Relative commutants of strongly self-absorbing C*-algebras

    Get PDF
The relative commutant A′∩AUA'\cap A^{\mathcal{U}} of a strongly self-absorbing algebra AA is indistinguishable from its ultrapower AUA^{\mathcal{U}}. This applies both to the case when AA is the hyperfinite II1_1 factor and to the case when it is a strongly self-absorbing C*-algebra. In the latter case we prove analogous results for ℓ∞(A)/c0(A)\ell_\infty(A)/c_0(A) and reduced powers corresponding to other filters on N\bf N. Examples of algebras with approximately inner flip and approximately inner half-flip are provided, showing the optimality of our results. We also prove that strongly self-absorbing algebras are smoothly classifiable, unlike the algebras with approximately inner half-flip.Comment: Some minor correction

Effect of water-jet flossing on surface roughness and color stability of dental resin-based composites

The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the effects of water-jet flossing on the color stability and surface roughness of five resin-based composites. Five commercially available composite resins were studied. Nine disc-shaped specimens (6x2mm) were fabricated from each composite. The specimens were randomly allocated into three groups and three different treatments were performed on each group: storage in water (control group), water-jet flossing using 50 Psi water pressure, and water-jet flossing using 100 Psi water pressure. The water-jet flossing was performed in a standardized manner using a WaterpikÂŽ AquariusÂŽ water flosser. Color and roughness were measured at baseline and at the end of 30 minutes of treatment, which is approximately equivalent to 5 years of simulated water-jet flossing for 1 minute once a day. The data were statistically analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Bonferroni and Tukey?s post-hoc tests. No significant color change was found after 5 simulated years of water-jet flossing, irrespective of composite type and water-flossing pressure setting (p > 0.05). Furthermore, none of composite specimens showed any significant surface roughness changes except for the two composites with spherical filler specimens in the 100 Psi treatment group. These composites exhibited a significant increase in surface roughness compared with the nano-filled composite (p = 0.001 and p = 0.006). However, the differences were clinically acceptable (?0.2 Âľm). In terms of surface roughness and color, water-jet flossing is safe to be used on composite restorations within the settings of this study

The research aimed to know gall myte diseased characteristic on plant Shorea leprosula at pruning yard. of PT. Sari Bumi Kusuma at Serawai district, sintang regency. Research desaign used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and sample plant is placed at random in observing slot and data analysis used Khi square ( Chi Square ) with 3 treatments and 6 replications. First plant normal or untrimmed (A0), second treatment is trimmed (A1) and third treatment is trimmed plan and given by vaseline at sectioned plant which is trimmed (A2). Total plant that is utilized were 18 plants. Result of the research showed that 33% plants S. leprosula was attack by gall myte, disease for all treatment. Result tests of Chi Square pointing out that the treatment given is not significant. Disease gall myte can be seen on branch tip part plant, leaf armpit and autotrof. Initially just as bruise with circumference gall myte + 1cm and long + 0,5cm and green chromatic. Time range of appearance gall myte until ranging break tumor were 93 – 115 days. Key word : gall myte, Shorea leprosula, pruning yar

How Do Drivers Behave at Roundabouts in a Mixed Traffic? A Case Study Using Machine Learning

Driving behavior is considered a unique driving habit of each driver and has a significant impact on road safety. Classifying driving behavior and introducing policies based on the results can reduce the severity of crashes on the road. Roundabouts are particularly interesting because of the interconnected interaction between different road users at the area of roundabouts, which different driving behavior is hypothesized. This study investigates driving behavior at roundabouts in a mixed traffic environment using a data-driven unsupervised machine learning to classify driving behavior at three roundabouts in Germany. We used a dataset of vehicle kinematics to a group of different vehicles and vulnerable road users (VRUs) at roundabouts and classified them into three categories (i.e., conservative, normal, and aggressive). Results showed that most of the drivers proceeding through a roundabout can be mostly classified into two driving styles: conservative and normal because traffic speeds in roundabouts are relatively lower than in other signalized and unsignalized intersections. Results also showed that about 77% of drivers who interacted with pedestrians or cyclists were classified as conservative drivers compared to about 42% of conservative drivers that did not interact or about 51% from all drivers. It seems that drivers tend to behave abnormally as they interact with VRUs at roundabouts, which increases the risk of crashes when an intersection is multimodal. Results of this study could be helpful in improving the safety of roads by allowing policymakers to determine the effective and suitable safety countermeasures. Results will also be beneficial for the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) as the technology is being deployed in a mixed traffic environment
