Modelos para evaluar la situación de las bibliotecas escolares y la calidad de sus sitios web

El presente trabajo tiene dos objetivos: desarrollar un modelo exhaustivo de 44 indicadores para evaluar el funcionamiento o la situación de las bibliotecas escolares; y diseñar un modelo específico de 30 características para valorar objetivamente la calidad de los sitios web de las bibliotecas escolares. Además, se lleva a cabo la aplicación práctica de ambos modelos sobre las bibliotecas escolares de la ciudad de Badajoz (en la región de Extremadura, España) en 2012 con la finalidad de comprobar la validez de los modelos y obtener un ranking de las bibliotecas atendiendo a su situación y a la calidad de sus sitios web. Entre los resultados hallados se demuestra que no existe correlación entre el ranking obtenido por las bibliotecas escolares atendiendo a su situación actual y al ranking de calidad de sus sitios web.This paper approaches two objectives: 1) to develop a comprehensive model of 44 indicators to assess the performance or status of school libraries, and 2) to design a specific model of 30 objective features to assess the quality of school-based library web sites. In 2012, researchers documented the practical implementation of both models in school-based libraries in the City of Badajoz located in the region of Extremadura, Spain, in order to ascertain indicator validity and develop a library ranking in accord with operational quality of the respective websites. Diseño de un modelo basado en criterios e indicadores de características para la evaluación de los sitios webs de archivos

Archives cannot be left out the Internet as the Web has become an indispensable tool for the development of the societies and to publicize the services and products that the institutions offer. This openness and diffusion of the archive through the Internet has also brought the need to check what level of quality they present. To do that it is necessary to evaluate them and to attend to some indicators or specific features related to their design, structure or contents. The main target of his work is to design a comprehensive template of specific characteristics for the evaluation of archive websites. The results and conclusions of this work demonstrate that it is possible to design a specific model of features determining which ones are those that best represent the quality of an archive on the Web.Los archivos no pueden quedarse al margen de Internet puesto que la Red se ha convertido en una herramienta imprescindible para el desarrollo de las sociedades y para dar a conocer los servicios y los productos que ofrecen las instituciones. Esta apertura y difusión del archivo a través de la Web contribuye, sin duda, al incremento de su visibilidad. Ahora bien, el aumento de los archivos en Internet también ha traído consigo la necesidad de comprobar qué nivel de calidad presentan. Para ello, es preciso evaluarlos atendiendo a unos indicadores o características específicas relacionadas con su diseño, estructura o contenido. El objetivo principal del presente trabajo es el diseño de una plantilla exhaustiva de características específicas para la evaluación de los sitios web de archivos. Los resultados y las conclusiones del trabajo demuestran que es posible diseñar un modelo específico de características determinando cuáles son las que mejor representan la calidad de un archivo en la Web

European Patent Office (EPO) en Twitter: A content analysis

Twitter accounts can be a relevant (in addition to websites) source of information, particularly for studying the public profile of an institution. In this study, a content analysis of the @epoorg account was performed. The description of the EPO on social networks has never been researched thus far. Using the Tractor software, 19,565 tweets were downloaded and uploaded to the Graphext platform, which uses machine learning to perform topic analysis. Twenty main clusters were identified, which, once organized, engendered the following four main content groups: awards, training, events, and thematic. The thematic contents that the EPO addresses include industry 4.0, cancer, COVID-19, battery innovation, clean energy, climate change. Repercussions of plagiarism on University degrees in the virtual context

This article deals with issues related to university plagiarism, students' knowledge of it, and its academic, economic, legal, social, and ethical repercussions. The project covers various university degree courses of the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences of the University of Extremadura. The objective was to analyse the real knowledge that students have about plagiarism and its repercussions, and to verify the students' situation regarding their knowledge of plagiarism, its typology, and its possible consequences. The methodological approach was based on a previous study about the legal and ethical regulations that affect this issue in general and the university environment in particular. Once the analysis of these documents had been carried out, a 17-item Likert-scale questionnaire was prepared which was responded to by a total of 267 students doing different degree courses of the aforementioned Faculty. Simple descriptive statistics were used to analyse the results. They showed that the group with most knowledge about plagiarism and its repercussions was that of the Master's course students (2.27 out of 3). Of the options proposed as a means of identifying plagiarism, that most frequently identified (83.85%) was reproducing a text in a work without citing the author. In general, the questionnaire results indicated that, although the scores were in the top half of the possible values in all cases, they were far from optimal in all of the degree courses analysed. In conclusion, it can be said that plagiarism has become an essential issue throughout the university world, particularly with the use of technology in the academic setting and its problems regarding intellectual property and copyright. The methodology used, applied to the degree courses of the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences of the UEx, allows the context to be analysed, the problem and its causes to be identified, and the imbalances to be corrected, since in many cases students are unaware that they are plagiarising

The training of professionals in the information sciences from a new perspective: seniors

Los descubrimientos médicos y las mejoras en la calidad de vida han hecho que la esperanza de vida, en la mayoría de los países, aumente considerablemente. La tercera edad es uno de los grupos donde más se ha notado este progreso. La universidad no puede ni debe ser ajena a este profundo cambio social, por lo que los nuevos títulos de las universidades españolas, independientemente de su disciplina, deberían incluir contenidos referentes a este colectivo, con el fin de abrir nuevas vías para las salidas profesionales de sus egresados y, más aún, los relacionados directamente con la sociedad y las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación. Por ello, el objetivo fundamental de este trabajo es adaptar el actual título de grado en Información y Documentación de la Universidad de Extremadura a nuevas oportunidades profesionales, que parecen pasar desapercibidas a pesar de su importancia y constante crecimiento. Con este fin, se diseñan contenidos especializados en la tercera edad para un total de 40 asignaturas. Estos contenidos no suplen a los ya existentes, sino que se añaden a ellos y son extrapolables a otros estudios universitarios en Información y Documentación impartidos más allá de nuestras fronteras geográficas.The medical advances have increased life expectancy in most countries. Seniors are the group that has greatly noticed this progress. The university cannot ignore this profound social change. New degrees of Spanish universities should include content related to this group to open new professional opportunities for graduates, mainly degrees directly related to the information society and information technologies and communication such as the degree of information sciences. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to adapt the current degree of Information Sciences from the University of Extremadura to new professional opportunities. To this end, specialized contents in seniors are designed for a total of 40 subjects. These contents do not replace the existing, but added to them, being extrapolated to other university studies in information and documentation beyond our geographical boundaries.peerReviewe

Las bibliotecas de los centros residenciales de la Tercera Edad en la Capital de Badajoz (Extremadura, España)

El objetivo principal del estudio es el análisis de los servicios de información que se prestan desde los centros sociales (residencias, centros de día y centros de día integrados) dedicados a la tercera edad, limitando el estudio a la ciudad de Badajoz, con el fin de comprobar cómo funcionan dichos centros, y en especial su biblioteca, y realizar propuestas de mejora para su optimización

Multiculturalidad y diversidad funcional en las cartas de servicio y sedes web de las bibliotecas públicas estatales y bibliotecas universitarias de España

The level of involvement that the 53 state public libraries and the 76 university libraries of Spain have with their multicultural and functional diversity groups is analyzed. For that, their service charters and their web sites were checked for explicit mentions of special services and resources for the aforementioned groups. As a main result, we obtain that both multiculturalism and people with functional diversity are under­represented in the service charters of both types of libraries, with percentages of less than 5 % for multiculturalism and 35 % for functional diversity, and although these results are higher in the web sites of both library types, with percentages of less than 29 % for the multicultural community and 45 % for people with functional diversity, we cannot conclude favorably, since we consider it important to promote social awareness about the positive values of multiculturalism and functional diversity from the 100 % of public and university libraries.Se estudia el nivel de implicación que tienen las 53 bibliotecas públicas estatales y las 76 bibliotecas universitarias de España con los colectivos multicultural y con diversidad funcional, utilizando como método el análisis detallado de sus cartas de servicio y de sus sedes web, con el fin de comprobar si se hace mención explícita a servicios y recursos especiales para los colectivos señalados y cómo se realiza dicha mención. Como resultado principal obtenemos que, tanto la multiculturalidad, como las personas con diversidad funcional, se encuentran muy poco representadas en las cartas de servicio de ambos tipos de bibliotecas, con porcentajes inferiores al 5 % en multiculturalidad y al 35 % en diversidad funcional, y si bien estos resultados resultan más elevados en las sedes web de las dos tipologías bibliotecarias, con porcentajes inferiores al 29 % para el colectivo multicultural y al 45 % en las personas con diversidad funcional, no podemos concluir favorablemente, ya que consideramos importante fomentar, desde el 100 % de las bibliotecas públicas y universitarias, la sensibilización social acerca de los valores positivos de ambos colectivos

La presencia de las redes sociales en el entorno sanitario: el caso de los hospitales mejor posicionados del mundo

The current presence of social networks in the best positioned hospitals the world is analyzed, according to the "Web Ranking of Hospitals" developed by the Laboratorio de Cibermetría, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas). First, the results show that the continents with a higher economic and technological level have a greater presence of their hospital websites in the social networks. Second, that Facebook is currently the most important international social network for hospitals from all the continents. Finally, the hospital characteristics (type, ownership or management teams) influence the presence of their websites in the social networksSe analiza la presencia actual de las redes sociales en los hospitales mejor posicionados del mundo (según el “Ranking Web de Hospitales del Mundo” elaborado por el Laboratorio de Cibermetría del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas). Los resultados muestran, por una parte, que los continentes con nivel económico y tecnológico más elevado tienen una mayor presencia de redes sociales en las webs de sus instituciones hospitalarias, por otra, que Facebook es la red social internacional con mayor presencia en los hospitales de todos los continentes y, finalmente, que las características propias de los hospitales (tipología, titularidad o equipos directivos) también influyen en la presencia de redes sociales en sus sitios web
