV
spins, diamond mechanical resonators, and single microwave photons.Comment: Accepted by Phys. Rev. Applie
CAutoCSD-evolutionary search and optimisation enabled computer automated control system design
This paper attempts to set a unified scene for various linear time-invariant (LTI) control system design schemes, by transforming the existing concept of 'Computer-Aided Control System Design' (CACSD) to the novel 'Computer-Automated Control System Design' (CAutoCSD). The first step towards this goal is to accommodate, under practical constraints, various design objectives that are desirable in both time and frequency-domains. Such performance-prioritised unification is aimed to relieve practising engineers from having to select a particular control scheme and from sacrificing certain performance goals resulting from pre-committing to the adopted scheme. With the recent progress in evolutionary computing based extra-numeric, multi-criterion search and optimisation techniques, such unification of LTI control schemes becomes feasible, analytically and practically, and the resultant designs can be creative. The techniques developed are applied to, and illustrated by, three design problems. The unified approach automatically provides an integrator for zero-steady state error in velocity control of a DC motor, meets multiple objectives in designing an LTI controller for a non-minimum phase plant and offers a high-performing LTI controller network for a nonlinear chemical process
Optical and transport properties in doped two-leg ladder antiferromagnet
Within the t-J model, the optical and transport properties of the doped
two-leg ladder antiferromagnet are studied based on the fermion-spin theory. It
is shown that the optical and transport properties of the doped two-leg ladder
antiferromagnet are mainly governed by the holon scattering. The low energy
peak in the optical conductivity is located at a finite energy, while the
resistivity exhibits a crossover from the high temperature metallic-like
behavior to the low temperature insulating-like behavior, which are consistent
with the experiments.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. B65

The effects of disorder and interactions on the Anderson transition in doped Graphene
We undertake an exact numerical study of the effects of disorder on the
Anderson localization of electronic states in graphene. Analyzing the scaling
behaviors of inverse participation ratio and geometrically averaged density of
states, we find that Anderson metal-insulator transition can be introduced by
the presence of quenched random disorder. In contrast with the conventional
picture of localization, four mobility edges can be observed for the honeycomb
lattice with specific disorder strength and impurity concentration. Considering
the screening effects of interactions on disorder potentials, the experimental
findings of the scale enlarges of puddles can be explained by reviewing the
effects of both interactions and disorder.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Simple scheme for expanding a polarization-entangled W state by adding one photon
We propose a simple scheme for expanding a polarization-entangled W state. By
mixing a single photon and one of the photons in an n-photon W state at a
polarization-dependent beam splitter (PDBS), we can obtain an (n+1)-photon W
state after post-selection. Our scheme also opens the door for generating
n-photon W states using single photons and linear optics.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
Radiation-induced Assembly of Rad51 and Rad52 Recombination Complex Requires ATM and c-Abl
Cells from individuals with the recessive cancer-prone disorder ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) are hypersensitive to ionizing radiation (I-R). ATM (mutated in A-T) is a protein kinase whose activity is stimulated by I-R. c-Abl, a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, interacts with ATM and is activated by ATM following I-R. Rad51 is a homologue of bacterial RecA protein required for DNA recombination and repair. Here we demonstrate that there is an I-R-induced Rad51 tyrosine phosphorylation, and this induction is dependent on both ATM and c-Abl. ATM, c-Abl, and Rad51 can be co-immunoprecipitated from cell extracts. Consistent with the physical interaction, c-Abl phosphorylates Rad51 in vitro and in vivo. In assays using purified components, phosphorylation of Rad51 by c-Abl enhances complex formation between Rad51 and Rad52, which cooperates with Rad51 in recombination and repair. After I-R, an increase in association between Rad51 and Rad52 occurs in wild-type cells but not in cells with mutations that compromise ATM or c-Abl. Our data suggest signaling mediated through ATM, and c-Abl is required for the correct post-translational modification of Rad51, which is critical for the assembly of Rad51 repair protein complex following I-R
Schizophrenia is not associated with the ERBB3 gene in a Han Chinese population sample: Results from case-control and family-based studies
ERBB3 (v-erb-b2 erythroblastic leukemia viral oncogene homolog 3), encoding a receptor of neuregulin-1 (NRG1), has been considered a functional candidate gene for schizophrenia susceptibility. In order to investigate a relationship between ERBB3 gene and schizophrenia in the Chinese population, case-control and family-based studies were carried out in 470 cases matched by controls, and in 532 family trios. Our results failed to show any evidence of significant association between the ERBB3 rs2292238 polymorphism and schizophrenia
