The Expert Systems Course in AACSB Accredited Business Schools

This paper presents findings of an empirical investigation of the state of expert systems (ES) curriculum development in the 279 business schools accredited by the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). One objective of this study was to determine the extent to which the introductory undergraduate ES course is being taught. A second objective was to obtain a profile of how ES is being taught. A questionnaire was developed to survey Information Systems (IS) faculty; the response rate was 41%. It was found that 48% of the schools offer an introductory undergraduate ES course. Additional highlights of the findIngs Include: 44% of the schools have an ES component as part of other business courses; one or more graduate level ES courses are offered at 45% of the business schools; at 46% of the universities an ES course is offered outside of the business school

Interdisciplinary Student Teams Projects: A Case Study

In today’s organizations team work has become an integral part of the day-to-day routine. For this reason, University professors are including group projects in many courses. In such group assessments, we advocate the use of interdisciplinary teams, where possible. As a case study, we report an interdisciplinary group technical project with members from a Master of Business Administration course and a Master of Science in Accounting course. We also describe the refinements made to the course in order to enhance the collaboration between students from two classes

Analyse des effects de la pluviometrie sur le PIB Agricole au Senegal

RESUMELe secteur agricole au Sénégal est dominé par les cultures pluviales dont l’arachide et le mil qui occupent la majeure partie des terres cultivables en hivernage. Sa contribution au PIB reste faible par rapport aux secteurs tertiaire et secondaire. Une des principales raisons de cette situation est sa forte dépendance aux conditions climatiques et notamment à la pluviométrie. Dans cette recherche nous nous proposons d’étudier l’analyse des effets de la pluviométrie sur le PIB du sous- secteur agricole au Sénégal. L’étude couvre une période de 35 ans allant de 1980 à 2015 et concerne tout le territoire national. Les résultats des tests économétriques par la technique des Moindres Carrés Ordinaires (MCO) montrent que la variation pluviométrique influence les résultats économiques du secteur agricole. L’étude montre qu’à chaque fois que la pluviométrie baisse, les productions et les valeurs économiques du mil et de l’arachide suivent la même tendance. Ainsi une bonne pluviométrie a un effet positif sur la production agricole qui à son tour influence positivement le PIB agricole. ABSTRACTANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF RAINFALL ON AGRICULTURAL GDP IN SENEGALThe agricultural sector in Senegal is dominated by rainfed crops, with groundnuts and millet occupying most of the land. Its contribution to GDP remains low compared to the tertiary and secondary sectors. One of the main reasons for this situation is its strong dependence on climatic conditions and in particular on rainfall. In this research we propose to study the analysis of the effects of rainfall on the GDP of the agricultural sub-sector in Senegal. The study covers a 35-year period from 1980 to 2015 and concerns the entire national territory. The results of econometric tests using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) technique show that rainfall variation influences the economic performance of the agricultural sector. The study shows that each time the rainfall drops, the production and economic values of millet and peanuts follow the same trend. Thus, good rainfall has a positive effect on agricultural production which in turn positively influences agricultural GDP

A Western Range Extension for Caprella scaura (Amphipoda: Caprellidae) in the Aransas Bay Ecosystem, Texas

During March 2009, the skeleton shrimp Caprella scaura and Paracaprella tenuis (Amphipoda: Caprellidae) were collected from several locations throughout the Aransas Bay, Texas ecosystem from Texas Parks and Wildlife fishery—independent trawl and oyster dredge samples. This is a western range expansion for C. scaura; P. tenuis has been reported from this area before. Both species were exclusively associated with a bryozoan, Bugula neritina. Densities of both species ranged between 0.1–3.4 individuals per gram of attached bryozoans. A reproductive population is likely established since several sizes, including adult males and gravid females, were observed. No caprellids were observed after early April, which coincided with a reduction in bryozoan occurrence in our routine monthly samples. These collections represent the first documented occurrence of C. scaura west of Florida
