Timbuktu’s First Private Manuscript Library
The importance of Timbuktu’s manuscript legacy for the articulation of a post-colonial African historiography cannot be overemphasized. This intellectual treasure is slowly being brought into the open through the efforts of local bibliophiles like Abdul Kader Haidara, the first person to establish a private manuscript library in Timbuktu.
