    A New Gamma-Ray Source in the Vicinity of the Galactic Supernova Remnant G306.3-0.9

    A new extended gamma-ray source, which was named as Source A, in the southwest of Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) G306.3-0.9 was detected with a significance of \sim13σ\sigma at the location of R.A. (J2000) = 13h^{\rm{h}} 17m^{\rm{m}} 52s ⁣ ⁣^{\rm{s}\!\!}.80, Decl. (J2000) = -63^{\circ} 55' 48" ⁣ ⁣"\!\!.00 using about 9 years of Fermi-LAT data. In order to investigate this unidentified gamma-ray source in multi-wavelengths, we performed Swift observations of Source A. In this presentation we summarize the published gamma-ray results, report about the recent ToO Swift observations of Source A, and show our preliminary results of the gamma-ray analysis that we conducted using the new X-ray data.Comment: Published in proceedings of "7th Fermi Symposium 2017", PoS(IFS2017)10

    Discovery of recombining plasma inside the extended gamma-ray supernova remnant HB9

    We present the results from the Suzaku X-ray Imaging Spectrometer observation of the mixed-morphology supernova remnant (SNR) HB9 (G160.9+2.6). We discovered recombining plasma (RP) in the western Suzaku observation region and the spectra here are well described by a model having collisional ionization equilibrium (CIE) and RP components. On the other hand, the X-ray spectra from the eastern Suzaku observation region are best reproduced by the CIE and non-equilibrium ionization model. We discuss possible scenarios to explain the origin of the RP emission based on the observational properties and concluded that the rarefaction scenario is a possible explanation for the existence of RP. In addition, the gamma-ray emission morphology and spectrum within the energy range of 0.2-300 GeV are investigated using \sim10 years of data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). The gamma-ray morphology of HB9 is best described by the spatial template of radio continuum emission. The spectrum is well-fit to a log-parabola function and its detection significance was found to be \sim25σ\sigma. Moreover, a new gamma-ray point source located just outside the south-east region of the SNR's shell was detected with a significance of \sim6σ\sigma. We also investigated the archival HI and CO data and detected an expanding shell structure in the velocity range of 10.5-10.5 and +1.8+1.8 km s1^{-1} that is coinciding with a region of gamma-ray enhancement at the southern rim of the HB9 shell.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA

    Chandra Observations of A Galactic Supernova Remnant Vela Jr.: A New Sample of Thin Filaments Emitting Synchrotron X-Rays

    A galactic supernova remnant (SNR) Vela Jr. (RX J0852.0-4622, G266.6-1.2) shows sharp filamentary structure on the north-western edge of the remnant in the hard X-ray band. The filaments are so smooth and located on the most outer side of the remnant. We measured the averaged scale width of the filaments (wuw_u and wdw_d) with excellent spatial resolution of {\it Chandra}, which are in the order of the size of the point spread function of {\it Chandra} on the upstream side and 49.5 (36.0--88.8) arcsec on the downstream side, respectively. The spectra of the filaments are very hard and have no line-like structure, and were well reproduced with an absorbed power-law model with Γ=\Gamma = 2.67 (2.55--2.77), or a {\tt SRCUT} model with νrolloff\nu_{rolloff} = 4.3 (3.4--5.3)×1016\times 10^{16} Hz under the assumption of p=0.3p=0.3. These results imply that the hard X-rays are synchrotron radiation emitted by accelerated electrons, as mentioned previously. Using a correlation between a function Bνrolloff/wd2{\cal B} \equiv \nu_{rolloff}/w_d^2 and the SNR age, we estimated the distance and the age of Vela Jr.: the estimated distance and age are 0.33 (0.26--0.50) kpc and 660 (420--1400) years, respectively. These results are consistent with previous reports, implying that B{\cal B}--age relation may be a useful tool to estimate the distance and the age of synchrotron X-ray emitting SNRs.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, ApJ, in pres

    Yoga-plus exercise mix promotes cognitive, affective, and physical functions in elderly people

    Objectives: Increased attention is being paid to Asian medicine in balanced total health care. We investigated the effects of mixed exercise including yoga ('Yoga-plus') among elderly individuals. Methods: A total of 385 subjects (72 males and 313 females, 75.5 ± 8.7 years old) participated in a 12-month (M) exercise program at a health and welfare center, a day service center, and a nursing home. Cognitive, affective, and physical functions, and activities of daily living (ADL), were compared at baseline (0M), 6M and 12M of exercise intervention. Results: Mean scores on the frontal assessment battery, clock drawing test, cube copying test, letter fluency, and category fluency significantly improved after the Yoga-plus intervention, while mini-mental state examination, Hasegawa dementia score-revised, and trail-making test performance were relatively stable. Affective scores on the geriatric depression scale (GDS), apathy scale (AS) and Abe's behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia were not significantly affected by exercise therapy, but subgroups with higher baseline GDS (GDS ≥ 5) and AS (AS ≥ 16) scores showed a significant improvement after intervention. One-leg standing time and 3-m timed up and go test performance significantly improved after 12M intervention. Discussion: Yoga-plus improved cognitive, affective, ADL, and physical functions in a local elderly population, particularly among below-baseline individuals, indicating the benefits of dementia prevention among elderly individuals
