[pt] ANÁLISE DAS REAÇÕES DO SISTEMA FE-ZN ATRAVÉS DE DIFRAÇÃO DE RAIOS-X SENSÍVEL À POSIÇÃO E PROCESSAMENTO DE IMAGENS
processo envolve reações complexas, cujos mecanismos ainda
são motivo de debate. A boa performance do revestimento
está diretamente relacionada com as fases intermetálicas
presentes no revestimento final. Assim, o entendimento do
No presente trabalho, a
submetidas a diferentes tratamentos.
(2) experimentos de tratamento térmico in situ, onde a
Galvannealing is an important commercial processing
technique used to protect steel components exposed to
corrosive environments. This process involves a number of
complex reactions and their precise mechanisms are still a
matter of debate. The good performance of the coating is
closely related to the Fe-Zn intermetallic phases present
in the coating. The understanding of the mechanisms for
phase nucleation and growth during the galvannealing
process is, therefore, essential to help improving current
processes, mainly for cost reduction and new products
development. In the present study, the MAXIM (MAterials
Xrays Imaging) technique was used to identify the phases
present in previously galvanized steel samples subjected to
different annealing conditions. A diffractometer equipped
with a novel imaging system comprising a micro-channel
plate (MCP) in front of a CCD detector was used. This setup
allows positionresolved X-ray diffraction investigation of
materials, with a resolution of 12mm. The experiments
involved two sets of conditions; (1) experiments based on
the observation, at room temperature, of previously
galvannealed samples. (2) in-situ annealing experiments,
where the phase evolution was recorded in real time. It
can be concluded that MAXIM, coupled to in-situ annealing,
provides a useful method for observing the phase evolution
and distribution in galvanized/galvannealed samples. The
method is sensitive enough to detect the time/temperature
evolution of these phases, with good spatial resolution
Magnetization studies of binary and ternary Co-rich phases of the Co-Si-B system
CoB, CO(2)B, CoSi, Co(2)Si and CO(5)Si(2)B phases can be formed during heat-treatment of amorphous co-Si-B soft magnetic materials. Thus, it is important to determine their magnetic behavior as a function of applied field and temperature. In this study, polycrystalline single-phase samples of the above phases were produced via arc melting and heat-treatment under argon. The single-phase nature of the samples was confirmed via X-ray diffraction experiments. AC and DC magnetization measurements showed that Co(2)Si and CO(5)Si(2)B phases are paramagnetic. Minor amounts of either Co(2)Si or CoSi(2) in the CoSi-phase sample suggested a paramagnetic behavior of the CoSi-phase, however, it should be diamagnetic as shown in the literature. The diamagnetic behavior of the CoB phase was also confirmed. The paramagnetic behavior of CO(5)Si(2)B is for the first time reported. The magnetization results of the phase CO(2)B have a ferromagnetic signature already verified on previous NMR studies. A detailed set of magnetization measurements of this phase showed a change of the easy magnetization axis starting at 70K, with a temperature interval of about 13K at a very small field of 1 mT. As the strength of the field is increased the temperature interval is enlarged. The strength of field at which the magnetization saturates increases almost linearly as the temperature is increased above 70K. The room temperature total magnetostriction of the CO(2)B phase was determined to be 8 ppm at a field of 1T. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.FAPESP[08/07463-8
Microstructural Evidence of beta Co(2)Si- phase Stability in the Co-Si System
The aim of this work was to verify the stability of the beta Co(2)Si phase in the Co-Si system. The samples were produced via arc-melting and characterized through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). The results have confirmed the stability of the beta Co(2)Si phase, however, a modification of the shape of beta CoSi phase field is proposed in order to fully explain the results
Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of ASTM A743 CA6NM Steel Welded by FCAW Process
<div><p>CA6NM steel is widely used in the manufacture of hydraulic turbines metallic parts, due to its resistance to corrosion and cavitation damage, combined with good weldability and fatigue properties. However, welding of this type of steel is complex and to ensure a minimum residual stress after welding it is necessary perform a post welding heat treatment (PWHT) of the part. This study aims to analyze the effect of a PWHT on the microstructure and mechanical properties of CA6NM steel weld joint produced by the FCAW process and compare it with the characteristics of an as-welded joint. A martensitic microstructure has been present in both materials. However, the PWHT material has shown finely dispersed retained austenite, in an amount near 10 vol.%. Vickers microhardness values of all regions of PWHT welded joint present lower hardness values compared to those of the as-welded joint. Despite nearly identical toughness values of the weld metal from AW and PWHT samples, results of fracture analysis have shown distinct features in appearance of the fractures.</p></div
In Situ observation of phase transformations in the Fe-Zn system
In this study, the MAXIM technique was used in an attempt to clarify the phase transformation sequence that occurs during in situ annealing of galvanized samples. A diffractometer equipped with a novel imaging system comprising a Micro-Channel Plate in front of a CCD camera was used. The galvanized samples were produced under typical industrial conditions, with effective aluminum content at 0.147wt.%. In situ experiments were performed and the phase evolution was recorded in real time. It can be concluded that, coupled to in situ thermal treatment, MAXIM is an efficient method to observe the evolution of the phases present in galvannealed samples. This technique has enough sensitivity to detect the evolution of the involved phases with good spatial resolution
