Conversation Disentanglement with Bi-Level Contrastive Learning

Conversation disentanglement aims to group utterances into detached sessions, which is a fundamental task in processing multi-party conversations. Existing methods have two main drawbacks. First, they overemphasize pairwise utterance relations but pay inadequate attention to the utterance-to-context relation modeling. Second, huge amount of human annotated data is required for training, which is expensive to obtain in practice. To address these issues, we propose a general disentangle model based on bi-level contrastive learning. It brings closer utterances in the same session while encourages each utterance to be near its clustered session prototypes in the representation space. Unlike existing approaches, our disentangle model works in both supervised setting with labeled data and unsupervised setting when no such data is available. The proposed method achieves new state-of-the-art performance on both settings across several public datasets

Ocean–atmosphere coupled Pacific Decadal variability simulated by a climate model

Currently, the mechanisms for Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) are still disputed, and in particular the atmosphere response to the ocean in the mid-latitude remains a key uncertainty. In this study, we investigate two potential feedbacks—a local positive and a delayed negative—for the PDO based on a long-term control simulation using the ECHAM5/MPI-OM coupled model, which is selected because of reproduces well the variability of PDO. The positive feedback is as follows. In the PDO positive phase, the meridional sea surface temperature (SST) gradient is intensified and this strengthens the lower level atmospheric baroclinicity in the mid-latitudes, leading to the enhancement of Aleutian low and zonal wind. These atmospheric changes reinforce the meridional SST temperature gradient through the divergence of ocean surface currents. The increased heat flux loss over the anomalously warm water and decreased heat flux loss over the anomalously cold water in turn reinforce the lower atmospheric meridional temperature gradient, baroclinicity and atmospheric circulation anomalies, forming a local positive feedback for the PDO. The delayed negative feedback arises, because the intensified meridional SST gradient also generates an anticyclonic wind stress in the central North Pacific, warming the upper ocean by Ekman convergence. The warm upper ocean anomalies then propagate westward and are transported to the mid-latitudes in the western North Pacific by the western boundary current. This finally reduces the meridional SST gradient, 18 years after the peak PDO phase. These results demonstrate the significant contributions of the meridional SST gradient to the PDO’s evolution.acceptedVersio

At present, the training of engineering talents in higher education needs to carry out supply-side reform to solve the disconnection between the demand for social talents and the cultivation of talents in universities, and the phenomenon that there is a mismatch between the students' employment needs and the curriculum system of colleges and universities. The ''College, Government, Association, Research and Enterprise'' (CGARE) Collaborative Education Mode has been built to improve the quality of applied talents in the applied chemistry major of Yancheng Teachers University for nearly 10 years. Based on the "student-oriented" education concept, the collaboration of college, government, association, research and enterprise was taken as a breakthrough and the enterprise technology demand was taken as the carrier to improve the engineering practice ability and innovation and entrepreneurship ability of college students, and fully meet the needs of society and enterprises for high-quality talents in the CGARE collaborative education mode. The quality of applied talents has been improved significantly through the CGARE collaborative education mode. High-level achievements of the students of the applied chemistry major of Yancheng Teachers University are fruitful. The innovative and entrepreneurial ability and their professional self-confidence of the students have been greatly enhanced. Thus, the quality of student employments is high, and given high marks by the internship unit and employer.
