    Islamic Foundations of Education: Item Analysis of a Teacher Made Test at Master Level

    This study is aimed at constructing and analyzing a researcher made Multiple Choice Test in the subject of Islamic foundations of Education. Sixty items were finalized and administered on the selected sample which consisted of the students of Education at Masters’ level in the four HEC recognized public sector universities in Pakistan i.e., Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, University of Sargodha and University of Education (Multan and Vehari campus). After pilot testing, test was administered on 385 male and female students selected through multistage sampling technique. Item analysis was performed by using classical test theory. According to discrimination and difficulty indices 8 items in Form A and 6 items in form B needed modifications because the low and high achiever students were unable to attempt those items. This study recommends that a larger size of sample should be included to attain higher reliability of the items

    Development and validation of an instrument for assessment of professional behaviour during laboratory sessions

    Objective: To develop an instrument to assess professional behaviour among medical students, and to determine its validity, reliability, feasibility and acceptability.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Bahria University Medical and Dental College, Karachi, from July to September 2017, and comprised of medical students in years 1 and 2 of their academic programme. The instrument was developed for the Physiology laboratory sessions using nominal group technique and was tested for validity, reliability, feasibility and acceptability by two assessors through validity and reliability statistics. Data was analysed using SPSS 23.Results: Of the 250 students enrolled, 232(92.8%) had their assessment completed. Applicability of the scale was indicated by exploratory factor analysis. Two factors were isolated which explained 57.65% of the variation. The first factor, comprising of 7 sub-factors, was labelled as \u27practical performance\u27, and the second factor, consisting of 5 sub-factors, as \u27personal interactions\u27. A final 12-item instrument was retained. Cronbach\u27s alpha was determined to be high at 0.863. Intra class correlation was 0.863 for both years 1 and 2 combined.Conclusions: It was possible to develop an instrument for professional behaviour assessment in Physiology laboratory skills session which could indicate valid, reliable, feasible and acceptable results

    A RESEARCH STUDY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF MEASLES AND RELATED PROTECTIVE MECHANISMS ALONG WITH RELATED CONSEQUENCES

    Background: Measles is a disorder commonly present in children. It can be protected by the proper use of vaccination. It can easily transfer from one person to another. It mostly occurred in progressing countries like Pakistan. It can even cause deaths because of its severity. Objective: The reasons causing the measles, protective mechanisms of the patients, its severe reactions and consequences were noticed. Material and Methods: We carried out this research at Jinnah Hospital, Lahore (March 2017 to February 2018). Total of 166 patients showing the symptoms of measles were admitted in the hospital. Different factors like age, gender, the standard of livelihood, the ability of self-protection and quality of food taken by the patients were completely observed. The severe conditions in measles can cause pneumonia, gastroenteritis, encephalitis, otitis media, condition after measles, dysentery and heart issues. The consequences of the patients were examined by assessing the conditions of liberation from the clinics, leave towards clinical prescription, referral and mortalities of patients. The data was examined by using SPSS. Results: Out of 166 patients 93 were men and 73 were women. The average age of the patients were (3.72 ± 2.7) years. 117 patients belong to village area and 59 belong to city areas. 150 patients were already immunized by vaccination however 9 patients were not undergone vaccination. 59 patients gained nutritious and high-quality food. But most of the patients about 107 gained a less nutritious food. Pneumonia was observed in 72 cases. Gastroenteritis was examined in 37 patients. Encephalitis was recognized in 5 patients. Post measles state was recorded in 11 cases. Most of the patients were cured completely and discharged from the hospital. While mortality was observed in 9 patients. Conclusion: Measles was mainly observed in children having the age of 1 to 5 years. These children were mostly not vaccinated. Most of the patients gaining poor nutrition were attacked by measles.     Residents’ Perception Of Surgical Theatre Educational Environment At Public Hospitals Of Rawalpindi - A Steem Survey

    INTRODUCTION: The experience in the operation theatres is pivotal for surgical education. A measure of the educational environment in the operating room as perceived by residents would assist educators and trainees in gauging the quality of the learning occurring within their institute.     METHODS:  A cross-sectional survey using the surgical theatre educational environment measure (STEEM) 40-item inventory to measure theatre learning environment perception of surgery and allied residents in public sector hospitals of Rawalpindi. Internal reliability of the inventory was assessed using the Cronbach α coefficient. P≤ 0.05 was considered significant.   RESULTS:  107 respondents were included in the study. Mean score of the survey was 133.7± 20.2. No significant differences in perception were found among residents at different stages and gender, except in learning subscale of the inventory for both gender and residents and the teaching and training subscale among residents at different levels. The inventory showed a high internal consistency with a Cronbach α of 0.851.   CONCLUSION: Surgical training and education have still a long way to go in the public sector. Much needed collaborations with education specialist and senior surgeons is required. Interval collection of feedback and perceptions of the educational environment is also necessary

    The rotational mechanism forms the basis of various cosmic and geophysical transports. In medical science, rotational blood flows have been related to healthy cardiac function. This study consists of a mathematical model representing magnetohydrodynamic effects on the two-phase pumping flow of a Ree–Eyring–Powell stress model in a rotating frame. The model is controlled by switching the system into a wave frame of reference for better analysis of the wave phenomenon. Moreover, a lubrication theory is applied to the resulting set of relations in order to get a more comprehensive form of the reduced mathematical model. In the end, an exact solution is found to discuss the substantial contents of the study. The data on velocity and stream function are presented diagrammatically to examine the theoretical behavior of various quantities under the variation of considerable physical factors. It is concluded from the graphs that axial and secondary velocities are decreasing against rotation, magnetic field, and fluid’s factor, but the same rise in the case of wall stiffness and particle concentration. In both industrial and biomedical applications, this type of flow measurement gives tomographic information on the multiphase flow process, which entails acquiring signal changes at the edges of objects like fluid pipes or blood vessels to determine how the objects are distributed within.     Cotton microbiome profiling and Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CLCuD) suppression through microbial consortia associated

    The failure of breeding strategies has caused scientists to shift to other means where the new approach involves exploring the microbiome to modulate plant defense mechanisms against Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CLCuD). The cotton microbiome of CLCuD-resistant varieties may harbor a multitude of bacterial genera that significantly contribute to disease resistance and provide information on metabolic pathways that differ between the susceptible and resistant varieties. The current study explores the microbiome of CLCuD-susceptible Gossypium hirsutum and CLCuD-resistant Gossypium arboreum using 16 S rRNA gene amplification for the leaf endophyte, leaf epiphyte, rhizosphere, and root endophyte of the two cotton species. This revealed that Pseudomonas inhabited the rhizosphere while Bacillus was predominantly found in the phyllosphere of CLCuV-resistant G. arboreum. Using salicylic acid-producing Serratia spp. and Fictibacillus spp. isolated from CLCuD-resistant G. arboreum, and guided by our analyses, we have successfully suppressed CLCuD in the susceptible G. hirsutum through pot assays. The applied strains exhibited less than 10% CLCuD incidence as compared to control group where it was 40% at 40 days post viral inoculation.     Tissue characterization of benign cardiac tumors by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, a review of core imaging protocol and benign cardiac tumors

    Generally, cardiac masses are initially suspected on routine echocardiography. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is further performed to differentiate tumors from pseudo-tumors and to characterize the cardiac masses based on their appearance on T1/T2-weighted images, detection of perfusion and demonstration of gadolinium-based contrast agent uptake on early and late gadolinium enhancement images. Further evaluation of cardiac masses by CMR is critical because unnecessary surgery can be avoided by better tissue characterization. Different cardiac tissues have different T1 and T2 relaxation times, principally owing to different internal biochemical environments surrounding the protons. In CMR, the signal intensity from a particular tissue depends on its T1 and T2 relaxation times and its proton density. CMR uses this principle to differentiate between various tissue types by weighting images based on their T1 or T2 relaxation times. Generally, tumor cells are larger, edematous, and have associated inflammatory reactions. Higher free water content of the neoplastic cells and other changes in tissue composition lead to prolonged T1/T2 relaxation times and thus an inherent contrast between tumors and normal tissue exists. Overall, these biochemical changes create an environment where different cardiac masses produce different signal intensity on their T1- weighted and T2- weighted images that help to discriminate between them. In this review article, we have provided a detailed description of the core CMR imaging protocol for evaluation of cardiac masses. We have also discussed the basic features of benign cardiac tumors as well as the role of CMR in evaluation and further tissue characterization of these tumors
