    Teaching Othering In Education Using “X-MEN” Movie

    Teaching abstract concept in literature like othering to English students can be challenging for it is difficult for students to visualize and relate to their reality. Using popular movie can help them visualize the concept lively. Popular science fiction movie like X-Men is not merely imaginative and full of fantasy; it also has relevant issue on concept of othering in Education. Therefore, instead of using it as means of teaching English skill, it can also be used as mean of helping students easily to understand difficult and abstract concept especially about othering in education. Deconstruction method and theory of movie for ELT is explored to describe othering in X-Men movie and how to the use of X-Men film as the mean to teach othering in education.It is found that X-Men provided critics of othering in education represented by negative views and different treatments to mutantsin field of education. The practices of othering were in form of discourses like seeing mutants as abnormal, a threat to normal people, and diseases needed curing and they were not allowed to go to normal school. To present the othering concept in X-Men, the lesson session were divided into three parts; previewing, viewing and post viewing.Keywords: X-Men, movie for ELT, othering in education

    Abstract This  research covers  the  use  of  sociology  of  literarture  as  the  teaching  literature  approach.  The problems statement comes from the  use  of  intrinsic elements in teaching literature recently. It  uses library research method. Through sociology of literature,  learning will be more interesting because it explores  both  intrinsically  and  extrincically.  This  research  also  gives  the  application  of  teaching literature using sociology of literature approach. Using  sociology of literature, the teacher could teach students both intrinsically and extrinsically of literary works. For extrinsic elements, the teacher could connect  the  literary works to  the  social  condition of  the  author  and the  social  condition reflected in literary works.     This  study  entitled  "Motivation  of  Social  Mobility  in  the  novel  The  Great  Gatsby  by.  F.  Scott Fitzgerald".  The  author  is  interested  in  researching  the  novel  because  there  is  social  mobilit  y  reflected  through  the  character,  Jay  Gatsby.  The  purpose  of  this  study  is  to  reveal  forms  of  social mobility and motivation of character; To achieve the goals, the authors used a combined approach of structural  and  sociological  approach  to  literature.  The  structural  approach  used  to  assess  the intrinsic aspects of the novel, character and background, while the sociological approach to literature using  the  theory  of  social  mobility  to  assess  the  social  mobility  of  the  character‟  motivation  to improve and maintain his social class. In this novel, there is found kind of social mobility that done Jay  Gatsby. It is vertical social  mobility.  Vertical social  mobility  is  divided into  two  forms,  upward and downward. Vertical social mobility, up from the characters increase the level of the economy and increase social class through work and marriage. There are some motivation behind social mobility such as increasing and maintaining social class. Social mobility that occurs in the novel The Great Gatsby become an author's ideas reflect author‟s the social conditions. Through his ideas, the author intends to criticize how the importance of social class and social conditions of 1920s America while experiencing economic growth that brings influence to the people in hedonism and consumerism.     Penelitian ini melaporkan temuan penyelidikan naratif yang bertujuan mengungkapkan persepsi dosen tentang makna dan pentingnya pembelajaran mandiri untuk meningkatkan penguasaan siswa terhadap Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini melibatkan sembilan dosen jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan di Universitas Pekalongan. Para dosen diwawancarai tentang pandangan mereka mengenai pembelajaran mandiri. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa semua responden sepakat tentang pentingnya belajar mandiri.Namun, dalam hal makna belajar mandiri, dosen menyarankan berbagai definisi belajar mandiri, menandakan bahwa pemahaman mereka tentang konsep pembelajaran mandiri tidak serupa yang dapat mengakibatkan praktik yang berbeda dalam memberikan tugas belajar mandiri kepada siswa

    This research aims to analyze the English Education students’ of Universitas Pekalongan problems  in  writing  final  project  in  English.  The  causes  are  viewed  from  students’  and  the lecturers  perspective  as  the  advisor  and  also  what  are  supposed  to  do  to  help  the  student minimize the problems in writing final project. This study used descriptive qualitative method that fully describe the problems as well as solutions in writing final projects. The deep analysis has been done  from the student’s and the lecturer’s perspectives. After conducting a survey by doing some interviews and distributing questionnaires, we found that there are so many factors that affects the studnts’ difficulties in finishing their final projects

    In the era of globalization, foreign and local cultures meet each other. The meeting caused some controversy, regarding the existence of local culture and identity. With globalization, it will certainly affect the position of the Javanese and their identity now. The Javanese now are hybrid Javanese who are able to take and accept and filter cultures outside of Javanese culture. Javanese women face more problems than Javanese men. Javanese women face patriarchal domination and the problem of Javanese women's identity in the era of globalization. The film "Tilik" is a short film that went viral during the Covid-19 pandemic. This film is a representation of hybrid Javanese women who are present in the life of Javanese society today. The purpose of this study is to explain how Javanese women, like hybrid Javanese, are able to overcome all currents of globalization by absorbing, mixing, following, and modifying cultures outside Java without abandoning the noble values of Java. This research method uses descriptive qualitative with critical discourse analysis. The results show that Javanese women are hybrid women formed from various cultures and globalization but still adhere to Javanese cultural values in their daily lives
