Theoretical and experimental investigation of oil recovery by the electrothermic technique

    Get PDF
This work investigates the feasibility of increasing oil recovery from petroleum reservoirs by the electrothermic technique. A mathematical model was developed for the prediction of reservoir response to heating by alternating electric current flow through the oil-bearing formations. The mathematical model was programmed in FORTRAN for solution on the IBM 370/168. The model used the finite difference technique to represent the differential equations that describe the system, and the sets of difference equations were solved by the Strongly Implicit Procedure (SIP) and Successive Overrelaxation (SOR). In order to verify the mathematical model, a set of experiments was conducted to determine oil recovery from a five-spot laboratory model by cold waterflood and the electrothermic technique. The experimental data were compared with the numerically calculated responses. Agreement between calculated and experimental responses supports the assumptions of the mathematical model and the numerical solution procedure. The mathematical model was utilized to predict the response of single layer and double layer oil reservoirs to the electrothermic process. The results indicate that the approaches described in U.M.R. Patent Disclosure No. 7S-P-UMR-003 might be used for selectively heating the relatively undepleted portions of oil reservoirs --Abstract, page ii

Interactions Between Generations in Digital Literacy Education: A Case of Millennial Families in Suli, Central Maluku

This article addresses the issue of digital literacy as an essential basic need, yet there are still significant disparities in technology access and low digital literacy prevalent. To this end, the article explores the intergenerational interaction in digital literacy education among millennial families in Negeri Suli, Central Maluku. The aim of this research is to describe the patterns of intergenerational interaction in the context of digital literacy. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature studies from 10 millennial families in Negeri Suli. The primary informants involved 10 family members, as well as the King who serves as the village head, traditional leader, Saniri, and a teacher at SD XX school. The findings indicate that intergenerational interaction in digital literacy education encompasses imparting digital technology knowledge and skills to both the Z generations and baby boomers generations. This enables them to support previous generations in facing the digital era and strengthens intergenerational communication. The effectiveness of digital literacy education in schools was found through experiential-based teaching approaches and curriculum integration, successfully reducing generational gaps. Moreover, digital literacy is recognized as a crucial component in UNESCO's long-term plan for the future of education. Through digital literacy campaigns, family members are empowered to enhance their analytical abilities in leveraging digital technology optimally

A STUDY OF FLAMMABILITY LEAN LIMIT FOR A BLUFF BODY STABILIZED FLAME

    Get PDF
An experimental investigation has been carried out on the effect of mainstream velocity, blockage ratio, and flameholder shape on the lean limit of flammability. These tests employed different blockage ratio (0.25 and 0.5) and different shapes of bluff body (cone, flat plate, cylinder and sphere). The approach stream velocity was varied up to 15 m/s. The fuel employed was natural gas. The results showed that increasing the mainstream velocity has an adverse effect on lean limit of flammability, increasing the blockage ratio widens the range of stability for cylindrical and spherical stabilizers, but has an opposite effect in case of cone and plate, and the shape of bluff body affects the lean limit of flammability through its effect on the recirculation zone shape and size

ENHANCEMENT OF FLAMMABILITY LIMITS OF THE NATURAL GAS BY THE USE OF BLUFF BODY

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study flammability limits of the natural gas and the effect of flame holder position, in the burner tube, on it. These tests employed two shapes of bluff body: disk and cone (600 included angle) with blockage ratio of 0.42. The fuel used was natural gas and the upstream air velocity was varied up to 26 m/s. The flame holder location was varied from 12 mm inside the burner tube, with respect to the burner mouth, to 12 mm downstream and outside it (hid from -0.44 to +0.44). The results showed that the flammability limits are widened due to the use of bluff body and it depends largely on the flame holder shape and position in the burner tube. The results showed also that the best position of the flame holder is not the same for all shapes of the bluff bodies, but it depends on the shape of the flame holder and on the nature of study (lean limit or rich limit). For the lean limit of flammability, it is concluded that the best position of the flame stabilizer is at 6 mm inside the burner tube (hid = -0.22) for disk bluff body and 12 mm outside it (hid = 0.44) for the conical one. For the rich limit the best position is 6mm outside (hid = 0.22) for disk and 12mm outside also (hid = 0.44) for cone

Objective: The objective of this study was to design an effective topical treatment for oral mucositis. Methods: Poly-(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) and Poloxamer407 (PLX)/Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) hydrogel matrix (HG) were used as combined carriers for benzydamine HCL (BNZ). BNZ loaded PLGA nanoparticles were assessed for their particle size, PDI, zeta potential and entrapment efficiency. Scanning electron microscopy, thermosensitivity study, mucoadhesion study, in vitro release and in vivo investigation were used to characterize the combined BZN loaded PLGA NPs HG.Results: Negatively charged NPs with an average diameter of 139±4.92 nm were incorporated into PLX/HPMC HG bases. The gelation temperature of BZN-PLGA-NPs-HGs ranged between 31°C and 36.5°C. When diluted with saliva simulated fluid, BZN-PLGA-NPs-HGs preserved their gelation properties. Mucoadhesion was found lower for formulations prepared with PLX without HPMC. An increase in the concentrations of PLX from 10 to 30% resulted in an increase in adhesion. Both PLGA-NPs and PLGA-NPs-HG provided a biphasic drug release profile while BZN-HG provided monophasic zero order release pattern. The in vivo study showed that animal groups treated with BZN-HG and BZN-PLGA-NPs-HG showed a significantly higher reduction percentage in ulcer surface area compared to those treated with BZN-PLGA-NPs. BZN-PLGA-NPs-HG group needed 10 d of treatment to complete healing versus 16 d, 14 d and 12 d for the complete healing of groups with no treatment, treated with BZN-PLGA-NPs and treated with BZN-HG, respectively. Conclusion: BZN-PLGA-NPs-HG could represent a promising mean for the effective treatment of oral mucositis induced by cancer therapy
