Experimental and theoretical study of three interacting, closely-spaced, sharp-edged 60 deg delta wings at low speeds

    Get PDF
Wind tunnel tests were conducted to determine the subsonic longitudinal aerodynamic characteristics of lifting configuration consisting of a 60 deg delta main wing with two smaller 60 deg delta wings (called sub-wings) attached underneath. The test was designed to determine the effects on lift, drag, and pitching moment due to various placement of the subwings in relation to the main wing. Test results indicate the increasing vertical separation between the main wing and the sub-wings produced the most significant results; a 23.1% increase in maximum lift coefficient, a reduction in drag coefficient at high lift coefficients, and an increase in longitudinal stability. Lateral separation of the sub-wings produced no significant changes. Placement of the sub-wings rearward increases the initial lift curve slope and maximum lift coefficient and also increase the longitudinal stability. Results of a computer study using a vortex lattice code supported the experimental conclusions

Muscle pain is an unpleasant emotional and sensory experience related to the risk of actual or potential damage. The result of direct survey at UPT Elderly Social Services Binjai 2018 shows most of the elderly got muscle pain. One of the non-pharmacological therapies to reduce the scale of muscle pain is the Herbal Compress Ball therapy that effect comes from heat conduction that can increase regional blood flowing to the pain area, analgesic effects derived from herbal ingredients and aromatherapy essential oils give a relaxing effect. This study aims to determine the effect of Herbal Compress Ball on the decrease of muscle pain in the elderly. The measuring tool used was the observation sheet with the scale of muscle pain used was Wong-Baker FACES Rating Scale, divided into no pain, mild pain, moderate pain, severe controlled pain, and severe uncontrollable pain. The design of this study was an experimental one-group pre-post test design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with 15 respondents. Data analysis was done by using test of wilcoxon sign rank test, and p value = 0,000 (p <0,05). This study shows that there is Influence of Herbal Compress Ball Against Muscle Pain Reduction in Elderly At UPT Binjai Elderly Social Service. It is expected that the researcher can further complement this research by adding a control group and comparing the effectiveness of Herbal Compress Ball between the intervention group and the control group

    Writing About Race

In The Souls of Black Folk (1903), the great cultural critic W. E. B. Du Bois wrote that "...the problem of the Twentieth Century is the problem of the color line." A century after Du Bois penned those words, most Americans would agree that at the beginning of the twenty-first century, the color line remains one of our most pressing social issues. In this course, we will explore the terrain of race in America by reading the works of writers of color and others concerned with the issue of race, by viewing films that address racial issues, and by writing to explore how the fictions and facts of race condition all our lives, social and civic, private and public. We will consider the complex question of racial identity, test the givens of history by uncovering histories that have been more elusive or more thoroughly suppressed, and explore how writing and reading can both reflect and challenge racial categories, hierarchies, and perceptions. We will read the work of such writers as Suzan-Lori Parks, Toni Morrison, Sandra Cisneros, James Baldwin, Louise Erdrich, Amy Tan, Chang-Rae Lee, Jhumpa Lahiri, and William Faulkner, among others, as we consider the story of race in its peculiarly American dimensions. We will also view films such as Skins, The Long Walk Home, and Crash. Both the reading and the writing of members of the class will be the focus of class discussion and workshops. Students explore race and ethnicity in personal essays, pieces of cultural criticism or analysis, or (with permission of instructor) fiction

These readings will address a great many subjects from the contemporary world to launch and elaborate an argument or position or refined observation. And you yourselves will write a great deal, attending always to the ways your purpose in writing and your intended audience shape what and how you write. The end result of our collaborative work will be a new edition, the seventh, of Culture Shock!, an online magazine of writings on American popular culture, which we will post on the Web for the worldwide reading public to enjoy
