A Contrastive Study of Temporal-spatial Metaphor between Chinese and Americans
Psychological time orientation includes past, present and future. Spatial-temporal metaphor tends to be used for understanding the abstract temporal concept. Chinese adopt “Time-moving Metaphor”, in which the future is in the back and the past is in the front. In Americans’ “Ego-moving Metaphor”, front is assigned to the future and back to the past. The paper makes a contrastive study of Static Past-oriented Chinese and Dynamic Future-oriented Americans. The difference is closely related to the ideology, cultural tradition and language system
The Impacts of Environmental Cues and Browsing Experience on Impulse Buying on Social Shopping Website
Based on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) paradigm, this study develops a model to theorize how environmental cues on social shopping website affect impulse buying behavior from the perspective of browsing experience. Social shopping websites bring a novel online browsing experience for customers. However, how browsing experience on this platform affect customers impulsively have received insufficient academic attention. The results reveal that the unique factors of social shopping website, namely the quality of user-generated content and social presence are critical for facilitating customers’ browsing experiences. The results also show that both utilitarian browsing and hedonic browsing experience have a positive impact on customers’ urge to buy impulsively. The theoretical and managerial implications are discussed
Planning of Regional Urban Bus Charging Facility:A Case Study of Fengxian, Shanghai
The electrification of public transport is of great significance to alleviating environmental pollution and energy problems. The construction of charging stations for electric buses (EBs) is the key step for the electrification of public transport and receives more and more attention. This paper proposes a new urban electric bus charging station planning algorithm which consists of two parts, park-maintaining (PM) charging station planning and midway supply (MS) charging station planning. Firstly, bus routes are classified based on charging demands. Accordingly, the PM charging station planning model is divided into full slow charging (FSC) model, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) model and Hybrid model. Secondly, the improved grid AP algorithm is applied to plan MS charging stations to enhance the EB operation reliability. Then by multi-terminal charging pile optimization model, the economics of charging facilities construction is enhanced. Finally, via an ordered control charging algorithm, the economic profits of overall planning schemes are enhanced. The bus system in Fengxian, Shanghai is taken as an example to demonstrate the proposed method. Results prove that the proposed method can effectively meet the charging demands of EBs and improve the operating reliability of the EB system. </p
Rotational Doppler effect in left-handed materials
We explain the rotational Doppler effect associated with light beams carrying
with orbital angular momentum in left-handed materials (LHMs). We demonstrate
that the rotational Doppler effect in LHMs is unreversed, which is
significantly different from the linear Doppler effect. The physics underlying
this intriguing effect is the combined contributions of negative phase velocity
and inverse screw of wave-front. In the normal dispersion region, the
rotational Doppler effect induces a upstream energy flow but a downstream
momentum flow. In the anomalous dispersion region, however, the rotational
Doppler effect produces a downstream energy flow but a upstream momentum flow.
We theoretically predict that the rotational Doppler effect can induce a
transfer of angular momentum of the LHM to orbital angular momentum of the
beam.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
The efficacy of dapagliflozin for type 1 diabetes: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
Introduction: The efficacy of dapagliflozin for type 1 diabetes remains
controversial. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to
explore the treatment efficacy of dapagliflozin versus placebo in
patients with type 1 diabetes. Methods: We have searched PubMed,
EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO and Cochrane library databases through
May 2019 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect
of dapagliflozin versus placebo for type 1 diabetes. This meta-analysis
is performed using the random-effect model. Results: Six RCTs are
included in the meta-analysis. Overall, compared with control group for
type 1 diabetes, dapagliflozin treatment shows favorable impact on
glycated hemoglobin HbA1c ( standard mean difference SMD=-3.93; 95%
confidence interval CI =-4.44 to -3.48; P<0.00001), HbA1c reduction
of 650.5% (risk ratio RR=1.98; 95% CI=1.65 to 2.39; P<0.00001),
and fasting plasma glucose FPG (SMD=-0.93; 95% CI=-1.77 to -0.10;
P=0.03). There is no statistical difference of hypoglycemia (RR=1.09;
95% CI=0.66 to 1.79; P=0.75) or adverse events (RR=1.07; 95% CI=0.96 to
1.20; P=0.20) between two groups, but the incidence of ketone-related
events is higher than those in control group (RR=0.28; 95% CI=3.96 to
11.52; P=0.01). Conclusions: Dapagliflozin treatment benefits to reduce
HbA1c and FPG for type 1 diabetes
From Unbalanced to Perfect: Implementation of Low Energy Stream Ciphers
Low energy is an important aspect of hardware implementation. For energy-limited battery-powered devices, low energy stream ciphers can play an important role. In \texttt{IACR ToSC 2021}, Caforio et al. proposed the Perfect Tree energy model for stream cipher that links the structure of combinational logic circuits with state update functions to energy consumption. In addition, a metric given by the model shows a negative correlation with energy consumption, i.e., the higher the balance of the perfect tree, the lower the energy consumption. However, Caforio et al. didn\u27t give a method that eliminate imbalances of the unrolled strand tree for the existing stream ciphers.
In this paper, based on the Perfect Tree energy model, we propose a new redundant design model that improve the balances of the unrolled strand tree for the purpose of reducing energy consumption. In order to obtain the redundant design, we propose a search algorithm for returning the corresponding implementation scheme. For the existing stream ciphers, the proposed model and search method can be used to provide a low-power redundancy design scheme. To verify the effectiveness, we apply our redundant model and search method in the stream ciphers (e.g., \texttt{Trivium} and \texttt{Kreyvium}) and conducted a synthetic test. The results of the energy measurement demonstrate that the proposed model and search method can obtain lower energy consumption
