Analysis of software testing challenges in Sri Lankan context
Software products are becoming so extraordinarily adopted. Software testing is an important component of software quality assurance (QA), and many software organizations are spending up to 40% of their resources on testing. For life-critical software (e.g., flight control) testing can be highly expensive. For other software like hotel management system testing can be less expensive. But testing and an efficient quality assurance is must for all software products. Because of the importance of testing, many studies about risk analysis and software testing have been made. These term mean the probability that a software project will experience undesirable events, such as schedule delays, cost overruns, or outright cancellation. Developers deserve specific testing approaches for their verification and validation. This research paper analyses the challenges and the problems faced by software developers in testing phase of development cycle in Sri Lankan context by going through these following criteria .The challenges and on testing software applications, Actions taken by Information Technology (IT) companies to overcome those challenges, And the prediction of new ways to overcome some of software testing challenges. We have done this research by getting a survey from well experienced Quality Assurance (QA) engineers, developers and software engineers from various Information Technology (IT) companies across the Sri Lank
Effect of plant growth regulators on the quality of bast fibres in Abelmoschus esculentus (Linn.) Moench.
Abelmoschus esculentus (Linn) Moench. vernacularly variously called okra, bhindi or ladies’ fingers, is a vegetable crop and a source of soft fibre which has not been commercially exploited. The use of its fibre as an admixture with jute and also in paper and cardboard manufacture is already documented. The present investigation highlights the effect of plant growth regulators like gibberelic acid (GA) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on the quality of bast fibres in A. esculentus. The fibre quality was best in GA100 + NAA 50 g mL–1 treatment. Fibre macerate studies showed an increase in fibre length and the slenderness ratio was also high. The Runkel ratio for the above treated fibre was between 1 and 2 rendering it suitable for the textile industry. Proximate analysis of retted fibres revealed
a lower moisture and ash content and an increase in wax content. Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis registered a high crystallinity index. The physico- -mechanical properties showed considerable improvement of fibre quality. Considering the above criteria, GA100 + NAA 50 g mL–1 treatment brought about advantageous changes for improving the quality of fibres. This study is significant in promoting the exploitation of a non-conventional bast fibre source for use in textile industry
PET ANIMALS' BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS: A REVIEW
Nowadays, socializing of humans with pet animals has increased. The pet animals are treated as a part of the family and the physical interaction hasalso improved owing to the fact that the infected animals are not easily identifiable at an early stage and children are more prone to get infected. Thisleads to the necessity for monitoring and analyzing the behavior of the pet animals. The current trend is moving toward smart homes as the camerasare getting cheaper and easily available. The vision-based approach is one of the solutions to identify the behavioral changes of the pet animals. In thispaper, the study on behavioral analysis of dogs and cats as pet animals is reviewed.Â
Design of Ripple Free Single Phase Isolated Converter using DC Active Filter with Centre Tap Transformer
A ripple current reduction method is proposed that does not require additional switching devices. A current ripple that has twice the supply frequency of the power supply is generated in the dc part when a single-phase pulse width modulated inverter is used for a grid connection. The current ripple causes shortening of the lifetime of electrolytic capacitors, batteries, and fuel cells. The proposed circuit realizes a dc active filter function without increasing the number of switching devices, because the energy buffer capacitor is connected to the center tap of the isolation transformer. In addition, the buffer capacitor voltage is controlled by the common-mode voltage of the inverter. The features of the proposed circuit are described and Simulation results are presented.Simulation results proves the ripple reduction, to approximately 20% that of the conventional circuit
A successful case of rescue encerclage in the mid trimester taken upto term: a case report
Cervical encerclage has been used to treat repeated second trimester pregnancy losses. Rescue cerclage is done in cases of advanced cervical dilatation with membranes protruding into the vagina. If done correctly after proper patient selection, it can successfully prolong a nonviable pregnancy to viability. Here, we present a case report of a multiparous lady with advanced cervical dilatation at 22 weeks who had a successful rescue cerclage where the pregnancy was taken upto 38 weeks
Effect of local amendments as a partial substitute for phosphorus on soil quality
In a pot culture experiment different
organic phosphorus sources (farmyard manure,
poultry manure, vermicompost and sewage sludge)
were evaluated with standard inorganic source of
single superphosphate to improve soil nutrient content,
all applied on equal P basis @ 34 kg P2O5 ha-1. The six
treatments, including no-P (control) were replicated
four times in a CRD. Groundnut was sown in each pot.
The experimental results revealed that phosphorus
increased the post-harvest soil nutrients availability.
Highest availability of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium
and sulphur was recorded in poultry manure treatment
and sewage sludge exhibited a considerable increase in
available nitrogen and sulphur content
Application of Geographic Information System in the study of leptospiral uveitis
INTRODUCTION: Leptospirosis ,a zoonosis, caused by spirochete, that belongs to genus
leptospira.Uveitis is an important late complication of systemic illness. It
is a water - borne disease. It has a specific pattern for spread, can occur as
epidemic or endemic. Leptospirosis is worldwide distributed; more common in tropical
rural countries. India is a tropical country and with majority of
agricultural and rural population. Hence, leptospirosis is widely spread in
India. Several major epidemic out breaks have been reported in India. The
southern Indian city, Madurai and Its surrounding agricultural land is a
known endemic place for Leptospirosis. To learn the epidemiological
pattern of the Leptospiral uveitis in a hospital based population of this
district, Geographic Information System is used as a tool in this study.
In this study, we have applied GIS in mapping and analyzing the
pattern of leptospiral uveitis in Madurai district in the period of 2001-
2005. GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM: BASICS OF GIS:
GIS is a computer system designed for capturing, storing, integrating,
analyzing and displaying data from a geographic perspective
The term "Geographic Information Systems" (GIS) has been added
to mesh in 2003, a step reflecting the importance and growing use of GIS
in health and healthcare research and practices. GIS have much more to
offer than the obvious digital cartography (map) functions. From a
community health perspective, GIS could potentially act as powerful
evidence-based practice tools for early problem detection and solving2
“A new wave of technological innovation is allowing us to capture,
store, process and display an unprecedented amount of information about
our planet and a wide variety of environmental and cultural phenomena.
Much of this information will be 'geo-referenced' – that is, it will refer to
some specific place on the Earth's surface. The hard part of taking
advantage of this flood of geospatial information will be making sense of
it, turning raw data into understandable information. Former American
Vice President Al Gore. AIM AND OBJECTIVES: To study the epidemiological correlates of leptospiral uveitis in a
hospital based population belonging to Madurai district
Inclusion criteria
Patients with leptospiral uveitis belonging to Madurai district who
attended uvea dept, Aravind eye hospital, Madurai in the 5 yr period from
January 2001 – December 2005.
Exclusion Criteria
1) Patients with a history of recent migration outside Madurai district
during the acquisition of leptospirosis.
2) Patients initially considered to have leptospirosis in differential
diagnosis and later diagnosed to have some other specific disease
based on the investigation and clinical behaviour of the disease.
ANALYSIS USING GIS: Distribution of leptospiral uveitis patients in each taluk of Madurai
district was analyzed using GIS.Out of 145 cases,135 cases are taken for
GIS analysis, since the address of these 10 cases are incomplete and the
exact location of taluk they belong to could not be made out. Madurai
district is divided into following seven taluks. Madurai corporation is
included in Madurai south taluk. The following are the name of the
taluks(Map 1):
1. Madurai North
2. Madurai South
3. Melur
4. Vadipatti
5. Peraiyur
6. Thirumangalam
7. Usilampatti
DISCUSSION: Descriptive study is usually the first phase of an epidemiological
investigation. This study is concerned with observing the distribution of
the disease or disease related characteristics in human population and to
identify any associated characteristics.
This study describes the disease of interest-Leptospiral uveitis in
following headings:
•Person distribution –Age, Gender, literacy, Occupation,
Socio-economic status.
•Place distribution-Taluk-wise, village wise distribution,
Comparison with water bodies and animal distribution.
•Time distribution—comparison with year- wise rainfall
distribution. CONCLUSION: Though Madurai district as a whole is an endemic area for
leptospirosis, variations in density distribution of patients among different
taluks of Madurai have been observed in this study. It concludes that
leptospiral uveitis occurs more common in rural and agricultural
population and in places with more ratio of animal to human population.
It occurs less frequently in places where Urban and literate population
predominate. Map patterns using GIS being physically compact highlight
these correlations and provide an added dimension to this study. GIS is a
useful decision support tool for analyzing multiple themes simultaneously
and in locating the places of need. Based on the results of this study,
health education and preventive measures could be focused on the needy
places. This study could be extended for analyzing the occurrence of
systemic leptospirosis or similar other waterborne illness
A note on balancing non-Wieferich primes in arithmetic progression
In this paper, we enhance the lower bound for the number of balancing
non-Wieferich primes in arithmetic progression. In particular, for any given
integer there are balancing non-Wieferich primes
with the truth of the conjecture for the number field
. This improves the more recent result of Y. Wang and Y.
